How to use the Spring Fling in the Field

Creating a feeding flock scene is one of the best ways to bring in your target Tom. Smaller hens while feeding in grass can look nearly concealed in real life. These decoys are built spot on to create the kind of life-life setting the keen eyes of a Tom are built to catch on to. Surround your flock with other decoys like Montana Decoy's Dinner Belle, Miss Purr-fect and Jake Purr-fect and you'll tag out without any issues.

Breaking Down

The pole is easily removed by slipping off the band (attached to bird) from the stake and pulling the pole apart to fold on top of itself. The pole is short and has only one pivot point for easy break-down. Once that is done quickly you can address folding the decoy.

Figure-8

Notice the position of the hunter's hands. Place each thumb on opposite ends of the bird and begin to twist inward making a figure-8. This will allow the bird to fold into a disc and the last step is folding the head over the rest of the bird.

Final Step

Once the bird is folded down into a disc-like shape you then can take the band that is attached to the belly of the bird and wrap it around the entire decoy. Once that is done you can toss her in the pack and move on. The whole process takes a few seconds, once practiced. This set of photos you just looked at was taken in succession and the hunter got his decoy folded in less than 5 seconds.

Product Description

It’s not complicated. Toms foolishly rush in to rendezvous with a seductive hen. This breeding hen turkey decoy has made it easier than ever to give gobblers what they are looking for in the spring woods. Using a photo taken of a hen just before she was bred sends an invitation no tom can turn down. It’s the beginning of any classic love story. Guy meets girl. Guy falls for girl…well, we’ll just let hunters holding the gun write the script. We bet it ends with feathers flying and rave reviews.

This will be my first year turkey hunting. I will admit I have not used this decoy in the field. I will also admit I overlooked the fact that this is two-dimensional, as in flat, not three-dimensional. I've watched several videos on turkey hunting where the Tom comes right up to other brands' three-dimensional decoys trying to make heads or tails of them. This is two dimensional, I don't know what a Tom would think once he realized that and if that would give a hunter enough time to get an appropriate shot. This review was more to make people aware. This decoy may actually work perfectly fine in the field, who am I to say. I'm just skeptical. Both the Spring Fling and the Dinner Bell are two dimensional decoys. I just always have to remember to read everything before I buy. I liked the weight of them and how small they folded. I just thought it was a little less to carry. My mistake.
