There are a few differences between the 2016 and this 2017 version.
Cons: the plastic zippered pouch is no longer there, the folder is single card stock instead of doubled
Pros: the interchangeable covers now have a "whiteboard" on the inside (lined in front, unlined in back)
Neutral: different decorative and color schemes
I was able to successfully snip out the plastic zippered pouch from my 2016 and add it to my 2017--having said that, I use it very rarely and am not sure it is necessary. I recommend the Erin Condren Elastic Bands (but hairbands probably work too), the Staedtler triplus fineliner pens, planner stamps (I like Technique Tuesday), and a small magnetic bookmark.
Who should buy this? Visual people who use paper calendars, lists, and post-its heavily.

The paper quality was not particularly good--flat white, and the printing on the opposite side shows through a bit, so I imagine that ink would, too.
I also missed having some guidelines for writing in the spaces--they are entirely blank.
I was not crazy about the overall organization, either: I prefer continuous week, but this has the monthly calendars plopped in between (with tabs). The cover was pretty enough, but it the shiny laminated plastic felt cheap. These are largely personal preferences, though.
The real dealbreaker for me, however, was the binding. The spiral is HUGE, around two inches in diameter, far larger than the thickness of the book. It looks out of proportion and gets in the way of your arm when you're writing. This is not something you can really glean from the Amazon description, so I've added a photo. More troubling still was the fact that it's a standard coil spiral--the wire runs in one continuous loop, making it much more difficult to turn pages than it is with a quality comb binding (as is used on most other planners I've used, including the MomAgenda and the ActionDay planner). I'm super fussy about my planner, since I interface with it all day long, all year long. I'm returning it.

1. I really like that I got the personalized cover.
2. There are more stickers included and you can choose a different layout option; when I purchased this they only had horizontal and I didn't know enough about my preferences yet.
3. There is a nice pocket to keep things with your planner and it includes some nicer gift labels and a coil attachment so you can snap it onto the planner if you like.
4. This may just be my memory versus what I'm holding now, but the paper feels nicer, as does the cover. It feels more heavily weighted, possibly.
5. A perpetual calendar book - to keep in a pocket on the back, but it lets you list all your birthdays/fixed date things easily and move it from planner to planner.
If none of those things bother you, saving $10 or $15 plus shipping may make sense to buy it on Amazon. However, I had a code and saved a bit on the EC website, so to me, the fact that I got a planner that is for the rest of this year plus next, and had the nicer extras was more than worth the $15 more I spent on my new one.
Obviously shipping speed is another bonus buying with Amazon, but since I have been doing without for a couple months while I searched for my old one I was ok with the two week wait from the website.
