Ryker Jones and his 2 brothers Heath and Denver may not have been born to the same parents, but they learned early in life that the strongest family bonds are not necessarily formed by blood relations. They found each other in the nightmare masquerading as a boys home when they were still pre-teens, and Ryker’s protective streak prompted him to take both boys under his wing to help them stand up to the bullies. Unfortunately those bullies weren’t just boys their own age; the adults who should have been protecting them were more intent on harming them or studying them. A familiar face with a different name from the Sins Brothers series helped form the early years of Ryker, Heath and Denver through physical and mental tests, but when they managed to escape they didn’t look back.
Now almost 20 years later, all 3 men are searching for answers from their past even as they are still on the run from certain aspects of it. Each of them has certain talents and enhanced senses that shouldn’t be possible, but they have accepted their anomalies as part of their lives and put them to good use as private investigators finding those who are lost when everyone else has failed. Their current case has them tracking a serial killer in parallel to the FBI, and they are drawing a bit of unwanted attention but they are willing to take the risk if it means they can put a stop to the killings.
One fringe benefit to their location while working the case: a paralegal named Zara Remington who has rocked Ryker’s world. They were supposed to be a casual fling, but they definitely burn hot when they are together and the lines between casual and something more have become blurred much to the dismay of everyone involved. Zara’s childhood was filled with her flighty and irresponsible mother’s never ending string of lackluster unreliable boyfriends, and she is determined to find someone permanent when the time is right to settle down. She never planned on Ryker Jones working his way under his skin with his bad boy attitude, protective and dominant streaks, and a disconcerting habit of wandering in and out of her life without notice. When he decides it is time to go beyond casual and moves himself into her town and her life, she immediately balks at his decision- mostly because it is HIS decision and she has no desire to be anything other than independent. Fortunately he sees through her posturing and sticks around anyway which turns out to be a very good thing.
Suddenly danger is all around them and it is coming from multiple sources. Zara is walking a dangerous line in her career. Her office is representing a powerful town figure in his divorce, but she has been quietly helping her best friend Julie who just so happens to be the man’s wife. Her reputation and future will be destroyed if her duplicity is revealed but she can’t just stand by and watch the only friend she has be railroaded by the wife beating politician. When Zara gets a little too close, a few bruises and Ryker’s inquisitive nature become the least of her problems as she is framed for murder.
Ryker is far from problem- free himself. His brothers don’t understand his feelings for Zara and are protesting his decision to get even closer to her than he has been. The serial killer case is heating up and Heath is taking it personally which adds to all their stress, and Denver is feeling resentful of Ryker’s new relationship after walking away from one of his own not so long ago in order to protect the lady from their past. Speaking of their past- it is about to come knocking on their door in a very unexpected way! A boy named Greg hacks their security and blackmails them into helping him find the woman who made his childhood a living hell: a face and scenario all 3 men are all too familiar with. Their search sets of a chain of events none of them expected and the exciting race to the finish is on!
Deadly Silence is filled with suspense and intrigue but is offset with fun, sexy times, plenty of steam, family, love and occasionally laughter. Zara fits the mold of strong and independent heroine that I usually enjoy so much, but I have to admit there were a few times that she started to sound like a broken record and I just wanted to give her a very un-subtle nudge to knock her out of the groove and onto a different track. Greg’s addition to the story was heartwarming and heartbreaking all at the same time as glimpses of the carefree boy he should have been occasionally broke through the facade of hardened soldier and killer that he was forced into from the moment he was old enough to walk. Ryker’s protective alpha streak with his occasional glimpses of vulnerability certainly worked for me, and before long, his family grows in a way he and his brothers never expected. I absolutely adored the familiar faces that appear on his doorstep!
I am loving this new series already, and the story of the Jones brothers is far from over. I cannot wait to see what comes next in Lethal Lies, but in the meantime, grab yourself a copy of Deadly Silence and settle in to enjoy the wild ride!
I should’ve loved this, but I just liked it; I just didn’t connect with any of the characters. Things also move a bit too slowly; I could’ve done without the chapters with the baddie’s pov. I couldn’t stand the baddies in this story; so very disgusting. Do like the overall premise though and there’s good spice. Ryker and Zara have had a no strings relationship going on for awhile, but really, there are strings. Ryker has tons of secrets about his past, so he keeps people from getting too close for fear of them being in danger. When Zara finds herself in danger, Ryker will do everything he can to protect her. There’s danger coming from multiple sources, so these two have their work cut out for them! I was interested in the serial killer storyline, but that isn’t taken on in this book; it’s in the next one. I was a bit disappointed in that, but there is still an interesting scenario with another killer on the loose. Also, I liked how that story ended. As for the characters, Zara has a good heart, but unfortunately, it makes her do idiotic things. Ryker is a gruff secretive guy; he has a wild story of a life. He was a butt at times, but I love his protective nature. This is a spin-off of one of Zanetti’s other series, so you may already know what is going on with these brothers, but this story does work on its own if you don’t. Some things are solved in this book, but there is a overarching storyline that hasn’t been solved yet. I am interested in reading how Ryker’s brother’s stories turn out, and to read about the big bad being taken out. Plus, I really enjoy Zanetti’s writing style.
