I want to preface this review by being honest--I am a self-help book addict and I am usually disappointed in the lame, over generalized nature of most books. However, I really think this book draws you in to a call of action. I must admit, I do find the writer's style a bit cheesy and young, but for the target audience, I am sure this is perfect. I am a twenty something graduate student struggling in many aspects of my life. I really liked the idea of journaling, but I never found that I actually stuck with it for very long and often times I am overly critical of what I write. I find journaling to be really triggering or difficult to implement and usually I ended up more frustrated than anything.

This is a not a stale "one size fits all" self-help book. The prompts are very well thought out and really encourage you to take action. Kate Dalebout is great at reaching the audience in the sense that you really feel like she is talking to you and helping you sort out your own unique issues and emotions. I really like the way the book is sectioned out and she clearly lays out key steps to take in order to start solving some of these problems or dealing with some of the emotional baggage that may be bringing you down. More importantly, these steps are small and implementable. You can see progress very early on. She also appeals to me because I often find myself overwhelmed with emotion after journaling. Instead of feeling helpless, she encourages you to deal with those emotions using a unique plan of action.

Overall, I cannot say enough about how much this book has helped me in such a short amount of time. I am really glad I took the chance and purchased this. I have a feeling my therapy sessions will be even more fruitful because now I know the source of some of my problems and I have become much better at organizing and articulating my thoughts. I even have a better grasp on some of the unhealthy patterns and "traps" I regularly fall into.

I think that this is the first review that I have ever written on Amazon, but I just had to write about this book! I bought it as an ebook on my kindle and I am going to buy the actual paperback, too. This book, for me, is a lifesaver! I have always liked to journal but never made a habit of it. Since reading this book and starting on my daily journal habit, I have noticed big changes in my life and mentality. I suffer from a terrible anxiety disorder, OCD, and many physical health issues. I knew that I kept a lot bottled up, but until I read this book and started daily journaling, I never knew how much I kept bottled up or how bad it truly does affect me. This book is not a journal - it teaches you the importance of journaling, it gives a step-by-step guide to journaling for different circumstances and life events; it helps you to "Let It Out" then it helps you to "turn around" negative thoughts into graditude. For people like me who dwell on the negative, it is life changing to do this. It has something for everyone with tips on journaling for: morning journaling, writing a letter to your disease/ illness/condition, expressing anger, shame, guilt etc, journaling about the dreams you have at nights and many, many more. If you have past hurts, pent up anger, are dealing with disease, want to discover your passion in life, reach for a new goal or just express graditude and you want help or tips to do it effectively - Buy. This. Book. You won't regret it!

This book is truly amazing and just the beginning of the journaling revolution in self-help books! Katie's story is amazing in seeing how journaling transformed her own life. In her book, she outlines a variety of simple, self-discovery journaling exercises that really help you to get to know yourself on a whole new level and dig deep into your struggles and your purpose {and fun stuff too}. I loved all the exercises and have seen the power of journaling in my own life. If you are a 20-something or really any age you find yourself in a place of self-discovery and truly finding yourself and your place in this world...I highly recommend this book. Or even if you have always wanted to become a journaler! {Just check it out} Let Katie's story inspire you and inspire yourself by taking this journey through journaling. Major props to this book and definitely check out Katie's podcast if you love the book!

Let it Out is not a book of journal prompts, but a book full of ideas and techniques to may help a person get more in touch with their feelings, thoughts, hopes and desires.
Let’s be honest, I didn’t read this book cover to cover. It is the type of book that I like to flip through, skim and really read the parts that drawn me in. That being said, I really enjoyed this book on journaling. I highlighted the crap out of it and jotted down many notes in my own journal. Katie has some a really great take on keeping a journal. While I do not think that all of her ideas or prompts will fit into my life or the way, I prefer to keep my journal, there is still quite a lot I took away from this book and have and will add to my journaling arsenal. There is a little bit here for everyone! I recommend this book for those who want to start journaling as well as those who have been journaling for years.

I received my copy off Let it Out through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

5.0 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL TOOL TO STRUCTURE YOUR LIFE (and find a new hobby)
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 23, 2016
I had just completed an eCourse on 'Creative Dream Journalling' when I spotted this book so bought it, just to see if it could add on to what I'd learned - and it did.

Very well written by a young woman who's journalled for a long time, and full of chapters to get you thinking about letting either your creative juices flow, or empowering you to pour out those unhappy and painful memories that blight many of us (this was the case with me).

I must confess that since I did the eCourse and bought this book, I have become a trifle 'keen' (ie obsessed) with planners, stickers, coloured pens, sparkly paperclips, laminators etc (all of which go into creating a Creative Dream Journal) but it's no bad obsession, believe me - what fun it is.

So if you're one of those people who seems to do things at the same time rather than in a structured way; or if you are recently retired and you find yourself lacking motivation (or the opposite - trying to do too much), this is just the book to set you on your way to journalling ie structuring your day so that it doesn't all just become a blur. (I apologise in advance - you WILL get hooked on journalling and planners. Just go with it).

I have been slowly digesting this book. Savouring it really. And I just finished late last night. I found it absolutely amazing and EXACTLY what I needed. I loved everything about it, from the personal anecdotes with real life situations to the step by step directions with specific examples so that I don't waste time being stuck on stuff that doesn't matter. I cracked open my journal and the last entry was from Sept 14/14. Did I mention I needed this?! Thank you Katie for writing this useful and powerful gem in your rad, authentic voice.
