This is definitely a very good expansion, would probably rank it along with Dark city. The introduction of the double cards, as well as the sidekicks, make it a really good experience, and the number of heroes and schemes is also pretty decent. Would definitely recommend this one before other of the expansions. The theme of this expansion is also great, pulled straight from one of the best runs of all Marvel Comics (if not the best IMHO).

Split cards! hmm, what to choose!

I'm a huge Legendary card game fan. I got this box as an early birthday present and I love this expansion. Maybe you haven't heard of all the characters that come with this set, but don't let that deter you.
The split cards give you lots of flexibility to allow you that extra edge if you seem to always come up short on either side of your turn. The Masterminds are really challenging and the schemes are fun. Authoritarian Iron Man is still a thorn in my family's side.
I would say to get Dark City as the first expansion, then this one second (which is actually the order I purchased them). This expansion is a good way to round out your collection and give you a few new features to your games. I don't own any other big box past these two, so can't compare to Xmen, Secret Wars 1&2 or WW Hulk.

PROS: Split cards are great--they go even further down the path of versatility, and they’ve been updated since to permanent status, meaning you can see them in any set now.

This is the first appearance of Size-Changing too, which is a mechanic that’s been successful enough to bring back out twice. If you’re already in a color, then you’re usually incentivized to keep buying that color, and Size-Changing encourages you further down that path. You do always feel like you’re getting extra value when you buy some Size-Changing cheaply, and the higher printed cost can be helpful in any number of scenarios.

I also like Fortify as a design choice: instead of “just” escaping, these guys extra-punish you for getting out, kind of like those ascending masterminds.

CONS: I do find that when I compare this set to other big boxes, this one “feels” smaller in scope.

Also, I personally hate playing against SHIELD Clearance.

Also, I know this is a hypocritical gripe, but split cards sometimes lead to some complicated turns where you’ve got to figure out exactly which combination of sides you want to use. I actually think that these cards are nice additions to the full-random-all-sets though, since a little bit of variety is a nice addition, but when everything out is a split card, it’s a bit of a headache to process.

Favorites: Vision, Wiccan, Patriot, Goliath, Stature

Least Favorites: Iron Spider, SHIELD Clearance, Grievous Wounds, (Pet Avengers?)

None of these gripes is enough for me to drop this rating below 5. Legendary continues to prove itself a great game, and this set expands it, bringing in a number of essential characters like Luke Cage, Vision, Falcon, Misty Knight, etc.

Lots of fun, but it does have a learning curve. If you need to, there are great tutorials on youtube that will walk you though setting up the board and playing it. They can be way better than the written instructions, when you are figuring the game out. In fact, plan on playing it a couple of times to get a feel for it, figure it out, and figure if you want to alter any of the rules for your own game play.

What? I can't be the only one who does that.

Starting this review realize I simply love legendary and own every expansion, if you do not love Legendary than I do recommend a skip on this expansion even if the title is a big draw.

The first thing that stood out to me was the artwork, it is absolutely amazing in this expansion.
The Good-finally more avengers, the artwork, the masterminds are all great, the villain groups are pretty good as well(minus Great Lake Avengers), Most of the Heroes are great as well my favorites are peter parker, captain america and Hulkling. I love the new sidekicks and wounds adds a lot to each game, especially the wounds that very really just getting boring.
The Bad- Schemes are boring, every hero comes with a divided card (Every single one and I do not like the divided cards, in theory their cool but the card themselves are too out of place and takes away from the art.),

For me there is more good than bad but I do not like playing with the Heroes since they have the divided cards
I don't know what it is with upper deck but non of their big box expansions have hit the same mark as Dark city did
both Secret Wars was just filled with "why would you include them" and worse part there was two of them
Civil war had the biggest potential, but with the divided cards and boring schemes feel like a big misstep
