It tends to separate over time, so make sure to mash it up in the tube before applying it. It should come out like a white paste, not watery like a liquid. A little goes a long way, I will continue to buy this in the future.
That is not to say that oil is bad. Oil does have an advantage when it comes to colder temperatures. Oil is easier to use and apply "in the field" without stripping a weapon down and can be applied with a dropper, syringe, or a small spray bottle. As the oils slowly run out of the weapon during use, they can take carbon and other fouling with them and deposit it somewhere else besides just holding it in suspension in the action parts. Oil for use in firearms is also frequently enhanced with additives such as a cleaning solution, a carbon solvent, and/or a longer-term, more robust protectorant (ala CLP or Break Free). You can also combine the uses of oil and grease in the same firearm without any major effects as the use of one definitely does not preclude the use of the other. Some folks like the thought of "grease for moving parts that carry a load, oil for rotating and small parts".
No weapon has EVER been designed around a lubricant. You should always properly lubricate your firearms. Just don't feel you must always use oil or your firearm will disintegrate. Just know what you are going to use, know its advantages, disadvantages, and limits, and use it as it is intended, and either oil or grease will work fine.
This grease works great, is easy to apply, and will last a long time.
For hunting, odor control is of the utmost importance, so there's no way I'll be able to use this on my deer rifle.
It seems to work really well, it's just a shame it smells so bad.
Update: 6/12/15
After using this grease for a couple of months, I felt the need to add something to my review. Yes the grease has a strong odor to it, but what I've found out is that the odor fades over time. After a couple of days the odor is barely noticeable, and maybe a week later it is gone all together. I don't shoot my guns every day, so for me this is not a problem. If someone shoots and cleans every day, the odor will always be there. But for me, after a few days, the odor is gone.
Changing my rating from 3 stars to 4. An outstanding quality grease, just the initial odor makes it lose a star.
