Meet the Makers: Travis and Joyce Miller
Travis and Joyce Miller of Clarke County, VA, share a passion for wildcrafting from the nature of Virginia, and established Falling Bark Farm as their retirement project. There, they create syrup from the foraged bark of shagbark hickory trees.
As part of the syrup-making process, the Millers gather their bark, toast it to enhance the flavor and then put it through a proprietary extraction process. From there, the syrup is aged, filtered and mixed with minimally refined cane sugar to develop its exquisite taste.
Hickory bark is the highest plant source of magnesium, and for centuries, Native Americans have used hickory bark extract for its healing properties, most notably as a treatment for arthritis.
