Prior to buying this Stanley Groove Joint Pliers, I was a little concerned about the negative reviews, almost all of which stated that the tool broke on the first use. But I went ahead and ordered it anyway and it turned out to be a very high quality tool, both in the "fit and finish" and in function. It's one of the tools I used when I did some work on my old junker (thermostat replacement, hose replacements, and other maintenance). No breakage! YAY!
Curious about the negative reviews, I went back to look through them again and noticed that, interestingly, most of these were written between mid 2013 to early 2014 (The tool has been sold since 2009). I surmised there had to be a bad batch of these tools that somehow slipped through quality control.
If you're on the fence because you're concerned about the negative reviews, I'd recommend that you swing for it anyway. If you get a bad copy of the tool, simply exchange it with Amazon. (Just make sure you buy DIRECT from Amazon, not from a third party seller. Amazon makes the return/exchange of defective products hassle-free and there's no charge for return shipping.)
