Very Nice Shades; Worthless Instructions

Very Nice Shades; Worthless Instructions
I bough seven of these shades (two six-foot, one five-foot, one four-foot, and three three-foot shades) to cover the windows and door on my screened-in porch. The shades are really beautiful, and they block a lot of the afternoon sunshine, making the porch and the house a lot cooler. The shades also offer quite a bit of privacy. It's difficult to see into the porch through the shades. You can see out, however, the shades definitely diffuse the view. I am pleased with the result. On the other hand, one of the main reasons I ordered these shades was due to the many reviews touting the ease of installation. Maybe the shades used to come ready to hang, but no more. The shades arrive rolled up, with the pull strings laced through the pulley, and then looped around the rolled shade. They are not ready to hang. You need to first run the pull strings around the back of the shade and fasten the strings into slots on the back of the shade. The sum total of the instructions for this exercise is found on a 5x7 inch sheet of paper with four nearly wordless diagrams on it. I've attached a copy to this review. I doubt I am the only person that finds these diagrams virtually indecipherable and unhelpful. If I am the only person, then keep doing what you're doing, Oriental Furniture. But, as for me, without a few helpful YouTube videos, I would likely not have figured this out. In addition, time will tell whether the pull strings will stand up to use. They seem more like soft shoe strings than sturdy strings. Time will tell. Also, if I were to do this again, I would buy more of the smaller shades and fewer of the larger sizes. It is more difficult to smoothly operate the pull strings on thamn 3-foot shade than on the 5-foot shade, for example.

I wanted exterior blinds and purchased a set advertised as such at well-known home improvement story. Within a week, they were a mess! I called about returning them and the manager informed me they were rated for indoor use. I said NOT according to your website. They took them back, and then I set out to find good replacements. I bought this and absolutely love them. The Bamboo is such a hard word, so they are taking weather well and just getting stronger. The sewing is triple done, sometimes more, so these blinds just take a liking and keep on looking great. Well worth the money when you need a blind for exterior us.

Nice product for the price. One thing that has been happening with all of these is the 2 ropes that terminate on the top of the unit are inserted with these little plastic insert pieces that keep coming out on all of these blinds that I purchased... Because of that I took off one star.... I would recommend either supergluing them in or you could put something else attached to the ropes to keep them up their.... When they come out, they can be put back in, but kind of a hassle.... work around is easy pretty easy....

I ordered 2 of these 72 inch bamboo shades for our back, west-facing, screened-in porch. They arrived quickly. They are quite heavy. We found the roller mechanism on the left end of one shade had come apart. My husband fixed it by replacing the broken rivet. We hung the other shade then discovered that the latch to lock the cord in place didn't engage at all. To lower the shade, and raise it, you really have to hold tight to the cord or it zips through your hand due to the weight of the shade. But far worse is that the reeds are NOT closely spaced and the sun shines right through them to the extend you can't keep your eyes open against it, the shades may as well not be there. They filter the daylight t a degree, but not the sun at all. After a week all the enclosed L-hooks on which to hang them bent and had to be replaced with something sturdier as these shades are heavy. Next, we noticed that then ends of each shade had begun to droop, almost bend actually. My husband finally screwed each shade to the top of the window frame in four equally spaced places per shade and did away with any hooks at all. We had similar shades before buying these but they were worn and needed replaced after 10 years of use, and they were plastic with closely-fitted 'reeds' that filtered the afternoon sun as desired. We assumed these would too. No, they are awful. Had we not needed them at the time due to a function we were having, we'd have returned them as soon as we discovered the broken rivit and broken latch. Definitely will NOT buy these things again no recommend them.

very inexpensive cotton string, doesn't look like it will last. Not braided string. Other problem is the roll up catch mechanism, well, it is flat, unlike older models I've had that step out a bit, so you can easily get the thread to grasp onto the latch. So, I don't really recommend it, unless you do what we plan to do: replace the mechanism with a metal one, and add braided string. Basically re-make it. Only good side is, it's about half the price of fancier ones. Yet, it seems, in the past, the mechanisms were so much nicer for the money.
The mechanism has popped apart (plastic balls), and we have had to put it back together on the 5th roll up. Waiting to see how long it takes to fall apart before we replace the main components. Bamboo looks fine though. . .

We use this on a store front to block the sun from some fruits and vegetables.

We have been using this product for three weeks and it sees a lot of traffic. People move it around all the time to reach the items they want.

This product is strong and does a good job of blocking the sun.

We leave it outside 24/7 and we have no issues so far.
