Some may be weary of the processor in this guy but don't be. As long as you don't expect it to do ridiculously intensive things you'll be fine. But it can even surprise you... It can run a few older or less demanding games that run on Linux and can do them pretty well. Due to the Broadwell architecture, temperature is really low and thus the fan for this CPU is virtually undetectable. I literally have to put my ear directly on the vents to hear it!
Speakers are absolutely fantastic for the price you pay. Nice and loud. Definitely not overly tinny and also have a surprising amount of bass!
Battery life is pretty much as advertised. On a full charge i get 6.5 to 7 hours of STREAMING from WIFI through HDMI to my TV with the screen brightness set all the way down to 0 so the backlight turns off. I'm sure that if you had the media on a local drive, the battery would last a smidge longer, however this Chromebook does have a power saving intel WIFI chip so not sure how much difference it would make.
The screen is fantastic too. Colors could be a slight bit more saturated but the clarity is certainly there. The IPS display does have some nice viewing angles however. Also with this 15 inch 1920 x 1080 display you have plenty of screen space.
From a ChromeOS perspective, don't bother with Chromebooks if you haven't got some kind of Internet connection; it is virtually unusable without one. However it is relatively simple to use for first timers. Currently the Chrome store is evolving and always releasing new apps but unfortunately it does have a bit of a ways to go to be 'full feature' by MY PERSONAL opinion.
If you are willing to install and get to know Linux (if you haven't already) this baby will really treat you well. As i stated before, installation of Linux on this specific Chromebook is really quite easy specially for someone who is already versed in Linux. I purchased the 16GB model with the intention of upgrading the SSD; which I did finally do earlier this week. It took the SSD like a champ and now I'm up to 128GB for roughly $50 including shipping. As easy as removing the 18 (or possibly more) screws on the back and gently working the lid off, removing the screw for the old SSD, attaching the new SSD, replace screw, put the sucker back together, boot, then restore from backups or fresh install!
~~~THAT'S RIGHT THIS MODEL'S SSD CAN BE UPGRADED. THE RAM IS SOLDERED SO IT CANNOT BE UPGRADED.~~~~
Make sure to buy the 4GB model as it will definitely give you a significant edge in all aspects of performance specially for Linux if you chose to go that route.
CONS
Only real cons that I have for this are things that you can't really expect at this price point like a backlit keyboard... But my honestly biggest gripe is only 1 USB 2.0 and 1 USB 3.0...
TL;DR This is a great Chromebook for the price. Large, clear screen. Great sounding speakers. Mediocre ChromeOS (just get LINUX!!) User upgradable M.2 SSD. A bit heavy. Little too few USB ports. But honestly if you are looking for a Linuxtop GET THIS.
Overall I am impressed enough with this Chromebook that I honestly probably will never buy another laptop again, especially at these price points. The only limitation you are going to have with a Chromebook is if you need to run normal software programs since it will not do that. However, if you simply need something for light office duty (writing, spreadsheets, etc.), this will suit you fine. You can use Google Docs or another third party application for basic functions. I will say that I have found that Google Docs is absurdly slow, but this seems to be a common complaint if you do the research and it's why I opted to download the Word app (which runs fine and handles my large multiple hundred page documents with ease). Included SD and USB ports ensure that you should never have a storage issue since you can store on the included 16gb, on the cloud (Google Drive), or on removal storage devices. If you are looking at this particular product, do pay attention to the size as it is rather large since it is a 15.6" system. It is also relatively heavy, but it's still lighter than my old laptop. In my case, I wanted the larger screen due to my eyesight and I always carry around a backpack, so the size was a non-issue for me. I know it is for some people and if you are one of them, you should probably look at one of the 11 or 12 inch models.
If you are looking for a basic affordable pseudo laptop, I don't think you will be disappointed with this product.
