⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
So there’s really no spoilers in this review ( unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past 8 years), I loved the Fifty Shades franchise from the very first book, but it has been a long time since I’ve enjoyed reading it again. Still it makes me happy. Fifty was the second book I had read even from at school, I think it was the story responsible for my deep love of reading now!
So we know the Christian and Ana story, this one was Christian’s POV, and although it opened a little more into his past and his future I kind it felt it was just a rewrite of the original story with a little more thrown in. Now I didn’t expect to see none of the story I just wanted more grit… his childhood, his thoughts each day, his work…. It was just a bit lacking in my opinion! But you can’t win em all, and it certainly won’t stop me reading Freed, I’m hanging for the Jack bit!!!!
Well, that’s it for me, I’m off to Amazon for Freed! Laters Baby
Do you realize how difficult it is for James to come up with stuff? She had to mirror Ana's POV and dialogue otherwise we'd have a different story. She was so generous to gift us with all of this because many of us loved this couple so much and always will. Be grateful people.
Now, my opinion and I was not gifted a copy nor am I a friend of James' however, I love Christian after this read more so now than ever. He is so vulnerable in Darker, so lovable, so intelligent yet immature in other areas like a scared little boy. As a mother of five sons, James' words when Christian admits to himself wanting Grace his adoptive mother to hold him and when he realizes she really does love him, just beautiful and heartfelt as a mother of 5 sons. These are not womens words as someone wrote in there 1 or 2* review, claiming he sounds like a woman, this is a man's perspective and yes they do feel too, just because they're not all so emotional or forthcoming with their feelings or thoughts doesn't mean they don't have them and that some men or boys don't express them. Christian went through a lot as a child from birth to four, then through 15 years old he was angry, didn't speak for sometime after the adoption until Mia came into their home, let's not forget the brawls and being expelled from schools... Elena not only lures him into sex but she physically abuses him as well. His thoughts are not going to be of the normal man because let's face it, a normal man would not have been through what he has. Take him out of that category and please stop judging James so harshly. I, for one, am so grateful that she's gifted us with MORE, I hope it keeps coming. I'd love another book with their future including all of their children and Elliot and Kate's but I doubt we'll get it because, truthfully, writing what James does is not an easy trade.
$10 for the Kindle download, sorry but IMO it's worth it. I knew going in what we were getting...did you not read Grey? Same thing. I. Loved. It!!! All of the conversations I wondered about James gave us his words and thoughts. I especially love the words with Grace and Elena, I seriously would love to kick Elena's butt!!! If one of my friend's did that to one of my sons?! I won't even go there.
I loved Grey, but Darker surpassed it. OMG, being in his head. It was painful seeing him as an angry man, who still had that frightened little boy within him, who couldn’t get close to anyone, who was so scared of being touched, he wouldn’t sleep with anyone, for fear they might touch him in their sleep, and his need to tie up women so they couldn’t put their hands on him during sex.
Watching him fall in love. Feeling so vulnerable and insecure because he’d never felt before, the way he feels for Ana. His fear of losing her. His self hatred and sadly not being able to see the good man he really was. I loved seeing him blossom under the gentle touch and love of Ana. I loved everything about this book. It was such an emotional read. I couldn’t get enough and hated it when I came to the end of this book. I can’t wait for the author to write Freed from his POV. Well, I hope she writes it. I can honestly say, that after having read the original trilogy 17 times, that the books from Christian’s POV are my favourites. I think for anyone who misjudged Christian and accused him of being a cold, arrogant man who was abusive towards women, they should really read the books from his POV. He is not cold or arrogant, or abusive. He is a man who had a horrific start to life, who learnt over the years to cope the only way he knew how. He unfortunately was introduced to sex by the wrong kind of person, but it taught him a way he could be in control, something so important to him. Something I understood because when you have no control as a child, you crave it as an adult.
Ana certainly turns Christian on his head. Everything that is familiar to him and helps him cope is gone, and yet, he takes to his new lifestyle so well. This is an incredible love story. It’s the love story between a damaged young man and the woman who comes into his life and loves him, flaws and all. Who slowly but surely shows him there is another way and who teaches him to love, and to start to at least like himself. I LOVED everything about Darker.
