Highly recommend this over the branded Lego games. Pass on Lego Batman and buy this, it won’t disappoint!
I bough this again because I never get to play it on the Wii U since two of my kids are on the Wii U constantly. My son is always playing any Lego game and my older daughter is always playing a Zelda title. And when they are on together they play minecraft. What this means is I never get to use the Wii U and I always wanted to play this game. I have played it on the Wii U some and it is fun.
But now with this copy I can play on my Switch... an added bonus is I can now play the game along with my son and we have lots of fun together exploring Lego city. Since he has more play time with the Wii U version he shows me around the city and tell me where we need to go next. But it is loads of fun to now be able to play along side him. For this alone, I am happy I rebought this title.... on sale for $40 here on Amazon. Not as cheap as the Wii U version, but I was happy not to pay full price to rebuy this game for one extra feature.
So which version should you buy if you own a switch and a Wii U? my advice is:
If you wish to save money buy the Wii U version. A bargain at the Nintendo Selects price!!
If you want to play along with your kids buy this version.
If you already own this, wait for it to be on sale again on the switch.
Enjoy!
I've seen this game described as a G-rated, family-friendly version of Grand Theft Auto and I'd agree. The game is clearly designed so kids can play, but it's just as fun for adults. Having never played a Lego game, I was surprised that the humor and the voice-acting were all quite good, and overall the game is really polished and has a lot of layers to it. There is attention to detail and a lot of stuff to do - it feels like a big, substantial game. People complain about the load times, and they are definitely longer than most games, but they aren't that bad - the loading screens certainly don't detract from an otherwise stellar game. If you, like me, enjoyed the exploration and freedom of Mario Odyssey and Zelda BOTW, I would put this game next on your list.
Why isn't there an anime yet? The main storyline is what makes this game shine its funny and full of action with returning characters from its previous game and unique minigames to try.
LEGO City Undercover is the best LEGO game. The story mode is the most engaging it’s been, transferring from the classic levels to the ridiculously large world very often. Other people say it’s like GTA for kids, and that is correct, but I say it’s better.
The world has an incredible amount of different collectibles that you can start on the minute you leave the police station. Play through the story mode for sure, but don’t hesitate to build a Super-Build or two on your way!
The Switch port of this game does a lot with a little. It adds two-player, fixing the biggest flaw of the Wii-U version, it cuts the loading times (which were painfully long) as well as adding in something nice to look at while you’re waiting to load, adds hilarious tips, and adds new characters and vehicles, including Grace Makepiece, who I believe is a female version of the protagonist Chase Mcain. And speaking of the humor, this game references so many franchises, it must be competing with the LEGO Movie 2 for poking fun at its franchise. Is the Switch version worth it if you enjoyed the Wii U version? Absolutely!

Now that I actually get the storyline, the game is way better. Also the cutscenes are hilarious
