    My young daughter has been asking for a jewelry box for quite some time and requested one from Santa for Christmas.     This was worth every dollar if you know what you are getting. It is not made out of solid wood. It appears to be a high density paper composite (highly compressed cardboard?). Nonetheless, it is well made. The box is squarely fitted and all joints are solid. No gaps. The printing is clear and does not appear that it will peel off. All drawers slide smoothly; however, there are no latches for them. The only latch is on the top lid. The top compartment is lined with a velvet-like material while the drawers are smooth. The music and ballerina work with every opening of the lid and there is a wind-up key on the back of the box. The entire box is sturdy for normal everyday use. I can imagine that it would crush with excessive pressure though. It also would not likely withstand getting soaked with water.

    I purchased this for my six year old daughter for Christmas. I looked around a lot before making this my choice. I wanted a wooden jewelry box with more than one compartment, with music and a ballerina. This one is lovely to look at but I have to say, the drawers are a bit odd. The main compartment, the one hinged on top is fine, typical for a jewelry box. The drawer at the bottom is fine too but it seems odd that the entire front of the box has no compartments until you reach the bottom. I supposed it is to allow for a seamless picture of the ballerinas on the face but it makes for an awkward...really boxy looking....box. The little drawers on the side and back are long, narrow and deep. You have to really dig in with your finger to retrieve the items stored in there and my daughter has already gotten frustrated and turned the box upside down to get the items out. It has led to some tangled chains. There does not appear to be an artistic thought to the placement of the drawers. They seem to be just stuck in to the sides almost like pins in a voodoo doll. All closed up the box is very pretty but the only compartment my daughter really likes to use is the top one. If I had had the chance to handle this and really look at it in a store, I probably would not have bought it. The illustrations are lovely but the design is rather odd and not practical.

    Received new, wouldnt say mint condition as it seems it may have been sitting on a shelf for a while. Tape and clear plastic cover has come undone a little perhaps due to handling and shipping. Does not appear to be a return. Will see when it has been opened if there is any damage as it is a gift. Very pretty colours and has a little weight to it.

    My daughter is not so into ballerinas, but she loved this jewellery box. She was very happy because it's arrival date was Dec. 31st, but it arrived the 28th instead (we ordered it boxing day). One review said the packaging was torn, and another said the ballerina broke within 2 weeks, but ours came in perfectly good shape. She would have given it a five-star rating. However, the morning after it's arrival, two of her necklaces (she kept them up top with the spinning ballerina,) got caught and tangled into the ballerina, WHILE IT WAS SPINNING, and she got very mad. Luckily she managed to get them free by herself, but it was very frustrating. My daughter (as well as myself) are satisfied with it's having five drawers (okay, four, but five storage spaces.) My daughter says it was smaller than she expected, but we are thrilled that we bought it. We checked other ones, too, but this one was both the first one we checked as well as the winner jewellery box for us. She actually helped pay for it with her Birthday money from her cousins, aunt, and uncle. She really enjoys it. Maybe we should have actually rated it with five stars. We will change that now.
