All the projects within this book are beautifully photographed and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. There are projects featuring Tunisian crochet and regular crochet. There are nearly 20 pages of detailed stitch instructions shown with photographs to help with both regular and Tunisian crochet stitches. There are also instructions for blocking the finished project. These pages are very helpful.
Included are patterns for wash cloths, hand towels, potholders, placemats, bags, scarves, pillows, shawls, pincushions, crochet hook cases, a ripple afghan, baby/doll blankets, cowls, and wrist warmers.
Happy stitching!

First of all, I consider myself an experienced crocheter. My rule when buying crochet books is that if I like at least half of the designs, I'll keep it. Anything less, and I will most likely return it. I am still on the fence about this one, and here is why.
There is a fair variety of patterns here, but some I would consider duplicates or near-duplicates. Some examples: The "Classic Shawl" and "Triangular Shawl" are both standard granny triangles. The only difference is one has stripes with no edging, the other has no stripes with an edging. The same goes for the "Princess Blanket" (meant for a doll) and "Grandmother's Baby Blanket." Both are granny rectangles with some differences in the striping and sizing. Likewise, the "Washcloth," "Hand Towel," and "Potholder," all use the same tunisian crochet stitch only with different dimensions, striping, and some minor differences to the edging. Personally, I would consider these patterns variations of one another, rather than separate patterns. I'm not sure whose idea it was to bump up the pattern number this way, the designer, publisher, or editor, but it fooled me. At least until I had the book in hand.
That said, there are some truly inspiring patterns here, and the photography does an excellent job of showcasing the pieces both as functional objects and works of craftsmanship. I happen to love the kitchen section, despite my peeves about duplicate patterns. The tunisian kitchen set is one of the reasons I bought the book. There are three other lovely hand towels, each using a different colorwork technique, and a vintage-style flower potholder that I would like to make. There is a darling flower pincushion pattern that I must make, even though I rarely sew! I am drawn to the three textured pillows (shown on the back cover), but I don't have any use for them and would likely never make them. There are no garments here, but there are some nice accessories. I love the "Romantic Shawl," with its delicate stitchwork and alternating pattern stitches. The "Cashmere Scarf" (shown on the cover) is also lovely and reminds me of some of the knitted scarves/wraps seen in Brooklyn Tweed's Wool People books ("Nimbus," "Stonecrop," and "Mirepoix," specifically). There is also a bobble cowl and mitten set that I can't quite decide if I like. The "Soft Scarf" is a nice take on the traditional granny square scarf, and uses multiple sized squares and two strands of yarn held together to vary the shades. It is shown as both a scarf and a tablerunner, but yet again, I'm not quite sure I would ever make it.
Other patterns in the book that I was less thrilled with include two crochet hook cases (one for standard hooks, the other for tunisian), a ripple scarf, a ripple afghan, a doll hat, three (?) doll blankets and several baby blankets, a tunisian openwork scarf, a tunisian handbag (on the cover), a handbag and drawstring bag (on the back cover), two granny square-style placemats, and a v-stitch cowl. These patterns, in general, lacked originality for me. They are variations of ones I have seen or made before, and just didn't give me that "zing" that some of the previously mentioned patterns did.
I must also criticize on the lack of crochet charts or diagrams, which are becoming more and more common in crochet books, magazines, and patterns. Charts are nearly always intuitive and make reading a crochet pattern so much simpler, that they are becoming a deciding factor in whether or not I keep a pattern book.
Lastly, to end on a good note, I must give Fevang credit for the "Basic Instructions" section which ends her book. I found this "crochet school" among the best that I've seen in a pattern book. Nearly every pattern book I own includes an instructional section, as more of a reminder of the basics, and it's nearly always useless unless I have a particular issue with an abbreviation or direction, which more often than not I can't even find in the back of the book! I can already tell that won't be an issue here. Fevang has included full photographed step-by-step instructions of the basic stitches, decreases/increases, and specialty stitches, as well as basic tunisian techniques and the more specialty/advanced tunisian stitches and techniques she uses in her patterns. There are also step-by-step photographs of how to assemble the pincushion and how to block finished items.
This was truly a lovely surprise!
In sum: I would recommend to an advanced beginner or someone still fairly new to the craft. There are many nice pieces here and a range of stitches and techniques. Few struck me as original enough, however, to justify me keeping the book. Furthermore, no charts, but a great photographic tutorial section in the back.
