This is the best laptop that I've purchased. It was made for my son who plays a lot of games but I'm seriously thinking of purchasing one for myself and selling my MacBook 15". It's that fast/smooth/nice and at this price, the power is astounding.
For comparison I ran this since by side with the new Dell 7577 gaming latop at the same price level. For starters, this laptop starts with 16gb of ram(vs 8 on the Dell) and an I7 7700HQ vs the I5 counterpart on the Dell. While both are quad core, the processer makes a noticable difference in benchmarks. If that's not enough, this laptop has the full GFX 1060 vs the scaled back Q model in the Dell(about 10% slower). Not only did this Laptop crush the Dell in every benchmark, it did the same for my late 2016 Macbook Pro 15" that retailed for more than 2.5 time the price.
I'll itemize different areas:
CPU/GPU/RAM I7 7700HQ with full GFX1060 16gb of DDR4 Ram (10 of 10) - Can't beat this for the price. Pefect for most users and all but the most fussy gamers.
Display: (7 of 10) The reviews bash this display, but I find it superior to the Dell display and head and shoulders over the new 'premum' laptops at work. It's not as bright as somer others, and not as nice as my Macbook, but it's more than acceptable. Maybe in the darkest games, but It's more than enough for me. It's an IPC panel, and not noticable backlight bleeding like on the Dell. I rate it down because at 60hz you're only getting 60fps in games, but at this price point you can't expect more.
Keyboard: (9 of 10) Much perfer this keyboard to either the Dell or my Macbook. The feel is as close to perfect for my liking. My only complaint is that the backlight doens't appear to be adjustable... like on the Dell and MacBook Pro 15. It just feels right to me.
Sound: Sound is 'OK'. It's the weak point on this laptop. It's clearly better than the Dell, but it has no subwoofer(they had to cut somewhere). Having the speakers fire downward actually helps if the laptop is on a desk as the sound spreads to fill the room, but can be muffled if on on your lap. Still acceptable and not the worst that I've heard. Just a note:Sound not quite as good as the older Dell 7000's with subwoofer or My Macbook 15, which has one of the best sound I've heard on a laptop.
Ports: (7 of 10) It's got all that I need. SD card reader(though I'm not sure of the performance), USB 3, USB2 and HDMI. The Dell wins on this one a it has a Thunderbolt power and I head a faster card reader, but this is not going to influence my laptop purchase. this is accpetbale. (I Rate the newer macbooks at a 1/10 do to only having thunderbolt ports, you have to carry adapters for everything.
Network Card: 9/10 It's a MIMU card, UNLIKE the Dell, I get better speedtest benchmarks across the board with the Helios 300. I would have preferred a Killer car, but this is still a good performing adapter for the price.
Upgradability: .7/10(for a laptop). The Dell scores higher here because the entire back comes off with one screw, which makes upgrading a cleaning easier. However, the only real advantage you get with the dell is being able to clean out dust. the same upgrades are easiliy accessable. Some people say their's didnt come with a cage, well, my did. Dell also has a thunderbolt so you can add an external chassis and upgrade the GPU.. for the cost of doing so, you might as well get a dedicated desktop. Not sure I see the point, this laptop will last for several years.
SSD/Hard Drive: 6/10 256 isn't going to cut it, but at least it's SSD(though not the fastest) The Dell wins where because it came with a smaller(but similar speed) SSD, but a 1tb secondardy disk. TB drives are cheap(under $100) and I happened to have a spare 750gb not being used, so I'm good.
Battery Life: I can't say, but honestly, if you're not plugged in, you're not running full speed, CPU/GPU cuts back(came as Dell). That's fine for most things but if you need ful performance, you want to be plugged in. This is really the same for any laptop. I assume this is adjustable somehwere, but I'm sure battery life would be short. I've heard that this laptop will go about 4-5 hours, but not under intense gameplay. Again, same for any laptop.
Build Quality 8/10 : Metal/PLastic combo. Similar to the Dell. The dell looks more 'professional' but this latop is not so edgy that I wouldn't feel out of place carrying it around as an adult. The top and KB tops are alluminum, the rest is plastic. Everythings seems solid.
Form Factor: It's fine, it's no larger than my work laptop, it's a big heavier becuse it actually has metal top and KB top.
Overall: I've got to give this a 9/10. I like it so much I'm cosidering selling my macbook and buying one of these. Reasons? While I prefer the display and sound on the Macbook, I can't stand the port configuration, the keyboard and the fact I'm stuck with 500gb of storage. I could buy two of these for what I can sell it for. Benchmarks on this laptop beat the cirtually every category. While I love MAC/OS for me... windows 10 and genstures and improved touchpads have closed the gap. Oh the touchpad is great on this one laptop. I'll summarize my review numbers and compare.
