This book will have you thirsty, not only because part of it is set in the coolest bar you can imagine, but also because it is incredibly hot and steamy! I just love these two characters and am so glad they got together. You feel like you know both of them, and are constantly rooting for them even when all the twists and turns spin them around. So Screwed by Melissa Marino is the second book in her Bad Behavior series. This book is told in dual POV and a standalone within the series. This is Evelyn and Abel's story.

Evelyn is best friends with Callie from the first book. She is a wedding planner with high career aspirations and no time for a relationship. When Abel begins to pursue her she begins to realize the man she is getting to know is so very different from the man everyone else describes. She sees who he is at his core and it starts to get scarily close to relationship status for her liking.

Abel is brother to Aaron from the first book. With his brother now in a relationship with Callie it is inevitable that he is around her best friend, Evelyn, more often. The beautiful woman pulls at a part of his playboy soul that never before has been even glimpsed. He gives so much of himself to her but he is still holding back a secret.

This book takes a crazy turn in the drama department just past halfway through and it gets really rough for Callie AND Abel there for a while. They get their happy ending but it is hard earned.

I happened to stumble across this book while browsing on Net Galley awhile back. I loved the cover, loved the blurb and loved that this was a new to me author. I took a chance and it paid off. This book was outstanding! Now, I did not read the first book, SO TWISTED, but I could follow along ok. However, I would suggest reading it before reading SO SCREWED.

Abel, an aspiring teacher working as a bartender at WET, a secret speakeasy, and Evelyn, a wedding event planner should NOT be together. Abel is Evelyn’s best friend’s boyfriend’s brother (say that three times fast) and he wants her, BAD. Evelyn knows the right thing to do would be to stay as far away from him as possible but we’re all entitled to a little fun, right?

Abel is one of those “one look and he’ll have your panties on the floor” kind of guy. Evelyn, who was independent and a hard worker was also a “boxer-dropping” kind of gal. I love that she did just what he did and had no qualms about it!! Usually, the guy who is the “manwhore” so to speak, is interested in a simple, virginal girl. I LOVED that this wasn’t the case! Girl could give it out just as good as he could!

Evelyn called Abel out on everything which was fantastic. At times, I don’t think he knew what to do with her. Their banter was easy, their sex was incredible and they just balanced each other out so well. They both had their insecurities but sometimes I think Abel was so much more insecure, it broke my heart.

“I want to do everything better for you”

This story did not go in the direction I thought it would take. I figured something would go down, but nothing prepared me for what I read. Secrets in a relationship never end well and boy did Abel have plenty of them. I got to a certain point in the book where all I did was try to hold back the tears, which came anyway. I was completely heartbroken. A strong, cocky and confident man on the outside who was completely broken on the inside, it just did me in. I just wanted to fix him. Make him see what a good man he was. I think this story resonated with me so much because Abel and Evelyn have such a similar relationship to what my husband and I had in the beginning, it was like reading my life story from 20 years ago. Hell, all these years later and I think that I have finally shown that broken man that he’s not as ruined as he thinks he is.

The only fault I find in this book is when I hit that last page, I was looking for more. I was hoping for just a sneak peek if you will into their lives a few months down the road. All in all, this book was a great read and I will be going back in for a re-read along with purchasing the first book in the series.

This was a difficult read for me. Having got so involved in Twisted to the point that I had to keep reading it again and again to persuade myself the ending worked, I knew the formula and kept stopping reading Screwed waiting for the boot to fall.......well thanks to liberal doses of antacid tablets I got through it. Brilliant book! I will now read it again knowing that Abel wins his love! I rooted for you all the way through Abel, and I have to accord Melissa the accolade of writer par excellence! I love the evidence that you visualize every setting, bringing in little vignettes to solidify the scene. Not sure I could manage another Bad Behaviour for a while though. Too intense, too wonderful, too gripping.
