Layla nearly gets hit by a car and the man who saved her made her body feels things that she hadn’t felt in a while, although she denies dinner with her knowing he could destroy her.
Waiting for a friend a few weeks later, she’s surprised when he shows up to save her again but from a drunk in the bar hitting on her, before he leaves he gives her a kiss to show her what he wants and his phone number.
Carter never thought he would ever see Layla again after the mistake of giving her his old phone number, when he gets a call from his brother to clean up his mess again and sees her at his house, pregnant with his brother’s baby, he’s brother tells him to deal with it. Carter knows something is stopping Leyla and she has walls up, but he realises she truly thinks she doesn’t deserve to be happy.
They go through so much and Carter wants to fix everything and prove to Layla that she deserves the happily ever after that she doesn’t believe she deserves.

Enjoyed this book as a nice light romantic read. Serendipity is the name of the game for Layla and Carter. He saves her life, after which she runs off after saying a quick thanks. He then bumps into her in a bar a few days later, and accidently gives her his old phone number, having just changed his the day before. Several years later he heads back home after being away foe work to find Layla living in his house as flatmate to his brother Travis, but as luck would have it, she is also pregnant with Travis' child after a drunken one-night encounter. His brother wants nothing to do with the child and Carter is still mesmerised by Layla - their chemistry unmistakable, but now Layla isn't willing to act on it. As the book progresses, Travis takes off and Carter takes his time to win Layla's trust and love. Its a sweet yet somewhat predictable storyline. The return of Travis and exposure of Layla's past add some drama towards the end, but the HEA is still there with promise for the future. The epilogue is set 3 years into the future and sees them living as a happy family. I did think the outcome for Travis seemed a little too convenient for their HEA - there were other ways that could have been done with a better outcome for all.

Wow this is the first book that ive read by Author C.M. Seabrook, it was recommended to me by Michelle Underwood and I'm so glad i took a chance on it . I really enjoyed this story about heartache, love, abandonment trust and second guessing one's self.

Carter and Layla finely got there happily ever after but the way fate brought these two together was a hard start to what ended becoming a love story that Layla had only ever read about in her books . Carter saved Layla both litterally and Figuratively. Two lonely souls who had no idea what was going to be in store for them .

I love happily ever afters to go through such heartache and loss to get to the end together in love , happy and grateful is the icing on the cake. I highly recommend this book it gives you all the feels in all the right places .

There are a plethora of great books in the Indie World and I think this is definitely another one of them!

Carter Bennett, Bad Boy Hockey player since he turned 17, has played at the top levels for eleven years, but for him, the last four years have been the worst. His parents died, and while he had his hockey to carry on with, his 17 year old brother didn’t. Then through devastating injury, Hockey is also taken away.

Travis Bennett, Carter’s younger brother, blames life circumstances for his sh!tty existence, made even worse by bad choices, blaming everyone else for what is wrong in his life. Most of all, he blames Carter, and expects Carter to clean up his messes to keep him out of trouble. And this latest mess involves his house-mate, the girl that Carter never really had a chance to know, and, never forgot about.

A year ago, he had saved a stunning young woman’s life by pulling her out of the way of the traffic she didn’t see because she was reading as she walked. The next night, he saves her from a drunken pickup attempt as she reads at the bar while waiting for a friend. They talk. She’s written a book, he wants to help and gives her his number as she is being dragged off by the friend. It is only as they are gone, he realises it was his old number, as it had just been changed in preparation for his new job in New York, as a sports journalist for a second rate-magazine. He needed it though, not financially, but as a way to stay in with the sport he loved. He can’t believe that mistake cost his chance with her.

Now coming home to clean up Travis’ latest mess he realises that it involves the stunning young woman, and is gutted: “She was supposed to be mine. The thought comes unbidden, from a primal part of my brain...I’m used to life throwing curve balls, but this one I didn’t see coming.”
Layla, bought up by over-protective and extremely religious parents, has her own past demons, that ensured she withstood a chance against Travis’ constant barrage of sexual approaches. One night of alcohol results in consequences that send Travis running. Carter sees this as his opportunity to step up and claim the woman he never had a chance to know the first time. Carter may not be the perfect book boyfriend, but this gorgeous man has morals and wants to have his chance with Layla: “I have a deal of my own. One that will finally make her mine.”

Trouble is, she’s not easy, and Travis has his own issues with his older brother.

I love second chance romances, and CM Seabrook has written one that for me has been a re-read. I recommend it to all who love this genre, especially when it involves a hot ex-hockey player. 4.5 Stars.

This had me hooked from the very first scene. Carter is seriously hot and the electricity between him and Layla jumps off the page. Despite walking away she regrets not being able to contact him after their first kiss. When they meet again it's in the worst of circumstances. Can Carter convince her he's serious when Layla's fighting between her head ,heart and her own demons. Not so much pulls at the heartstrings but rips them out and tosses them across the room several times.
