When shooting video, the system selects from Dynamic IS, Powered IS, Macro (Hybrid) IS and Active Tripod IS modes. |

Compatible with Connect Station CS100The PowerShot SX530 HS camera is compatible with Canon's photo and video storage device: the Canon Connect Station CS100. By simply tapping with NFC, photos and videos are wirelessly transferred to the Connect Station CS100, where up to 1 TB of hard drive space6 and simple menus make them easy to store, manage and sort. Filter choices are grouped into Retro, Monochrome, Special and Natural categories for easy access, or simply select Auto to use the full range of effects. |
Hybrid AutoHybrid Auto records up to four seconds of video every time you shoot a still image, then automatically joins the clips and pictures7 into a video. This mode automatically recognizes the scene and optimizes camera settings to capture the highest possible image quality. The resulting 1080p HD video is properly exposed, crisp and steady for a stunningly beautiful highlight reel. Smart AUTO automatically detects and analyzes scenes so the camera can make optimal settings to help ensure the best possible image capture, whether you're shooting stills or video. As far as quality of the camera itself goes, I think it is great. As a person who doesn't know much about photography, it has a ton of setting on it to make your pictures look however you want them to. Yet I still didn't feel it was overly-complicated so that I didn't feel comfortable using it (that is, if you read the instruction manual before-hand, which I highly recommend, as I learned a ton about features I had no idea existed!)
The battery life on it was very much enough for us. We spent all day every day at the parks with it, turning it on whenever we were taking a picture and turning it off when we weren't, and it only died on us on one day. We bought seperately a pack of extra batteries for it, so if you're going to be a crazy heavy user of it in one day, there is a solution for that problem.
Overall, I really loved this camera. It did exactly what we wanted it to do. Took nice quality photos of our vacation, for a really decent price. Much better than any of those compact digital cameras I've ever used, but probably not as good as any fancy DSLR camera a photography hobbyist would have. Anyone who is looking for professional quality or something really really fancy in a camera, you may be disappointed. But if you are looking to spend a little amount of money for some higher-than-average quality vacation photos, this is a great choice.
Downloaded the app onto my Android tablet, and the nightmare began. It took me 3 hours to finally get the camera and tablet connected. The problem was I could not get to the camera screen view as shown in the instruction manual, or in the "easy" set up guide in the app. I don't know if anyone else had this problem, but I am going to give you the five steps that were left out. 1. Close the app on the tablet. 2. Turn on camera 3. Hit the little phone icon next to the menu button. 4. Wait till phone connects to WiFi and follow directions on camera screen 5. Open the app on the tablet. Ta Da!
As for the camera, easy to use and takes good photos. I recommend buying a 67 mm adapter, 67 mm uv filter, and that size lens cap to protect the lens front dirt and scratches.
No points off the camera because of connectivity set up issues. It was surprisingly difficult to do as compared to the set up for my wifi Nikon dslr.
Having said that, it's time I began the actual review. This camera is not for everyone. Obviously not; many people don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a camera in the first place. However, it does fill a role in the photographic community, and it does so very effectively.
This camera seems to be designed for someone who wants high-quality photos, without the hassle and expense of professional cameras. It is, at its core, a very nice "point-and-shoot" camera; it's extremely lightweight, it has a quality sensor, and the 50x zoom comes in handy under all sorts of circumstances. It's something of a niche role, but the camera fits it very well.
However, it does have its flaws. For example, it does not have the ability to natively shoot panoramas. It also can't shoot in RAW format, or use many external devices that a high-quality camera could. The menu controls are somewhat obtuse, and I've found the auto focus to be unreliable. These sorts of things are the price you pay, however, for getting such a compact, simple camera.
Note that I said simple - this shouldn't be read as low-quality. The camera does perform all of the basic photographic requirements, and performs them well. If you're new to photography, and just want to get some good photos to share with your friends, this camera will do nicely. However, if you ever become serious about the craft, you will miss the options that this camera lacks.
Top reviews from other countries
I use it to carry with me to events (obstacle races, triathlons) where I dont want to bring my reflex with me for various reason (weight, space)
there is definitely less control than there is on a reflex, but the image quality is much better than the compacts, and the stabilized zoom is really handy (though at max range you better not shake)
subject tracking works quite well if you are stable as well (auto zoom as long as you focus based on captured target)
