Product Description
Product Description
Zinsser Bulls-Eye Shellac Spray is designed to provide a natural, mid-gloss finish that will not change over time. Apply on interior walls, doors, trim, cabinets, furniture, and other paintable surfaces to block odor. Protective sealant spray can be used on various tools, golf clubs, wood toys, glass, ceramic tile and other surfaces. Clean up tools, drips and spills with denatured alcohol or household ammonia and water.
From the Manufacturer
Bulls Eye Shellac is an alcohol-based solution of lac, a natural resin. Dries transparent with a faint, golden cast that is much lighter than oil-base varnishes. Offers many advantages over other clear finishes: it's easy to use, dries quickly, is non-toxic when dry and cleans up easily with ammonia and water.

1. It does work very well if you want a shellac finish. Hard to believe, but true. Just don't use a heavy coat, and no more than 2 coats in any event (except #3 below). You may decide to sand most of a coat off to make a rough surface extra smooth.
2. As an undercoat (except never for polyurethanes) it cannot be beat. Properly sand the item and get the stain correct. Lightly dust it a couple of times, wait 30 minutes, then use steel wool extremely lightly. Allow it to dry 30" more. You will avoid wrinkles and such in your finish coat of lacquer (apply two thin dusts of lacquer before the real lacquer coats). You can use stains that are otherwise incompatible (such as water based stains with lacquer). You can use it to seal wallboard.
3. You can apply it very thinly over a tint coating, when you are using multiple tints for effect, similar to #2. Traditionally, you use a non-areosol can of shellac to make up each very thin tinted layer. The spray protects each layer.
This dries about as quickly as lacquer cures. It is shinier than medium gloss lacquer. You could "french" a top coat of regular shellac for the ultimate finish. Shellac is not for outdoor use. The aerosol is very easy to use. It is clearer than poly.
