knife. That's the only complaint that I have about it.
I was using this with my Ryobi electric trimmer. It's the most powerful electric trimmer Ryobi makes and it didn't have any trouble running the heavy head. It would have been better if the electric one had speed control. All the electric ones I've used have no speed control, it's all or nothing. So I just bought a new Ryobi 25cc & 18" cut. Going to see how this head does with a gas powered one with speed control. I will update this later after I see how this cutter head does on a gas trimmer.
Update 6-26-16
This thing is still one monster trimming head. This thing eats through darn near anything and the blades last so long that you will miss the break time you used to have with the old string trimmers. I strongly recommend that you have a good face shield that comes down far enough to protect your throat. And ALWAYS use it when using this cutting head. You should always have good leather work boots, preferably with steel toes on them. DO NOT USE THIS WITH TENNIS SHOES, BASKETBALL SHOES, or any other shoes like them. It just takes one slip when using this and it can cut your toes off. Wearing some sort of shin guards will save you from a lot of small cuts from being hit with the rocks this thing can throw at you too.
This cutting head is one mean tool! It does it's job very well and can be a very dangerous tool. So use it carefully and respect what it can do to your legs and feet. The blades on it last a very long time and can be turned over to use both sides. It took almost a full day of use to almost wear out one set of blades.
I'm a retired machinist with over 25 years of making parts for all sorts of different things. I like a tool that is well made and does the job it was made for. This weed cutting head is one of those tools. It has been well made and is well designed. About the only thing that I can think of to make it better is to make the head a little bigger around and the blades about 1" to 1.5" longer to give it a wider cutting path. Other than that, I love this cutting head! Get one and have some fun!
It can get kind of scary if you hit a rock or a metal fence with it though. Throws some crazy sparks lol. I may look for one with plastic blades for the edgework around the fence.
If you take this out of the box and just use it as is, it will likely fail within 30 minutes by melting the plastic head. Adding a washer between threaded shaft and head might give you an hour and then it will still melt and pull through.
The way to do it is to modify the adaptor used to have a threaded shaft extending through bottom by welding or job weld. So in order:
String trimmer threaded shaft
Washer
Top piece with blades
Hex adaptor
(Welded)
Secound hex adaptor or threaded shaft
Bottom plastic piece to hold blades
Washer(s)
Nut.
Then eventually the blades will wear through the plastic sheaths they come in and the metal on metal will wear out the pins than hold the blade in place. The pins can not be easily replaced so you must replace the blades when the plastic comes loose.
I am buying another because I’ve worn out pins on two but I might try to drill out the existing plastic assembly evenly and use grade 8 bolts to replace the blade pins.
Overall, I’m very pleased with the cutting action as nothing compares for cleaning brushy fence rows. The blades almost never break unlike the Shakespeare style blades sold at box stores.
The reason for four stars is the engineering design of plastic assembly is unacceptable without metal reinforcements.

Despite all the abuse and slightly shorter and bent blades(see photo) the trimmer still works well. It's a very tough, effective unit, and highly recommended for tough clearing work.

Despite all the abuse and slightly shorter and bent blades(see photo) the trimmer still works well. It's a very tough, effective unit, and highly recommended for tough clearing work.
I then tried it on the battery powered Milwaukee string trimmer, and it fit. So that is how I used it once. I do wish that replacement blades were more easily available and not so expensive.
Overall, the unit is not as heavy duty as I had expected; not sure how long it will last.
