Product Description
In A Mighty Wind, director Christopher Guest reunites the team from Best in Show and Waiting for Guffman to tell the story (cowritten by Eugene Levy) of ’60s-era folk musicians who, inspired by the death of their former manager, get back on the stage for one concert in New York City’s Town Hall. Levy and Catherine O’Hara are Mitch and Mickey, once the sweethearts of folk music until their bitter separation; Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer are classic folk trio The Folksmen; and Parker Posey, John Michael Higgins and Jane Lynch anchor a color-coordinated, harmonizing “neuftet”– The New Main Street Singers. Joining the musicians are Bob Balaban, Ed Begley Jr., Jennifer Coolidge, Paul Dooley, Michael Hitchcock, Don Lake, Larry Miller, Jim Piddock, Deborah Theaker and Fred Willard, who all work to revive folk music in this uniquely touching comedy.

Aside from the too-relatable Mitch and Mikey relationship, there are a couple of moments that I know Christopher Guest and Eugene Levy and written in as comedy, which just didn't strike me as comedy but instead as sweet and endearing? I think to a certain degree it's supposed to be intentional, because a lot of the film is endearing characters being foolish in their passions. One of the examples of too-endearing-to-be-funny was when Laurie Bohner (Jane Lynch) talks about her history in sex work. I feel like "oops she was in porn and isn't embarrassed about it" is supposed to raise a chuckle, but instead it just gives me a rare moment of actually liking the Bohners. The other moment was when Mark Schubb (Harry Shearer) comes out as a woman, and she doesn't even change her bass voice for the singing. That girl is a QUEEN and I'd kill to have that kind of confidence in myself. Probably in 2003 it was supposed to be funny! To 2021 me it's just glorious.
Anyway, great film filled with actors and actresses who are far too talented and wonderful all gathered in one place. A classic film that got robbed at the Oscars.
These guys are geniuses.
The first movie that I watched made by him was BEST IN SHOW and I really didn't liked it. It has a lot of fake interviews and sarcasm about dog owners/lovers and it was really boring for me. I decided not to see anymore of his movies again.
But not knowing that this movie was made by him, I saw this film.
This movie has the same trend.
It has a lot of fake interviews about this folk singers/instrument team-their friends and people from their professional society. I was amost about to give up until the last 30 minutes.
The last 30 minutes was good. It was about the festival which four folk singers/instrument teams gathered and played their songs in a concert hall and that was very fun-the main actors' team was included of course. The songs were good, and hillarious.
When Eugene Levy was gone for awhile and comes back with a flower in his hand, that moment was kind of fun. I liked his charactor. I knew that he wrote this script so that made it more understandable about his charactor.
After all, I didn't hate this film like the other film BEST IN SHOW mainly because of the concert scene.
It was worth watching.

Hier geht es um ein Revivalkonzert von Folkbands.
Das Genre wird gut auf die Schippe genommen.
The current 'A Mighty Wind' brings his dissecting eye to bear upon the world of Country and Western. Once again he uses the same team featured in the previous two films to good effect both serious and humorous. The team perform their own music with considerable talent so the musical element is presented very well indeed. The music is simply the vehicle into an investigation into the main characterisations involved.
However, this review is not intended to discuss the actual film as by now it will have both its supporters and detractors. Entering into those conflicts is not the purpose of the review which is aimed squarely at the many supporters of this film.
Essentially, for all of those who are keen supporters of this film and who have bought the previous DVD version of this disc, the only issue of vital importance will be whether the Blu-ray offers an improvement technically sufficient to justify the additional expense.
For this reviewer the answer is a clear affirmative. The upgrade offers a clear advance on both image and audio quality with the imaging being a marked improvement. The colours are firmer and there is an increase to the perceived depth of the imaging. The whole film simply becomes more 'real.' The film, which is so concerned with close characterisation, benefits considerably from this enhancement of reality.
The degree of improvement experienced from this BD will also inevitably depend on the replay equipment used. The following technical information is intended to be a guide to aid in assessment.
The screen used for this review is only of moderate dimensions being a 40 inch television screen. However, the television is a high performing 4K unit which delivers a compensating positive effect. The moderate screen size lacks the impact of larger screens but is less critical of film faults.
However, the contributing player is, unusually, able to separate the audio and visual HDMI signals before they leave separately to the television and pre-amp. That feature enhances both the visual and audio elements of the output. The audio delivers an unusually wide-ranging and revealing performance, useful in this case.
Readers with alternative equipment will have to interpret this review bearing in mind their own equipment and its comparative advantages and disadvantages.
In summary this BD is a transfer from good quality and relatively recent 2003 film stock and has responded well to the BD transfer. It is well worth considering for fans of Country and Western and admirers of Christopher Guest's style of humour.
