Pennies (Dollar Book 1) Kindle Edition
"I'm not the hero in this story, girl. You'd do best to remember that.”
Once upon a time, I was an eighteen year old psychology student.
Now, I’m a man’s property.
Stolen and sold, I’ve been decorated in bruises since the day my world changed two years ago.
I suffer in silence, I crave freedom, but I never break.
I can’t.
Until he arrives.
Elder Prest, the only man to look at me and see me. The only man more ruthless than my owner.
He wants me for reasons I don’t understand.
He claims me for one night then leaves and never looks back.
Until he returns.
And life becomes much more complicated.

I wanted to RAGE on Pim's behalf!
Elder you had me hooked from the get go!
So well written - drawing right in as if you were living the story yourself!
I think it may have been the villain in this that made it hard to read. There was not one but of softness to him that made the reader (me) be able to feel anything but pure hatred for him. Even Dornan from Blood and Roses wasn't as bad and that's saying something! The sickness and evil flowing from Alrike was like no other I've ever experienced. So if you like brutally dark reads, Pennies has it in spades.
Ok, saying all of the above, I can't wait to see what life (no matter how meaningless) has in store for Pim next. I'm off to read Dollar's, and hopefully the pages will turn a little easier?
Normally I would rate a 5 star, but the struggle left me feeling unsure. I feel a little harsh giving this 4 stars, but I'm thinking it can only get better (this was not bad writing in the least) I'm sure Dollars will have me turning pages quicker than I can read and a few sleepless nights because I can't put the damn thing down!
I am in awe of Pepper Winters and how her creativity just flows. I felt so much emotion while reading this book, it really makes you sit up and think about the whole Sex Slave and Human Trafficking trade and how brutal it truly is.
This story is so different from all the other stories about human slavery, it does not portray the captor as a handsome man but as the monster that he truly is.
The heroine, Tasmin/Pimlico, does not fall her captor Alrik/Master A.
We are invited into the most inner thoughts of Pim as she becomes mute for her captor and his vile friends. We are not privy to all of the violent acts bestowed upon Pim but the description of her body, malnutrition, burn marks, bruises new and old, whip marks and broken bones gives us all the information needed to know that the years of violence is a story written onto her flesh.
Pim's will to survive, or to win, is so strong that you cannot but love her. She would have to be the strongest heroine I have read about and my heart is breaking for the girl that she used to be and the slave that she has now been forced to become.
I'm not going to save much about Alrik/Master A except that to me he is a coward, a brute, a man who suffers from 'small man syndrome', a monster but most of all he is a sadist in the purist form. I hope he rots in hell.
As for Elder Prest, now he is a conundrum. He himself has suffered in the past but to what extent we have not been given the privilege of knowing yet. Hopefully in Dollar$ (book 2) we will find out.
He is a self proclaimed Thief, Murderer, Swindler but most of all he seems to be a patient man. Well at least when it comes to Pim, he is. He lives his life by only his rules and he finds himself breaking them for his Silent Mouse. What he has in mind for her is very intriguing . I have a few of my own theories but only time will tell, in book 2 I hope.
Thanks Pepper, for not only another fantastic read, but another man (Elder) to hopefully swoon and drool over. Watch out Q and Jethro you might have meet your match.
I have been disappointed by this author in the past, so I was not expecting it to be as good as it was. It should come with another warning though: Do not start this book at the beginning of a work week. I could not stop myself from picking it up at every opportunity which was not as often as I would have liked, it would be a great book to read curled up on the lounge with no where to be.
To all my book friends who like a dark twisted tale take the gamble, you will not be disappointed.
I have read a few books that started out similar with the whole girl sold at auction thing, this one was original in that it did not sugar coat anything!! You were lead down a very dark path that instead of seeing light at the end it just kept getting darker. Pepper Winters did not shy away from things others have and I think it made the story more real for me.
Tasman/Pim, had so much inner strength and stubbiness, I really enjoyed her determination to stay strong and I loved how she got strength from writing her story to no one. It was interesting to me that her mothers profession and strictness also helped her stay strong.
Alrik/Master A, well what can you say about this man except maybe..............C#$%^R!!!!
Elder, I am not going to comment on him much as it is obvious his true colours are still hidden and we will see plenty of him in the second book. The one thing I will say about him is he is HOT and dam that tatt sounds awesome, I secretly or now not so secretly want to lick it LOL.

What’s this book about? (I'm trying to give as little spoilers as possible)
This is that old school Dark Romance. If you can’t handle it, whine in some other comment section. That sounds very rude. I’m sorry. Just know that this is a tough story to read. There are no heroes here.
Years ago, when I read the Indebted series, I tried to get into Pennies, but I didn’t feel it. I saw money in the title and I thought it’d be more of the same. FOUR YEARS LATER, I realize how BLOODY WRONG I WAS! I picked this up again after Elder made a cameo in Sully’s Fantasy and I found out that he will have another cameo in Jinx’s Fantasy.
And damn, what a story this was. Our lead girl is a silent warrior queen. She hurts so much in this book. I can’t even start. I want to hug and protect her. I wished for her to stay strong. She had me hooked from the moment she innocently graces that fateful stage… Without too many spoilers, she’s honorable and strong and I PRAYED FOR HER HAPPY ENDING which, knowing Pepper Winters, will take a whole eternity to come. There’s a miniscule of a POS that I won’t even discuss. Then there’s Elder. Mysterious, handsome, vigilant and observant. Who is he? What is his end game? He did so much in this story, but, like our lead girl, I always feared the ‘BUT.’ This story ends with a cliffhanger. It is heartbreaking, but at this point in the novel, your heart has died a thousand times already. I picked up book 2 the next day.
I recommend this to readers that want a story of strength, loss and pain. This is very dark and readers should proceed with caution. This is Pepper Winters at her finest dark moments.

Yes she writes ok. But it's useless if she can't give a good story.
Reading it on kindle, I panicked of having put money on that thing. Thank god, it costs me nothing, otherwise, I would have been very upset.

Questa serie ,comunque, non deluderà chi ha amato la serie Debt inheritance. E' crudo, disperato e allo stesso tempo dolce e passionale. Che si può volere di più?
