Product Description

The Breville BES920BSXL Dual Boiler in Black Sesame offers commercial features and performance, in a domestic footprint. Espresso perfection requires precision temperature and pressure control, consistently, every time. At the heart of this machine is its dual stainless steel boiler heating system. The espresso boiler, for the espresso shot, is PID temperature controlled, while a separate steam boiler offers instant and powerful steam on demand. So you can extract your shot at the right temperature, delivering optimal flavor, while simultaneously steaming your milk to cafe quality. What's more, there is another element in the group head, ensuring the entire system maintains a consistent temperature. The Dual Boiler also features an Over Pressure Valve (OPV) which limits the maximum pressure throughout the extraction, preventing bitter flavors in the shot. It also offers a true low pressure pre-infusion, which gradually increases the pressure to gently expand the grinds for an even extraction. But there's much more to this machine for the coffee geek. Brew temperature and pre-infusion pressure and duration are all programmable. At the same time we've kept it simple with user-friendly features. An optional Auto Start setting preheats the machine at a programmed time; a top-fill 84 oz. (2.5L) water tank ensures easy access; and the dedicated hot water outlet makes it faster to preheat cups and prepare an Americano. There is also a shot clock and pressure gauge to help you improve your barista skills over time. The new Dual Boiler now includes a descaling function for cleaning at home, a Razor Dosing Tool for precision dosing and consistent extraction, plus a 2 year limited warranty. All you'll need are some freshly ground beans and a bit of practice to rival the best cafe.

25 customers mention8 positive17 negative

Customers are mixed about the performance of the coffee maker. Some mention that it's easy to use and produces great results every time, while others say that the steamer stopped working altogether, rendering the machine unusable. The tendency for these machines to fail is a pretty big ding, as the solenoid failed and needed to be replaced, and the main boiler malfunctioned after six months. It also rarely behaves the same from cup to cup even though they use the exact same. This seems to be a reoccurring issue with this model, and running the descaling cycle will prevent this.

At first a leaky submarine, now a brewing machine!
========================| Update 2015-04-05 (changing to 4 out of 5 from 1 star)========================Per my original review, Breville is having some Quality Assurance issues with these units. You do have to be lucky to get a good unit on the first try. Hopefully my issues and misfortunes will help others avoid them so they really can enjoy this unit. After all my troubles, I contacted Breville to report the issue. They tried to convince me it was human\user error and wanted to charge me to send it in for service. I hung up and contacted Amazon who actually let me return it for free and purchase the same unit. We have been using the same unit for 6 months with very little issues. Here are updated observations:**********The Good**********1) The double boiler is fantastic to fill with cold water, brew a cup, and steam all at the same time. Awesome!2) Filling the tank is easy from the top of the unit.3) Love the ability to do a single or double brew.4) The unit will tell you when the pressure is in the sweet spot for a nice brew. It really is great!**********The Bad**********1) The foaming wand does not froth well. To ensure it wasn't "user error" we tried several foaming methods and different ways to hold the milk. As other reviewers stated, it foams slow and there isn't much pressure behind it.2) Even though you can self-descale or clean this unit, compared to others, it is still hard to clean it with a single tablet. After several flushes the unit was clean and worked like new again.3) Customer Service are nice up-front, but when you tell them you had issues, even show them the video, they shut down and go to a script.========================| Original Review========================This unit has rave reviews and i have talked to people who love it, but mine, right out of the box, was a leaky disaster!Research is the #1 game when it comes to Espresso machines. Double Boilers vs. Heat Exchangers. No- Burn Steam wands vs. Burn. E61 Brew heads, so on and so forth. This unit is very expensive, but you aren't going to BELIEVE what happened next.1) Unboxed unit2) Followed the Quick Start Guide3) Hit the ON button4) LEAKS! All over the place. Above the Brew Head, at the top where the hot water pipe connects to the machine, and around the Steam Wand Bolt========================</eol>

5.0 out of 5 stars High Quality Expresso Machine
Reviewed in Canada on October 20, 2017
Great value for a quality dual boiler stainless steel expresso machine. This machine has two stainless steel boilers and functions just like professional units costing more than twice the price. It also has many Pro features like: Electronic PID Temperature Control, Regulated Extraction Pressure, Low Pressure Pre-infusion, Dual pumps, Programmable Shot Temperature and Shot Clock to name a few. All of this to help you make the perfect shot. Quality stainless steel construction throughout. I like the 58mm (standard size) portafilter and the heated group head. The removable water tank holds 3 litres of water and can be filled without removing it by adding water through an access port at the top front of the unit. The drip tray holds up to 1 litre of overflow before it require emptying.
I highly recommend this unit if you enjoy expresso the way it should be made. It comes with one Charcoal water filter and and a couple of Expresso Cleaning Tablets Charcoal filter should be replaced every two months or less depending on your water quality.
