Freed (Bound Duet Book 2) Kindle Edition
I moved on.
I couldn't hold on to what was deteriorating, devastating, destroying,
Me.
Us.
Nobody could.
And now, I have real love.
The kind that means something,
Rocking in chairs and growing old.
But, choosing between the past and future is too painful.
Too raw.
Too final.
I was bound to Gray, but he lost me,
Let me slip through his fingers.
That was then.
This is now.
I'm freed.

About the author

USA Today Bestselling author, Stephie Walls is a lover of words—the more poetic the better. She lives on the outskirts of Greenville, South Carolina in her own veritable zoo with two dogs, three cats, and Magoo (in no preferential order). She would thrive on coffee, books, and Charlie Hunnam if it were possible, but since it’s not, add in some Chinese food or sushi and she’s one happy girl.

BOUND told the story of the turbulent relationship of Annie Teasman and Gray Dearsley. She had been hopelessly in love with him, and would do anything to keep him by her side. To lose him was like losing her soul. But just when she needed him the most, he kicked her to the curb and left her there. This might be the final good-bye to their unhealthy relationship. She still loved Gray and probably always would be bound to him, but if she wanted to survive she must move on.
When she had reached her lowest point, then enters “perfect” Brett Ryann. He is everything that Gray had not been. In my opinion his only fault was that he was just “too” perfect. He was a giver, and not a taker. He accepted her many flaws and healed her wounds. She learned from him what healthy love looks like, and that she may actually deserve it. If his goal was her happiness, then she would make his happiness her goal as well. Complete unselfish love. Like I said, “Too Perfect!”
A piece of Annie's Past would forever remain with Gray, but he no longer held her entire heart. Annie and Gray's bound connection was strong, but time had made a new connection between Annie and Brett. She didn't want to be with Gray, but he still had some weird power over her, and she still wanted him to be happy. He was a master manipulator, and her memories had morphed into something much less painful. Brett had good reasons for not wanting Annie to be “friends” with Gray. If she wanted to go to lunch with Gray he trusted her and was okay with it (told you he is too perfect). But he was smart enough not to trust Gray.
There is a lot of heartache in the 2nd book. Things (especially one thing) that I didn't really care for that ruined the book for me, but some like that over the top angst stuff. If you enjoyed Bound then you will want to continue and read Freed.

This was book 2 of this series. I have to say I loved this one, and the titles for both books were spot on.
The first book was about Annie and her relationship with Gray. She was very much bound by her past as well as her unhealthy relationship with Gray, I wanted to cheer for him, I loved him in the first few chapters, but as the story progressed in book 1 and the in book 2 I felt sorry for him. His obsession drove him to hurt her more and more and ruining his own life in the process.
This second book was about Annie's relationship with Brett. Stephie started this book just like she did book 1 by using a scene that'll happen later in the book and I thought this was very clever. You kind of know where the story is going and I found myself just waiting for the scene to appear, wondering when it would happen. Brett was my hero throughout the book. He has such an unbelievably selfless love for her, being everything she needed him to be. And ultimately helps free her from the torment of her past. I don't want to give any spoilers so I'm just gonna say that I cried my heart out near the end, if you've read it you know what I mean, if you haven't then what are you waiting for.
Well done Stephie, I didn't read the original draft of the book, but I fell in love with this one !

4.5 stars!!!
“I would have to face the reality that I couldn’t change the last twenty-four hours, there would be no mulligan.”
This duet has been an emotional roller coaster of epic proportions and while Freed was the band aid I desperately needed after Bound, Stephie Walls still does her upmost best to put your heart through the emotional blender before restoring your faith.
Stephie Walls starts this book with one killer prologue and this author certainly knows how to lure you in hook, line and sinker from the very beginning. While I am not normally a huge fan of time jumps, in this case they were used to perfection, delivering the suspense and angst that motors this book along as well as you the reader. I could not read this book quick enough as I was desperate for information from the get go.
For me though, this book was all about Annie and how much she grew, especially emotionally. As I said in my review of Bound, Annie was like a doormat, especially when it came to Gray. In Freed, you see her learn that love is a two-way street, love can be something worth cherishing and love doesn’t have to be toxic. Most importantly though, Annie learned to love herself and that was the biggest hurdle for her, her strive for perfection is still prevalent but she learns to cope with it, rather than use substances to hide the pain and insecurities that constantly plague her.
“His forehead tipped to mine, connecting with me intimately. He enabled me to feel him, see his soul through his eyes, and sense the life his breath provided.”
The love between Annie and her beau was beautiful to see and yes, I am being deliberately vague. So much happens in this book that to even mention any man’s name would be a spoiler, so my lips are sealed. It is this relationship though that shows Annie what she should have had from the beginning, love, commitment, honesty and a partner who could always be relied on, no matter the circumstances.
“You accepted my flaws, healed my wounds, and gave me time to learn to fly. You taught me what healthy love looks like and more importantly that I deserved it. I can’t tell you how much I love you. The words just don’t say enough.”
But who eventually gets to claim her heart? Can one pull his head out of his arse or will another jump in and take his place? The trouble is, Stephie Walls makes you love both of them despite their shortfalls. But like I said in my review of Bound, heart vs head, heart vs head, heart vs head.
This was a fantastic conclusion to this duet. I am still in shock at the entirety of this duet, this book has had my head running a mile a minute and my heart all over the place but this is testament to the emotional connection that I have had to these characters from the very beginning. Yes, love can be hard, love can hurt but also love is one the most amazing emotions to feel and be reciprocated. Love is powerful in its beauty and its destruction, but it is up to you to make sure you are happy. You are the only person that can make that choice, you have the power to change everything, your destiny is in your own hands…no-one elses.