There are three boys who ended up in a home for homeless boys run by an evil sheriff. Ryker, Heath, and Denver come together in mutual defense against the bullies and the people running the home. They are severely beaten frequently and tested by the mysterious Dr. Daniels.
In the present day Ryker has a casual relationship with Zara. When he comes into town she makes dinner and then they sleep together. This starts to change when he blows into town and sees a bruise on her cheekbone. It's clear someone has hit her and that makes Ryker nuts. Zara has no intention of telling him what's going on since that's not what their relationship is. I really enjoyed how clear she was on the subject and the fact that she meant it and was not saying it for reasons of plot. Ryker keeps Zara at more than arm's length away as he always has so she tells him "My everyday life doesn't include you. You're a fantasy who shows up periodically for fun, and then you're gone. Stop acting like you're more." Soon she's trying to break up with him as she doesn't want to be in a casual relationship any more. Things have changed for Ryker, though, and he pursues Zara.
Ryker and his blood brothers own a detective agency. The three men are investigating a serial killer, which is probably a plot line that will continue until the last book. A 12 year old named Greg walks into their office wanting them to find Dr. Isobel Madison, the evil doctor from the Sin Brothers books. Ryker and his brothers know her as Dr. Daniels. Greg is from the same compound where the Sin brothers were held prisoner.
There are some other subplots. Zara is a paralegal working on a divorce case that goes messy. She is helping a friend hide from her soon to be ex-husband. Ryker and his brothers are being pursued by the evil sheriff because they accidentally killed his brother.
This is a very good book. There's lots of action, interesting plot lines, the heroine is very sensible, and the hero doesn't steamroll over her.

The first book in this new romantic suspense series...a spin-off of the Sin Brothers series....WOW. So many twists and turns, I love this Author.
Ryker Jones is one of the brothers that started The Lost Bastards Investigative Agency....The past they can't outrun is resurfacing, and threatening their lives.
Zara Remington is a Paralegal. The law firm she works for had hired Ryker for a case...she and Ryker have had a thing going since then...he shows up every so often for Dinner and sex, then he is gone again.
Zara is starting to make risky moves at work by day and causing trouble with her job, causing her safety to be compromised....Ryker is the only one that she can trust. Can he save her before his past catches up with him and destroys them both?..
Zara has been casually seeing Ryker for months but knows there will never be anything serious between them. That doesn't stop her turning to him for help when one of her closest friends goes missing though and when it looks like Zara may be in danger too Ryker realises that he would do anything to keep her safe. The timing couldn't be worse considering Ryker's past, and his enemies, are about to catch up with him, but Zara needs his help and he could never walk away from her.
Rebecca Zanetti always manages to write books that are full of action and danger but also great characters, strong family bonds and scorching hot romances. Zara and Ryker's relationship is a little different because they're already seeing each other before the story starts but because they've both been trying to keep things casual we still get to see their relationship blossom throughout the book. Ryker was a very overprotective alpha male but Zara holds her ground and she's willing to fight for what she needs and not let him walk all over her which was good. He's actually more willing to pursue a relationship than she is because she has a fear of him walking away and breaking her heart and he could actually be a really sweet guy even though he was also quite demanding and knew exactly what he wanted.
As I've come to expect from this author one of my favourite things about this book was the bond between Ryker, Heath and Denver. The boys aren't related by blood but instead they chose each other and they are very close. They all had awful childhoods that were made even worse in the orphanage where they met and surviving that kind of hell together left them with an unbreakable bond. They've always known that someone from their past is hunting them so they've had to work hard to stay under the radar but when they take on a new client they start to realise that perhaps it's time to confront their past so they can finally move on with their lives. There was a lot to love about their story and I really enjoyed seeing characters from the Sin Brothers books put in an appearance too, I hope we see more cameos from them throughout the series.
I loved all three brothers so much that I've already started reading Heath's book, Lethal Lies, and I expect to be devouring Denver's story, Twisted Truths, immediately afterwards. Sometimes there are huge advantages of not starting a new series until all the books have been published and I intend to make the most of them!
