Review
The content is more expansive than keywords alone; also included are excellent chapters on writing Google ads, following the company's editorial guidelines, split testing, conversion tracking, bidding strategies, and more. The manual also goes beyond Google AdWords to cover landing pages, Google's Display Network, advertising on YouTube, Google Shopping Campaigns, Google Analytics, and remarketing (aka behavioral retargeting), which the authors call "the single most profitable online advertising strategy."
The chapters on marketing are particularly astute. For example, an ode to the 80/20 rule (with material extracted and condensed from Marshall's book on the subject) takes the popular formula and demonstrates how it can extend to online marketing and "just about everything you can measure in a business."
An exemplary Google AdWords manual that could easily prevent costly mistakes and help boost profits.

Perry Marshall is a well known and highly respected expert on Google Adwords. So when he provides information, you should listen.
This book is extremely well written and easy to understand. It is filled with specific examples and gives you step by step instructions on how to implement the advice being given.
As an added bonus, there are selections from Scientific Advertising by Claude Hopkins (written in 1923 and considered a real classic on advertising) . If you did nothing other than read and implement the "Uncle Claude Sez" inserts at the end of each chapter, you would more than pay for the cost of this book.
There are plenty of tools and sources that will help you in making your online (or offline business for that matter)more profitable.
Follow the steps given in this book and you will greatly increase your internet traffic. There is some great solid lessons about the value of testing, testing and then testing some more. Perry and Bryan make it easy to follow and implement. However they do make the observation that most people are rather lazy and will not make the effort to really do the work necessary. They make the point that internet marketing is a real business and if you treat it like a business, it can be highly profitable. However, treat it casually and it will never fulfill your dreams.
Well worth reading, even if you never plan to run an internet business. There a couple of groups that probably hope you don't read it, Google - cause you will slash the cost of your Google Ads and your competitors - cause after reading you will be a much sharper competitor.
Not an adwords book alone by the undisputed King of the Realm, this is a song, from cover-to-cover on scientific advertising, total quality management, incessant incremental improvement (sometimes with pretty big 'increments')and CRM. Unlike those former and current programs, this is written in a very flowing style, full of real-life examples, and no fluff.
I always highlight books on 1st read- I've got to say that my poor yellow highlighter is crying as I close the book- there's a whole lot of yellow in there, unlike most 'marketing' books I own. I've bought 'Guru' ebooks for 100 times as much that didn't have one tenth the value of this one book.Perry and Todd could have easily marketed it that way, but chose not to, to our great benefit. And on top of that, purchasers get an online supplement worth $85! It's apparent that these guys care about us (well, those other guys 'care' too- enough to empty our pockets as often and as completely as possible).
This is MUST reading for any little scrappy entrepreneur that wants to eat some of the big boys' lunch without going bankrupt (and most won't even know what hit them).
And think of how much fun a huge and growing ROI will be- when it's finally yours.
However, I got to know Bryan Todd, Perry and so many other things about Adwords that I had no idea.
Perry really did deliver in this one.
After reading the entire book in just 2 days (50% each way on the airplane) I almost plunked down whatever fees I would to get access to my account just to tinker with some of the suggestions.
If you are wondering if the two books are different they are without a doubt.
I think they compliment each other but this printed copy really has some interesting insights the PDF book does not.
The Definitive Guide really digs into setting up campaings and such.
The Ultimate Guide really brings some light to issues not addressed.
Overall it was a fantastic read and a MUST have for anybody who's into Adwords or is even considering that aspect of marketing and traffic.
You will save yourself the cost of the book in just one day by using the techniques contained in here and your CTR's will soar!

Why choose this book as opposed to all the many alternative volumes on the same subject (many of which I have also read)? Well, it's concise, it's extensive, it puts all the pieces together, but most of all Perry Marshall writes with an enthusiasm which gets to you. This is no textbook, it's an inspiration.
One small BUT, and the reason I give this edition just four stars: It's time for a thorough update. Most of the past editions have added new sections and modified some of the text, but now a lot of that original text is getting a bit old. The original examples of ads and tests haven't changed, but Google's ad format has. Indeed, that original format was pretty much obsolete when this edition went to press. And there haven't been eleven ad positions on the Google search page since a long time (p.179), etc.
Finally, I have one point of discussion amongst AdWords folks. I no longer A/B test my ads as described here. Each time your ad is shown, it's shown under different circumstances. You don't know what those circumstances are, but Google does and it may be that one ad performs better than another only depending on those circumstances. So I create 5 ads, let Google's algorithm choose the top ones, and then I weed out and replace the ones which don't get shown.
But others will disagree! Anyway. Buy this book and I hope you find it as inspiring as I still do.
