DANNER “A Portland Oregon company.” ....made in China. Cmon! 170 bucks you guys can at least be honest about where it’s made. Overall a good boot so far. Very stiff out of the box, but they are a “backpacking” boot, not a hiking shoe. The left boot has been fine, however the right boot where the top of the back cuff hits the Achilles, is so stiff when you climb hills it digs hard into your Achilles causing pain and chafing. I’ve put around 60 miles on them and they are juuuust starting to break in. I spent some time working that cuff, in hopes to soften it up. Seems to have worked a little. For this who say this boot is broke in out of the box, I have to assume this is your first boot purchase.The Outsole: This part is actually pretty disappointing considering I read reviews and I spent a long time researching this boot, the Danner 500 and the Salomon boots. The tread is weak like a mud terrain that has 40k miles on em. I did read they wear out rather quick, and I don’t doubt that now. I wouldn’t buy these boots again, but I’m not saying they are terrible. I just feel for the money, you can get a better, longer lasting boot with a good warranty. If you build quality boots, your warranty will be more than one year. Of course, you get what you pay for. Save your money and go with some Kennetreks or Scarpas. Or even a higher end Danner. (Actually made in the USA!)

I got these boots for grass mowing and yard/brush/landscaping work and they are excellent. Fit to size compared to other shoes I wear, Nike etc though I bought a half size larger than normal just in case they ran a bit small. The stitching along the sole of the shoe is exceptional which I'm sure will add to the life of the boots tremendously and the reason I bought the them...this is where other cheaper boot and shoes eventually come apart in damp/wet conditions due to only being glued and having thin or no stitching at the sole. They are very well made, strong eyelets, stitching, durable material and are really water proof, unlike other boots that claim this but fall short. They are a very light weight boot and quite comfortable to wear all day long. Well worth the money.

I'm on to my second pair of these now. I have wide and extremely flat feet along with all of the pain and problems that go along with that. These are probably the most comfortable shoes I have owned. I have walked through standing water and my feet always stayed dry. These are well built and the boot will outlive the sole. The sole is unfortunately not replaceable. Because of their comfort I ware these almost exclusively, every day. I find the soles are not as grippy as I would like and that they do ware out on the faster side of things, though I do get about a year of usage out of a pair. Because of my aching feet, comfort trumps all. For that reason they are a 5 star winner to me. If I could find as comfortable a shoe that also had better grip and lasted longer I would demote these to three stars; but for now I haven't so 5 it is.

Bought these expecting a great boot, and that is what I got. I work for the county I live in, which involves a lot of walking, operating equipment, and standing on asphalt during the hot day, and these were very comfortable. However the soles started breaking down after a little over a year and a half. I glued them back together a few times, but they got to the point that they just completely fell apart. Even with the tread wore down and the soles broken the tops are still holding together, and look pretty good. The stiching is mostly intact, with the exception of a corner that is barely lifting, but it's right at the point the soles are broken the worst. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone, especially someone not spending time on concrete and asphalt.

I contacted Danner, and I got very quick, courteous replies. Apparently their "Hiking" boots have a little softer sole for traction, and they sent me a discount for a new pair of boots.

I've been wearing this boot model for several years now (men's for a woman). My feet are always dry and warm due to the waterproof GoreTex feature. Great in all weather, breathable in hot. They can be lacking in cushioning over time, but nothing a good gel in-sole won't fix. Generally the outside leather and vinyl materials have been durable and long lasting, and just the right height. I always replace the cheesy laces that come with them with Obenauf-oiled laces that last forever. Easy to take off due to the quick hooks. I am slightly pigeon-toed, and these are soft-soled hikers for traction, so I find its weakest point is the outside right of the sole, where it can quickly wear through leaving a hole I fill with Shoe-Goo for awhile until I have to pitch them. One pair wore through really fast when the outsides were like new, and one pair came unglued where the black sole is glued to the rest of the boot, so I returned those. I once owned a pair of Danner WORK BOOTS exactly like these, and the soles were much more durable and long lasting, so perhaps next time I'll not go for the hiker-soled boots and instead get a pair of work-soled Danner's for work, and keep a pair of hikers aside for hiking. I oil the outside of these with Skidmore's and it darkens the leather and preserves it longer without breathing issues (and looks like a nice pair of shoes for work). I've purchased several on Amazon, and the quality sometimes didn't match the store-bought ones, but most did for $89 instead of $170 at Cabela's or Murdoch's. I've been very happy with them!

These are really great, I should order more to keep on a shelf somewhere.

I bought these to have a much more rigid and supportive light hiker for New England's rooty and rocky trails. They are fantastic, most light hikers you feel every rock and root wrecking your foot through the soles, these are a lot better and have a rubber compound that is great when it's wet too, provide nice sure footing over damp rocks and roots where many soles will be very slippery. You can tromp along gravel all day without the foot fatigue.

I wear these for general walking around too and love the support and the comfort overall.

Fit with Danner is very consistent as well, too many other manufacturers are not using consistent lasts, Danner appears to. I wear a 14/15 depending on the shoe and inconsistent lasts are a huge issue with big feet. I have other Danner boots, all the same size and at this point I can trust that ordering from them will deliver consistent sizing.
