Great product! Requires some Patience/ and Tech Savvy
This is a great product and has many capabilities. I am not new to the Amcrest product line as I am private security consultant. In my last job I installed the Amcrest UltraHD 3-Megapixel (2048 x 1536P) 8Ch Network POE Video Security System (NVR Kit) - Four 3MP POE Outdoor Bullet IP Cameras, 98ft Night Vision, 2TB HDD, Power over Ethernet (Black) with four cameras. The client came back and said I want three more cameras in addition to the four that came in the kit. This NVR (Network Video Recorder) handles them great. Amcrest does a great job with their Poe line of cameras. Their Poe line of NVR 's have either a 4/8/ or 16 port 10/100 switch, 8 in this case, that supports the industry standard of 802.3 AF. For most people this doesn't matter, but it's worth noting. Everytime I have plugged in an amcrest Poe camera the onbaord switch has had no probles powering them and showing an image and giving them an IP address usng its own subnet with DHCP.Onto the hard drive, this specific model has a 2 terabyte Seagate model in it (see attached photo.) If you go about reading reviews on the standalone Amcrest NVR/ DVR recorders people say "I didn't get a hard drive!" This is true, if you buy one of their standalone recorders they do NOT include a hard drive for a couple reasons. One: you choose your model and brand of wanted hard drive. For me/ my clients I steer them towards western digital purple series as these are engineered for high write rates (recording) as opposed to engineered for quickly reading (watching the footage). Secondly, it brings the price down for you at the time of purchase. I don't have to tell you that quality security products aren't cheap and these are far from the most expensive. IF you reaaally want to spend some money check out axis, honeywell, bosch, panasonic etc. Amcrest (previosuly branded Foscam) ARE good cameras, but are NOT the professional pieces like those aforementioned. For those that are interested what's under the hood, or other ports, and or plugs, I have attached photos of what is on and in the chasis(remove four screws and top comes off to acess hard drive etc.)Overal I LOVE the Amcrest brand and their whole line of Poe/ network video products. They have had calls from me about RMA's and returns and warranties, and I have also exchanged propmt emails with them and have ALWAYS been happy. Their csutomer service is bar none! I have eead reviews about people waitingg on hold, etc, however their website does list their sucustomertomer service phone hours, and the time zone for them.At this point you're probably thinking this dude has to be paid or even worse, work for them, but surprisingly I don't. I just honestly love this brand of products and am generally 95% happy with the products and always 100% happy with the customer service.the ONLY thing that they could improve that I see right now is a dome or bullet varifocal ip camera. For most of their outdoor ip cameras you have an 81-95 degree viewing angel, which is great for large specific areas. However you may have only one area you want to view and it be far off, or a certain doorwayor object. Therefore that is what I would reccomend, definitely not anything to take a star off for. If amcrest roll those out I will definitely be a buyer.Overall LOVE LOVE LOVE Amcrest!!

Based on about 2 weeks worth of usage:

The video quality is excellent. The night vision is pretty amazing. I love the fact that I can stick the NVR in an out of view corner in my basement but still view the video from the computer in our kitchen. You can even configure almost all of the settings from the computer.

I initially couldn't figure out how to remotely connect to the device (needed to use IE instead of Edge) so I contacted Amcrest's customer service. They were very helpful and responded in a reasonable amount of time.

My only complaint is that the user manual isn't really worth reading. It's basically just a book full of screen shots with short descriptions that don't help me understand the purpose or functions of the features. I can pretty much guess on just about everything so it's not that big of a deal, but when I do have questions, the manual isn't helpful.

Purchased this 3MP Network POE Amcrest Security Camera System. I am not pleased with it at all so far. I only had it installed about 4 days ago and it has not worked correctly since it was installed.
The system does not function or do anything that I purchased the system for. It was purchased so I can get alert via email with a photo snap shot of possible intruders, and to be able to see the intruders on my Cell phone. The App hasn't worked at all, it is horrible(more on that later). Whenever the camera system is turned on without being plugged into my router via Ethernet the cameras do work, ie they come on and I can see perfectly even at night. However, whenever I intentionally trigger an alarm, the NVR does not record properly. It will record regular video from the cameras, but I don't want the camera to do that. I only want the system to record motion detection triggered alarm events. It will record everything, but will not save it as a motion detection event.

Also, yes there is more.... whenever I plug into my router via Ethernet, the system completely messes up. It will automatically shut off without with just the warning "saving" then it will shut down and reboot. When it reboots it will say "Updating Cloud Storage" and then it will immediately shut down. Then it will reboot, and for an extremely brief second a message will be on the screen too fast to read, and then it will display "saving' again and immediately shut down, and reboot. Originally I thought it was doing some kind of update so I just let it do that for hours on end. The I realized, this model doesn't have cloud storage, what the heck? So for the third time I called Amcrest which seems to have off shore support, which is fine when you can understand them. I believe they are in India perhaps, and the accent is so strong that I can hardly understand them and constantly am apologizing asking them to repeat. They are extremely nice and very patient. Now you know why the Cell phone app doesn't work. If the system can't connect to my network or the internet, then I won't be able to connect via the cell phone.

