Actually, the whole reason for buying this light is cows. Living on a farm affords opportunities not available to unsuspecting "city folk, and wandering cows is one of them. The proverb says that curiosity will kill a cat, but a cat's curiosity has nothing on the nosiness of a cow, and if one cow in the herd thinks she sees something worth exploring, they ALL go with her, to check it out....and they love to explore the great unknown after dark, which means, basically, that a cow will walk straight through an electrified fence in the dark, simply because she thought there might be something there.
When this happens, somebody (me) has to go out, in the dark (and it can be exceptionally dark in the middle of a cow pasture in the middle of the night), to round the girls up and convince them to come back into their fenced in pasture.
This light is absolutely awesome! It puts out enough light to convince even the most skeptical cow that it is daytime in the middle of the field, and that it would be a really good idea to go to the "daytime"....making the job of rounding up errant cows and getting them back home safe and sound. This light also puts out enough light to make it easier to find the break in the fence and mend it without having to walk the entire paerimeter, hunting for a downed wire.
The bottom line is this, This light was shipped promptly, was well packaged, and I was thrilled to discover that it was also nearly completely charged when it arrived, so it didn't take a full 24 hours to charge it before I could use it....which was a good thing, because the girls tried to make a break for it the evening that my Cyclops C18 Mil Thor X arrived.
You may never need to chase cows or track broken fence lines in the middle of the night, but if you want a rechargeable light that will provide enough light to help you to work on your car after it breaks down along the side of the road, finish that outside patio project, or light up the back yard for a late night party, this is the light you need.
For us, It worked for approx 16 months. Then it would not recharge nor deliver any functional light. Further, it's extremely difficult to try to open it to replace the battery or analyze the inside components.
So, Compared to several previous GIANT sized flashlights we have purchased in the past (for our late night lake boating usages), this product is a true dud. Previous lights would last roughly 3-5 years and the batteries were comparatively easy to reorder and replace.
This product's hard casing (outside) looks are deceiving. But Please Don't waste your money. While the large light- Looks good, and at first, works well, it doesn't have any longevity. Hence, it is definitely poor quality.
Size: the front face lens is 11 inches in diameter, the length is 15 inches from lens to back of battery compartment.
weight: 7.4 lbs.
The term Colossus is appropriate this is a HUGE spotlight.
Charging: The "Manual" (really equivalent to an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper printed on both sides pamphlet) states:
1) Do not overcharge the battery, doing so will damage the battery.
2) Fully charging the battery takes "around" 15 hours whether by AC or car DC.
3) The spotlight indicates when it is fully charged by the red LED going from steady to blinking (initially there is a "soft" blinking, then a stronger, more definite blinking).
4) Charge after each use and every 3 months whether used or not.
5) The batteries have a maximum of 500 charge-discharge cycles.
Note) The Cyclops net site claims the full charge time is 20 hours, probably guaranteeing you will damage the battery in short order.
...I charge the light 3-4 hours at a time, waiting at least about 4 hours between charges to let the battery cool down and normalize until I get a blinking LED (and the total charge time is less than or equal to 15 hours).
I had a Cyclops Thor-X Scout 6.5 million CP which due to my infrequent and overcharging of the battery failed to hold a charge.
Unfortunately,It had no way of opening it up to change the battery; however it was an ideal size and weight and seemed to put out as much light as the Colossus's "18 Million cp".
The Colossus is designed to allow replacing the bulb and batteries, the Scout was designed to not be able to do this and had no blinking LED to indicate being fully charged.