Postives: Speed.. CPU/GPU/RAM... overall performance and benchmarks compete with laptops selling for $500-1000 more. Best bang for buck.
Negatives: None that I care about... Small items: KB backlight is not adjustable, no thuderbolt port, dispay limits gameplay to 60fps(which is true for every laptop in this price range. Only 256ssd standard, but easily expandable.
Conlcusion: Heads an shoulders above the Dell 7557 at this price. Double the warrenty. The display is fine. It benchmarks with laptops selling for over $500 more and really beats the competition at this price point. Acer has been around for years, I've used their products for over 20 years now, and they've come a long way. '
Long story short: Best laptop for the price of $1000, can run nearly every game I can think of in high-ultra settings without the worry of overheating; excellent with multitasking and has much memory to do so.
Long story: As I read the reviews, most of what I could say would echo the voices of many other 5 star raters:
- It's great
- Fan does its job well
- Insert a feature already explained in the page
Thus, I will try my best to write a unique review among others about this laptop. This laptop is my very first laptop that I chose for the purpose of gaming and working during college. My initial laptop that I had before this laptop (Acer Aspire E 15) was a noob compared to this beastly computer. So far I am not disappointed at all with anything for this laptop, and unless this wasn't obvious in the first place; this laptop can run any game I can think of! Here are some games I tried just to name a few:
ARK Survival Evolved: A game that my old laptop could barely run, this laptop runs it beautifully in high graphics with no noticeable lag spikes. Run around quickly, fly in a dinosaur, spot something from far range; there wasn't anything I could do that would make this game lag at all. Worried about heat? Checking "PredatorSense", the CPU and GPU would not go anywhere above 200F (~95C) thanks to the dual cooling fans. (The picture below does NOT show the results, but is there to give a sense of what you could see in "PredatorSense")
Rainbow Six Siege: Another game that required high specs, this laptop can run the highest setting "Ultra" and still have no lag nor overheating dangers. There were a few lag spikes, but doing more research, this was due to the automatic Vsync that was activated for the game, and by turning it off, the FPS for this game would average 100-110FPS on "Ultra" without much error.
As a college student addicted to gaming, 3 things stood out for me for this laptop, and were the leading reasons for why I bought this laptop over other laptops in the $1000 range:
1. GeForce GTX 1060-6GB: I'm sure this is also the reason that many people are here debating about this laptop. Trust me, I've looked, and you won't find other laptops at $1000 rocking a GTX 1060 like this laptop, unless you're okay with finding laptops on the $1200 range.
2. I7 Core, 16 GB RAM, VR Ready, and all the extras: This laptop is basically your portable desktop that is capable of running a bunch of other things you have in mind. Need a lot of RAM for programs? Need a fast CPU? You have a VR but can't run it on your noob-ish computer? This laptop can do all of that and more.
3. Easily to upgrade storage: The only downside that I can think of is the space of 256GB. Comparing that to my highest game storage eater "ARK Survival Evolved" with about 50GB (and more because of content updates), that means I can only download 5 huge games before running out of space. Luckily it was super easy to upgrade it with a 2TB SDD; the laptop comes with screws and a handy storage holder for your SDD (or HDD) that you want to upgrade. Super easy, and if you're scared of doing it yourself (or it's your first time), YouTube has all the info you need to make it easy for you.
So what are you waiting for? Buy this laptop, and hopefully this has convinced you enough to buy this laptop! Here are a few last things I will let you know in case you're trying to look for this info:
- Black Friday Deal: I'm one of those people who waited for this laptop to go on sale during Black Friday. I'm not sure if the price will change this time, but during Black Friday this laptop went from $1049.99 to $999.99, which is the price of the laptop as of today (1/9/18). That being said, the big deal-breaker was that their mixed reality headset (third choice) can be purchased at the same price of $999.99 at the time. To be honest, some people are having mixed reviews with the headset, but if you were waiting for a deal on Black Friday, the same pattern could most likely follow. It could change this year if you want to see for yourself!
- Potential upgrade required for BIOS, or incorrect version of GeForce programs: I saw a couple reviews complaining about this, and just like the most helpful review here, I did not have any hiccups or errors regarding the BIOS problem that another reviewer had. This was another anxious thing I was worried about, but now I've come to the conclusion that it could have been a simple manufacture error for that very individual.
- The "lag" myth: Some might complain that this does not run games that well at all, and I could have a potential explanation why. The gaming laptop will work best when the charger is plugged in. I was about to complain and leave a review when I tried to run ARK; it initially couldn't run on medium settings and had a low FPS! Until further research on many reviews, they said that the laptop will work best via plugging in the charger. Either way, I wouldn't want to be worried about my laptop dying mid-game, so it's wise to start charging your laptop should you need to run an intense game.
Hope things go well for your final decision, and leave a "helpful" on this review if this really did help!

Very pleased with my purchase!