I am a trained network administrator so I do know quite a bit about networks and how they work. Still I must say, that the owner's manual is pretty confusing. When I told Amcrest today of the rebooting loop, don't know what else to call it, they informed me that they are aware of the problem, and said they are working to fix it. They also said they will call me back tomorrow to discuss the matter with me. I will greatly be surprised if that actually happens, but will give them the benefit of the doubt until they make good on that promise.

I really just wanted to make people aware that there is a firmware problem with the NV4108E model which is an 8 channel system with 4 bullets. I believe this is a very new model. When I went to the support page it had no firmware updates.

I will post more tomorrow night, April 11th 2016 and tell you how the call back and technical help has gone. Until then fellow Amazon consumers.

Update April 12th 2016....Ok, as expected they did not call me to correct the problem with the NVR model 4108E. There is a reason for this. Because there is no fix for it. They have had this piece of merchandise out on the market for almost a year, and know that it has issues which keep it from working properly. Just look at the firmware updates on this product. Surprise! there are none. It is the same version 1 that came out last May to June time frame.

Now I am out $300 that I paid to install this product that doesn't work, and I also have four holes that have been drilled into the sides of my house. When I suggested that Amcrest give me a different model that is POE, they misinformed me that this is the only NVR model that uses POE. WHat? There are all kinds of models that use POE sold by Amcrest. Why would they openly misinform or lie about that? That is when I started doing some more research and read a bunch of reviews. It seems the product description has been changed on the product I purchased to hide bad reviews?

There are people who have purchased this item to be told by Amcrest that we will help you work on the issues that are giving you fits, ie fix the firmware issue, and they keep waiting and stalling until the 30 day return period passes and they are stuck with a device that doesn't work. The firmware is not going to be fixed, if it hasn't been fixed in a years time! They told me we will call you back tomorrow when the firmware issue is resolved our people are aware of it and are working on it. Well, no phone call, and the firmware has been the same since this product was released about a year ago.

I demanded they give me permission in writing to keep the cameras installed to at least have a presence of a security camera system to would be thieves and also to cover up the holes. This is also to cover the cost of installing the system ($300). I also gave them the option of going to court, ie being sued by me if keeping the cameras from the kit is an issue. I will definitely win. They are intentionally providing a product on Amazon that they know does not properly work. Being a retired law enforcement officer, I know that is what is called a criminal offense.

Stay away from the NV4108E model from Amcrest, and pay special attention to what NVR's come with your kits you order.

Update October 2017: Reporting back that Amcrest has finally worked an issue out regarding the disk drive matter, thanks to efforts by Carlos and others at Amcrest. Adding some stars to my review. Still awaiting a resolution to the perceived firmware issue.

Prior Update:
The hardware seems decently manufactured, but their firmware updates are infrequent and when they do come out it's been my experience that they cause problems. I've been working for several months to get problems with this system resolved. Unfortunately both their Techinical Support and RMA Department have been unable to resolve issues with their NVR equipment and have been unwilling to make it right for the customer. I sent in the NVR for an RMA replacement since Tech Support could not resolve my issues (serious problems with the unit after updating the firmware).

I sent the unit back with the bundled WD 2TB Purple Surveillance hard drive installed (a good dependable drive), as it had been purchased. The refurbished NVR returned was diskless. I contacted Amcrest and pointed out that they forgot to return the drive. I had to wait nearly another week for a disk to be received. What I got was a cheap, low-end Seagate drive that has many, many complaints on Amazon as being unreliable and prone to break down quickly. AND the replacement NVR, with the same suspect firmware installed, had the same issues as the one returned. I tried to get Amcrest to make this right by replacing the drive with what I returned. Another week of emails and I'm finally told they will not replace my drive, which I paid for, like-for-like due to their policies.

All of these problems were caused by Amcrest, who are unwilling to make it right for their customer due to their policies. So I now have an NVR with problems and a sub-standard disk drive that I have no doubt will fail soon, and Amcrest will provide no further support or make this right. Do you wish to do business with a company like this? Do you want to spend hundreds of dollars and be told that they can't help you due to their policies? I was willing to wait for another firmware update to see if the problems were resolved. I simply wanted the same model of drive returned to make me sufficiently satisfied. Instead I am here warning others about this company and its policies. Avoid Amcrest and it's products unless you enjoy frustration and wasting your money.

We paid over seven hundred dollars for this system and it's really quite awful. I spend hours to get it working and then it just quits. The software is completely unintuitive and it's just so difficult to figure out how to do what you need to do with it. I recommend looking elsewhere for a camera system.
