i ordered 2 of these, i had to run fine sandpaper inside both of these to knock the burs off. one of the plastic pieces on the handle came split which is why one probably works better than the other. the split one sticks shut

Use gloves and get 2 pairs, then chain mail can be easy maneuvered!

First of all they're fine. They're the right shape for chainmail and they're a bargain.

But I have a nit.

I don't like the size of the jaws for my 16 gauge rings. They're just slightly too big. I've put together about 1000 rings now over the past week, and just now I've tried out some different pliers from Ring Lord. The Ring Lord super cheap pliers have shorter and narrower jaws. With the smaller jaws, it's easer to get hard-to-reach rings in my growing coif.

Also I was having hand problems (soreness to a point of suggesting minor injury) from using these pliers, but that might be my fault. I was using the pliers at a 135 degree angle to close rings. These pliers should be used at a 180 degree angle (so the pliers are facing each other directly) to close rings, due to the square jaws. Just line up the jaws so you don't hurt your hands.

My recommendation is to actually buy these, try them out for a while, and figure out what you do and don't like about them. They're cheap, you're already on Amazon, and they're easy to order. You can use the information you learn to buy your next pair of pliers. I like Ring Lord (google it) for beginner pliers that are more optimal for me.

TL;DR:
Generally fine, jaws are maybe a bit too big, and use these pliers facing nose-to-nose. I prefer Ring Lord.

These are just okay. My main issue is that the inside is very rough and scratches softer rings very easily. They're kind of cheaply made and very small. They aren't terrible but they definitely aren't my first choice.

These pliers are a great size with wide jaws for flattening but do need to be cleaned up with sandpaper if used for jewelry making. On mine the inside had a burr around the edge of each jaw and the inside of the jaws had a very rough finish which can marr your metal. I took some 400 grit sandpaper wrapped around a wooden sanding stick to sand one side, then the other. Then changed to 600 grit. It's not a perfect mirror shine but the burrs are gone and so is the roughness. Note: keep the pliers open and do one jaw at a time, making sure to keep plier jaw flat against the stick and sandpaper while sanding. Other than that flaw, which can be corrected, they are strong and wide.

I almost didn't get these after reading some of the reviews, but they arrived yesterday and so far I've been very happy with them. No, they're not the same quality as other pliers out there but they also cost one heck of a lot less. If you're going to be using them 8 hours a day 5-7 days a week they might not be the best choice, but for the hobbyist and especially those just starting out, they are perfect.
