1. It transfers a whole lot of orange color on your hands and work surface, so be careful not to touch anything you don't want to; the color washes off of hands easily, though.
2. It does a good job at air-drying but definitely needs a couple days for bigger/thicker objects.
3. If you make two separate pieces (like the body of an animal and then the head) and want to them to dry stuck together, they won't be fused to each other well and will probably break--make sure to connect things with a toothpick while the clay is wet or glue when the clay is dry.
4. If you want to paint this clay when it's dry, acrylic paint is a good choice for fully covering the terra cotta color.
Be aware that pretty much and terra cotta clay will stain! It left color on my pottery wheel and work surface, but I expected that having worked with this kind of clay before. Do not buy this if you are concerned with your kids making a mess, but if instead you want them to enjoy the pottery making process.
I will buy this for home use again, and for my elementary art room!
I used this to make the noses on my snowmen and I have used it to make "bell caps" in the jewelry I have made. It worked wonderfully for that as it covered all the messy cord ends and I was able to form it to fit.
For the noses, I formed the clay around a tiny eye screw. For the "bell caps", I wrapped a wire around the cord ends firs and then formed the clay around the wire sticking out and over the cord ends. When dry both were painted.
