Decent table, manufacturing quality leaves something to be desired
This table seems solid enough once assembled, and I know the kids in our church youth group will enjoy it. However, the product could be much better. Mine arrived with a crack in the playfield, which needless to say, was very disappointing. (see photos)When I started assembly it didn't look too bad. The instructions are pretty straightforward and easy to understand (see photos). Immediately upon starting step 1, I realized why others had complained about the assembly and why it takes so long. It is not that it should be hard to do, but it is because of the poor manufacturing that assembly becomes difficult. The very first step is to attach 8 hinges to the end panel and end goal panel. However, there are no predrilled holes to help you figure out where on earth these hinges are supposed to be placed. And unless you really want to put some muscle in it, you're going to want a cordless drill, rather than the phillips screwdriver they tell you to use, in order to get the job done. After the brackets were in place, it was smooth sailing for a little while. Until it came time to slide the playfield into the grooves on three sides of the table. Again, the manufacturing lets you down. The grooves don't line up correctly, so the playfield doesn't slide right in like it should. Rather, I had to take a hammer and flat head screwdriver and chisel away at the corners where the grooves are supposed to meet until I FINALLY was able to lock it in place. Then all was well until Step 4, installing the top plate. This seemed easy, until I realized how small the space was that I was supposed to reach inside to attach the top plate to the hinges. (see photo) I did not have a drill bit long enough to fit inside the space, and my phillips screwdriver was barely long enough. Still, I did manage to muscle my way through it (again, no pre-drilled holes for these hinges) with my screwdriver, but it took forever to put these 16 screws in. Pre-drilled holes could have made this a lot easier. All in, it took me 3 hours to assemble this beast. And it does look nice when it's done. Once it is assembled you don't see that's it's manufactured pressboard with ill-fitted wood stickers attached, and I'm sure it will get a lot of use and love. However, make sure you have the time and patience to invest in this table before you get started.
