Product Description
Ripping down large panels into smaller more manageable workpieces is one of the trickiest, most intimidating, and expensive steps of any wood project. Even if you're ripping with the nicest table saw, you're still forced to lift large heavy panels, balance them carefully to avoid binding and bowing, while at the same time trying to support the finished workpieces and waste material as they exit the saw. There is a faster way. There is an easier way! There is a better way. Introducing the all-new Kreg Rip-Cut. The Rip-Cut is an incredibly handy tool which speeds and simplifies the process of ripping down large plywood and MDF panels. No measuring, no marking, no chalk lines-the Rip-Cut quickly and easily attaches to almost any circular saw, letting you cut pieces from 1/8-Inch up to 24-Inch wide with tremendous accuracy. The Rip-Cut is a no-nonsense, straight forward, accessory for your circular saw. It features a durable design including a solid aluminum guide rail, an easy-to-read adjustable scale, and a reversible guide arm which works whether you're left or right handed and whether your blade is on the left or right side of the saw. It's an incredibly easy, precise, and affordable way to break down large panels for almost any project.

1. Ignore all the folks that have issues with "plastic parts" - these are very sturdy plastic, they don't feel flimsy at all
2. Assembly took 5 minutes...only thing you need to assemble is the saw guide - 2 screws. Installing the saw was easy as well, again 2 "set screw" type screw that hold the saw with just friction. It is easy to drill 2 holes on the saw base plate, so these screws can securely lock the saw.
3. Holding the saw in one hand and the guide with the other takes some getting used to..
4. You need to align the marker everytime you put hte saw in the jig. This takes some getting used to...see below
5. After a while, I stopped even marking my workpiece, I just trusted the width readout...but, this led to some screwups when I tried to cross cut the waste away in some long pieces. Since, I had aligned the marking for cutting the actual piece (the marking was set to take into account the saw kerf). You need to stay consistent in how your account for the kerf, then it is extremely accurate.
6. Just isn't safe and doesn't work for small work pieces....you need to clamp it and the clamps get in the way of the jig - just doesn't work. I was cutting 22"x20" shelves from a 22"x96" melamine sheet...the first few shelves were on the mark...perfectly square. Once I got close to the end, hte last 2 were not great...they had a bit of an angle. Rip'ing a 4x8 sheet is just spot on everytime, as there is some weight to the sheet. This alone justifies this tool! (unless you have a big table saw with infeed/outfeed table, then this is not needed) Crosscutting is just not very stable...gets better when you use clamps. (can't sell my contractor's table saw, yet :) )
it takes a few awkward minutes to set it up — most particularly to calibrate the pointer — but once that's done it takes little to no maintenance. attaching your saw will take a few adjustments but the mounting screws are adjustable laterally so you shouldn't have any problems. my ryobi rip saw has a nut to secure the (much, much smaller) rip guide, and i had to remove that nut entirely. but that was the extent of the "difficulty" i had mounting my saw. i recommend doing a few practice rips on old stock to get the hang of moving your saw hand and your guide hand at the same time, as well as to just get a general feel for the product, but once you've got it down you're set.
possibly the best "pro" for this product is its ability to make duplicate cuts without re-measuring, as with a table saw. once you have the cut width set, you can just bang out as many cuts in that width as you'd like.
another big "pro" is that this is a LOT easier to transport offsite than even a wheeled portable tablesaw. if you're helping out a friend with some sheet work, that's pretty attractive. in fact, even if you were to take this to a site which did have a table saw, you'd effectively double your sheet ripping ability with one person on the table and one using this, which is also very attractive.
one "con" i noticed is that sometimes you have to get real creative with your clamps. on big sheet goods it's not an issue, particularly if you've got a good blade and you're using risers on the ground — you can use your own body weight to still the sheet in those instances. but with thinner stuff such as the 3/4" x 6" boards i recently needed to rip down to 2" slats, you're going to have to think more creatively. i've found that countersinking a screw through the board itself in an area which will eventually be scrap is the way to go. the guide will slide right over the screws and you're set.
another reviewer noted that ripping thin slats will put your hand very near to the blade. this is an accurate observation and you should heed it. even though the guide end will be between your hand and the blade, you still need to be super careful. save that beer for AFTER the rips.
with a few very minor quirks aside, this product is perfect for the price and gives you some real value as a hobbyist or helper.
My main task for this was to turn 4x8 sheets into 2x8 sheets of plywood. It does a pretty good job. The cut isn't perfect, but its not bad. It is definitely better than trying to do it by hand, or wrestling the plywood up to the table saw. I coupled this with a 60T finishing blade. By putting the plywood on top of my workbench with a piece of 1" foam insulation between the work surface and plywood, I could easily break down sheet goods. Cut quality was excellent and very straight too.
The main downside is setup time.
Mounting your saw to the baseplate is a little bit of a pain. There are two metal set-screws that you have to tighten down. They seem sturdy, but they connect to the plastic baseplate which bends - so don't over tighten. Then if you want to cross-cut, you have to either take the saw off the baseplate (a couple minutes) or just use the plastic baseplate without the square (not quite perfect, since its not totally flat - it has a notch at the front).
For me, if I'm breaking down more than one sheet, I'll use this. If I'm just doing a single sheet I'll use the table saw - even though its more awkward. But if you don't have a table saw, and are looking for a way to rip sheet goods, this is a great solution.
The only other downside I saw to this was the complexity of setup. I've seen other reviews call this out too, but it seems overly complicated to setup - I'm sure that is so that it can be adapted to many different saws, but it took a good 15 minutes to put such a simple tool together.
Bottom line - I would buy it again, and will continue to use it to break down sheet goods.

Build quality is up to Kregs usual standard. I have a few of their products and have to say, I've not been disappointed in any of them.
The Rip-Cut is a real time saver and excellent value for money.
Aún así la recomendaría para hacer cortes de hojas de triplay y MDF y poder montarlas sobre la sierra de banco
