Nice Book Bad Seller

Nice Book Bad Seller
This is a beautiful book with gorgeous yummy looking photos. My problem isn’t with the book but with the seller that clearly sent a damaged book. There was a large scratch across the back of the book jacket with a thank you sticker strategically placed over the 6” scratch. It also had a black mark across the pages clearly indicating it was a second. $28 for a damaged book. No thank you. I’ll be returning it.
Thank you for your feedback

I saw him on TV and he was talking about the book. I just received this and am giving it a go - so far I really love it! The concept is cool and clever. Basically it explains that to make the most of the simplicity of the book, you keep a stocked pantry of the ‘essentials’ – as in, like salt, pepper, olive oil, things like that. Since you’ll always have that stuff on hand, the six ingredients that are in the recipes then sometimes add in a dash of those - salt or butter, whatever pantry essentials, etc. to round it out. But don’t get lost in the numbers. What this is is a really beautiful cookbook with delicious recipes and great pics in it. And it has a cool hook.
The first thing I tried when I got it was the sticky ribs. Amazing. And then the steakhouse salad Tuesday night. The recipes are easy, and really good.
I’m sort of a cookbook addict, so I’m going to be playing in the kitchen this weekend, making lunches for the week ahead. Dying to try the sweet potato, lemongrass and cilantro soup, (he had me at sweet potato and sealed the deal with cilantro) and the almond fig roasted chicken. Really excited about the desserts, which are great for guests but not so difficult that you wouldn’t just make them for your family. We’re having people over so I’m going with the brandied cherries, I will probably make the molasses vanilla bean ice cream sandwiches soon too. The pictures are seductive. Anyway, the cookbook is fun and the recipes look great. I’d say give it a go!

I was intrigued by this cook book because as much as I'd like to cook, I'm usually too tired by the end of the day to bother. The idea of six ingredients, six minutes prep and six minutes clean up sounded perfect for someone like me so I thought I'd give it a go. What a great book! The recipes are fantastic and easy to follow, the pantry list is laid out but must haves and nice to have and honestly, I imagine most people would have most of the items on the must have lost as they're pretty standard even for the most average cook like myself. The pictures are gorgeous and everything looks delicious. I've tried one recipe so far, the angel hair, shrimp, tomato and lemon pasta - it was so good! The recipe was super easy to follow and it turned out so well, my dinner guests were very impressed. I look forward to trying out more recipes, I've never been more excited to cook! My stepmother is an avid cook and I plan on purchasing this book for her as a gift, I know she'll love it!

Some recipes are easy to work and taste good. Some have more than 6 ingredients. Good tips.

Many people have already mentioned they consider the title misleading, and it kind of is. I thought it was an actual six ingredient cookbook myself, at least before I used the "look inside" preview. But while all the recipes use more ingredients, I really haven't ever had to shop for more than six to make anything from this book. And all of the recipes really are quick and, for the most part, not complicated. Which is great for those nights when you have hangry toddlers demanding dinner NOW. And even more important, all of the recipes I have attempted from this book have been a success that I have gone on to cook on multiple occasions. I have dozens of cookbooks, most of which will get employed in the course of any given month. However, this has become my go to when I need something fast, simple, but still delicious.

I'm giving this book three stars because it's clear, well-written and easy to follow. That being said, there isn't much in it for me.

The reason that I bought The Quick Six Fix was because it promises 6-ingredient recipes. I'm on a hunt to find foods that are easy for busy people on a budget to whip up at any time. This book didn't help me with that, and I found the title to be deceptive. The cover and the description clearly say "six ingredients," and not "six KEY ingredients." The key ingredients do not include things that you are expected to have in your pantry.
I can understand basic staples like salt, pepper, sugar and oil not being considered ingredients, but soup stock, onions, wine, heavy cream, and 8 eggs aren't things that I'll necessarily have in my kitchen at any given time, even though they are easy to get. It's also odd that pasta and rice aren't considered ingredients in pasta dishes. It seems that most of the recipes actually have 10 to 13 ingredients. So If you've recently moved into your first apartment, or just haven't done a lot of cooking in the past, you may have to buy more than six items for each recipe.

Another thing that I found kinda annoying is that a handful of the items that truly do have around 6 ingredients were really written for dummies. For example, "A Manhattan Breakfast" is literally just a piece of bread with lox, cream cheese, a tomato, a cucumber and onions on top. The instructions are basically, "spread cream cheese on your bread, and then put the other stuff on top." I'm pretty sure that even if you're totally new to cooking, and you've never boiled water in your life, you know how to pile things onto a slice of bread. And that recipe took up two whole pages of the book! :)

This is quickly becoming my favorite cookbook...and I own A LOT of them. I'm a huge foodie, but I rarely have the time or stamina during the week to throw together foodie-type recipes with a gazillion ingredients or specialty items that I don't already have in my pantry. This book is my fix for that. As long as I keep my pantry stocked with the essentials listed (these are things I should keep anyway, not random things I'll only use once), then I'm all set to make a full-blown gourmet quality dinner in very little time, using very few ingredients. I can already tell that this is the type of cookbook that's going to keep me from just throwing up my hands during the week and ordering unhealthy, expensive takeout. So the added bonus is that I get to save some money and not struggle quite so hard at the gym during the week! Thanks, Chef Stuart O'Keefe! This is an amazing book!
