Ok, I've had this printer almost a month now, and I'm over the setup issues. It's working just fine. Whatever 'kinks' it had, seemed to have worked themselves out. Apple very nicely sent me an update for this printer, and I have no complaints at all. You really don't need a fax machine. The scanner scans to email, and I've saved myself time, energy, stamps and fax rates by scanning to email and sending correspondence that way. Since I'm out of work on short-term disability right now, this has been an immense help to me. It's saved me a lot of stress and headaches, and I can take care of business quickly and then forget about it. I highly recommend this printer - I changed my 4-star rating to 5 stars. If there were more stars to give, I would in a heartbeat. Yes, it took me a while to set it up, but I'm not computer savvy, and once I got passed that, it's been working fine. I love the quality of photos once they've been scanned into my MAC, I have absolutely no hesitation recommending this printer to anyone else.
I'm not one who researches a printer for hours, like some of the better reviewers here. I look at "Top printers of 2017" and get a few names. Then I look at reviews on Amazon and a few other places. Then I decide. Heck, free returns from Amazon, so nothing to lose.
I purchased this printer a month ago when it was $61 plus $20 in shipping, so roughly the same cost as today ($88, free shipping). Right away, I loved the sleek new design and how easy it was to set up (plug it in, connect it to our wireless, insert the CD for scanning, make it the default for my computers, voila!), It prints well and fast, and scans even faster. The scanning software is much improved compared with what I was using from my 2001 Photosmart 3100.
I couldn't be happier: The cost is very reasonable, all three functions work, both purchasing the ink cartridge separately or using the online replacement service are inexpensive compared with my last two HP printers, and it's wireless. I haven't tried printing from my iPhone yet, but understand that is something I can do, too.
I guess I am a lifetime HP user. I briefly looked at other printers, but after 30+ years of printing using HP products, I find no reason to go to another. (Well, other than the fact that HP support is useless if you're out of warranty, and customer support is NOT willing whatsoever to provide you with any hints or tips if the printer is acting up. Thankfully I have a few folks at work who could help, yet they were stumped by the 3100 stopping to work after the Windows 10 upgrade.) . This review is only about the all-in-one; if it was about HP support, I'd be posting a one-star review. Buyer beware!
