Product Description

About Fan-Tastic Vent: Fan-Tastic Vent was chartered as a stock corporation in 1984 and in 1985 began production of a 12-volt high efficiency ceiling fan in Burton, Michigan. In its first year the company employed 4 people and built approximately 2,000 fans. As sales continued to grow, the company moved to a larger facility in Capac, Michigan, in 1995. In an unfortunate turn of events, a devastating fire followed the move in January of 1997, resulting in a total loss. Incredibly, the company rebounded much faster than the industry or the community anticipated. In just eleven days Fan-Tastic Vent was able to resume production. In 2010, Fan-Tastic Vent was acquired by Atwood Mobile Products LLC, a leading supplier to the recreation vehicle industry. Today Fan-Tastic Vent continues to be one of the most recognized brand names in the industry and has sold over 3 million fans.

Fantastic in a School Bus Conversion
I knew I needed a good quality fan/vent in my project and that is why I bought this fantastic product! The fan moves a lot of air even on low and is pretty quiet on low. Turn it up if you really want a flow of air from the shaded side of your RV. It mounted and sealed good even on a slightly curved roof on the school bus, but adding extra putty tape to the low sides made it so it would not flex much. Even with slight bending when mounting on a curved roof this did not affect the fan operation in any way. The only reason I did not give this a 5 star rating is the manual lid likes to chatter and bounce when closing the lid. If you close it VERY slowly, it don't chatter as bad, but it's still annoying since I open and close it quite often.

I've had my eye on one of these for years. I bought the budget model because rain sensors, automatic up/down, remotes, 14 speeds, etc. seemed profoundly silly to me. I just need to suck the hot air out.

Here were my initial impressions when I got it.

    1. Whoa. Big.

    2. Wow. Metal mounting arms for the motor? Nice.

    3. This plastic is FAR tougher than my stock vent covers.

    4. That fan switch has a nice solid "click" to it.

    5. Only 2 wires? Cool. Easy.

    6. I want another one. How can this only cost $100-ish bucks? The vent alone runs close to $50.

Installation was too easy (how often does that happen?). The interior trim piece worried me but it's a simple score-bend-break job. They give you instructions. To test the fan before you install it just touch the wires to a light socket (12v interior light).

If, on the outside chance, you wanted the fan to blow in instead of out, just switch the +/- wires and there ya' go.

Most importantly, how does it feel? On a 25 foot Class C with the fan mounted in the back and the windows over the cab open, it just feels like a nice steady breeze passing through the cabin. It's that feeling you get around 2am with all the windows open when you just happen to park the rig the right way and you get that awesome evening air coming through the cab.

The reason I don't like the RV is I like fresh air and the A/C can be really drafty and harsh. In fact, I like sleeping under the stars. But this will make sleeping in the RV a real treat - comfort AND breeze.

Okay... way too excited about a fan. I shouldn't be surprised - they're well reviewed all over the Intertubes. But I was still surprised by the build quality and the amount of air it moved.

Nice product. Works well in our RV to get air circulation on calm days. The small rv bathroom fan is as loud or louder than this large 12" fan. I wired mine into the bathroom fan for a wall switch due to proximity and because both fans have there own off switch built in. The 3 speed motor is nice...and this fits nicely under my existing MaxAire roof vent covers.

This does not come with self leveling roof calk......you will need some for this install to make sure you get a water tight seal. Take out the original roof vent and removing the existing caulking is what takes 90% of the time. I spent a solid 4 hours doing this install. It is not difficult....but the calking removal is very time consuming. Other than that, everything drops right in place and looks good.

We replaced the roof vent in our 2003 Pleasure Way RV with this model. The reason I said "reliable" is the 17-year-old vent we removed was also Fan-Tastic and when we removed it, we found a loose wire. After fixing it, the fan worked fine. However, we went ahead and replaced the unit with this new model since we had it. It was a simple switch using Butyl sealant tape and self-leveling caulking on top. One caution is that our RV is a van conversion with fiberglass on top. The new inside plastic trim piece was too deep for our vehicle. We just used the one that was with our old fan and it worked fine.

I've come to write anyone who's got questions a great and helpful review. First off let me say I don't know everything and I wing it. I did a very basic install and placed this on the roof of an old van. Measure the width and length of the fan if you need to cut a hold in your roof. NOT the base. The white wire needs to be mounted to the body of whatever it's running in. Be it a van or a pull behind trailer. If your running solar your batteries or somewhere down the line must be mounted to the body as well. I chose to run a battery cable from the negative terminal on my solar battery to the body of my van. This will prevent failure/fire/sparks/ the whole nine yards. Now as for how much air this sucker moves. It's a lot. My vans not insulated but with my doors open on a hot 100 degree day it's comfortably in the 80s with a nice breeze. I couldn't but when considering mounting options it's best to place it closest to where you sleep. Leave a window down to get a good draft. Was it worth the price? Absolutely. It's going to be a little noisy on the highest setting but it's wayyy quieter than other models you could be getting.

No rv roof vent is easy to install. Works well but does not move much air at lower settings. It is a nice fan, however we installed a fantastic fan on our last rv and it was a much better item.

I updated our OEM bathroom fan a few months ago after hating it for so many years. Why did it take so long? great question and it was one that after having done it and experienced the difference, makes me say "why did we wait so long".

    Pros:
    * significantly quieter!
    - we can fun the fan on high in the bathroom all night and it is barely noticeable in the rest of the trailer
    * Huge improvement in air flow movement
    - Taking a show with the fan on no longer fogs up the bathroom mirror
    - you can feel a substantial flow of air being drawn from the rest of the trailer thru the bottom of the door
    - Moisture in the trailer during cool nights or due to kitchen cooking is gone as long as the fan is on drawing air flow
    - Less need for the AC unit in the evenings

    Cons:
    - a little pricey, but not for what you get
    - Have a bit of work on the roof to get the old caulking off

This is a great fan and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Very good quality fan and easy to install. Good instructions and works well. One minor issue is it has a little bit of a whine which my other fan does not have. Bought to replace the bathroom fan which was much noisier and not the high volume type. Can live with the whine to have the better volume as we only use it when we shower.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very happy. But get maxair if you want to drive with it open.

Installation is hard. But they make it as easy as they can. Product is great. The winder feels a little flimsy to me but works flawlessly. Wiring it with a DPDT switch is worth the extra time, to allow it to extract as well. I can see why people prefer maxair for the ability to drive with it open. I'd probably buy that instead. But I like how low profile it is. Fan is loud on max but tolerable on lower settings. Pushes a lot of air.

Reviewed in Canada on August 3, 2020
This isn't my first Fan-tastic Fan I've installed a couple in past RV's. I wanted to replace the crappy little vent/fans that come standard in most RV bathroom vents, which are mostly useless. Fan-Tastic Fans work, they pull lots of air. When you turn it on even at low levels, you can feel air being sucked under the bathroom door. In this application I didn't need anything more than the basic fan, so didn't go for reversible or auto open. The vent is nice and bright, letting in lots of light, and really helps keep the upper portion of our 5th wheel cool in hot weather.
