The Kreg 1-1/4-Inch #8 Coarse Pocket Hole Screws with Washer-Head, 100 pack, prevents overdriving in pocket bottoms, which is especially critical in composite and plywood work pieces. The self-tapping type 17 auger tip eliminates the need to predrill, and its larger diameter steel shank creates a nearly unbreakable screw. The bronze-colored finish and dry-lubricant coating improves driving torque and rust resistance.

In my experience any Kreg brand of fasteners have always been of a good quality. The threads cut deep with a consistent pattern. The heads have the correct proportion and design to accept tools/tips for installation. The machining is crisp and clean on the edges with no slag or deformities. The count and pitch of the threads has always been correct in my experience with them. In my opinion Kreg fabricates quality fasteners.

While the argument may be made that it is "just a screw", the science behind these Kreg pocket hole screws is pretty sound: Make your project clamp itself for better support. Since the threads only go part way up, the upper part (that you pocket drilled) becomes like the passive jaw of a clamp. The piece you didn't drill, that you screw into, becomes the clamping jaw. Together, they ensure there is no play in your joint and work to prevent premature failure caused by inadequate bonding or movement in the joints. The larger head works to prevent you from being able to break through your upper piece so there is plenty of material on both sides of the screw. They're a bit pricy for how many come in a package, but well worth it considering how easy they make a DIY project yield professional quality results.
