4.0 4.0 out of 5 stars 550 ratings

Growing up, Sabrina Jacobs could only dream her life would be this good. She has a successful career, a famous sexy husband, two children, a house in an affluent Westchester suburb and a shoe collection worthy of a magazine spread.
Too bad it’s all a façade.
It has been almost a year since her husband admitted he had an affair with a younger and bouncier coworker. Follow Sabrina as she tries to rein in her out-of-control life by kicking her husband out on his rear, chucking her career and even firing her too-cute-for-the-job nanny.
But how will she survive life as a single stay-at-home mom in the land of wine and play dates, designer kids’ parties and Botox lunches? Hmm… maybe the hunky young French teacher, who has been flirting shamelessly with Sabrina, is just what she needs to take her mind off her problems. Not if her husband has something to say about it. Will Sabrina be able to forgive and still be true to herself? Find out in Bounce.

Bounce by K.M. Jackson was one of those books that completely took me by surprise. I wasn’t sure what I expected out of the story, the plot summary pretty much sums it up but I will tell you what I was not expecting. Its heart wrenching and inspirational and this story touched me on so many personal levels that it left me dumfounded. It is a genuine real-life portrayal I think every woman should read and Sabrina Jacobs reminded me why I am so proud to be a woman. In all our glory, we truly are the stronger sex and she is no exception! Yes, her resilience is continually tested, but she stays true to herself and even through her toughest moments of trying to figure out who she is in the midst of an identity crisis, she never wavers in her core beliefs and she never cheapens herself. Her emotions are real, raw and honest ranging from depression to anger and written so superbly it is heartfelt. She doesn’t lower herself to any random vengeful acts even though I was personally encouraging her visions to live out Angela Bassett’s role in Waiting to Exhale. That woman became my personal hero when she started a little bonfire with all of her cheating husband’s possessions, but I’m supposed to be above that type of behaviour, right? Someone pass the gasoline…

Sabrina Jacobs is a woman who has her life together. She is happily married (at least on her part) to her college sweetheart, a former NBA player who is a celebrity in his own right with his successful sports talk show. Sabrina is an incredibly intelligent woman who has worked her butt off as a financial analyst in a male dominated company where she is about to be promoted to partner and she has two happy, healthy, beautiful children at home. And in one fell swoop, silicone enhanced Bimbo Barbie brings her world crashing down. I will admit that I give Sean a teensy bit of respect for being man enough to admit to his affair, to her face. But this man, who has been the center of her world, is now enemy number one and she rightfully throws his cheating butt out the door.

“Do these shoes make my guilt look fat?”

Guilt. An emotion that rules many of us. Guilt, because sometimes your career takes precedence over your children. Guilt, because you missed that extracurricular activity you promised you would attend. Guilt, because a nanny has become a pivotal female presence in your children’s lives. Guilt, because you don’t want your marriage to fall apart and your children to grow up as a product of divorce. Guilt, because you cannot accept your husband’s repeated apology and don’t know if you can ever trust him again to put your family back together. And finally, frustration, for being the broken woman you swore you wouldn’t be. What follows is a lot of profound soul searching on Sabrina’s behalf.

Shedding her working mom image, Sabrina must learn to navigate the carpool lane as a Stay At Home Mom and learn to play nice with the social climbing, two-faced, backstabbing financially elite Stepford wives that make up the PTA. Sabrina can close muti-million dollar accounts but she is out of her depth with these women and the chatter of her broken home. Sean is desperate to reclaim his family and is relentless in his pursuit. It’s probably the main reason I was able to like the guy. He doesn’t quite grasp the emotional scars he has caused Sabrina or the continual pain he unknowingly still inflicts, nor does he understand why his apologies aren’t enough to get her past the betrayal. His continual stance on “I have apologized for this, how much longer are you going to hold this against me” made me want to grab him and shake him. If that isn’t enough to juggle, her children’s younger and incredibly good looking French teacher is pursuing her and the thought of dating again makes her nauseous. I cannot tell a lie, I really, really wanted her to hook up with the French hottie but Sabrina is not rash or spiteful in any decision while she tries to get her life sorted. Sabrina hails from a family of resilient women and she has an incredibly close and supportive relationship with her sister Janice who also brings her own dynamic to the story. I loved Sabrina’s humorous internal musings over the unbelievable and over the top competitive and outright catty nature of the women she must now indulge and I cried every time her heart broke just a little more. Sabrina is a strong and independent woman and she just might show a few of those Stepford wives how it’s done.

All Sabrina wants is to restore the happiness she once had with Sean but she eventually comes to realize that the past cannot be recaptured and she will have to find her new happily ever after in the here and now. My own mother raised me to never depend on a man, to always make sure that if I needed to walk away from a relationship, I could take care of myself and not stay because I had no other choice. It seems that Sabrina’s gram had some similar wise advice of her own to pass down…

“Never give more away than you are prepared to lose.”

With half of all couples faced with infidelity, including myself, it's amazing how taboo the subject is. Infidelity hurts. It's the most painful experience I've ever faced. Of course, very few have the courage to come clean with their indiscretions as in this story. In real life, it's usually a horrible detective process filled with lies, hurtful words, deceit and ugliness that compares to nothing else. The author wrote of pain, insecurity and the torn feelings one has in the aftermath well enough to convince me she has also been through it. But given that this was fiction, I would have liked more sizzle between the characters, to feel the raw emotion such betrayal causes and the extreme irrational thoughts and acts it creates between a couple. It was a good read, I felt connected to the characters and enjoyed the story. But with more time and thought it could have been a great story not just a good one.

Bounce was a great novel; perhaps it could have been tightened slightly, but It was a good read. I enjoyed the characters and the story and the many different relationships within the novel a great deal.

The author has a great ability for story telling and character development. There are so many dynamics covered in the novel and the author does a great job at describing them so the reader is truly able to feel them and experience them.

The only issue I really had with the book was the grammatical issues: multiple wording, wrong words used (like spell check changed it and it wasn't proofread afterward), and the wrong use of me and I. (You got it right once, Ms. Jackson! Hint: take out the other person out of the sentence and and make the sentence grammatically correct and then add in the other person. For example "I would have gone to the store" would be Paul and I. On the other hand, "iIt was just me" would have been "It was just Paul and me" not Paul and I. That is one if the most basic rules of grammar...)

With a good proofread and changing those few grammatical issues, the book would read much more smoothly. I found I had to take breaks from it not because I wanted to, but because I had to due to the continual and chronic wording and grammatical issues.

I have to start by saying that I am not a fan of fiction written in the first-person narrative, as it tends to give a very one-sided story. With that in mind, I hesitated to buy this book, but after reading the description and downloading a sample, I was intrigued. Now I can say for certain that this story needed to be told from the heroine's point of view.

This is the classic tale of a seemingly solid marriage being tested and torn apart by an infidelity, but after delving into it you realize it's not the same old story. There's the suburban setting with the house, kids, soccer moms and all that other good desperate housewives fodder but wait, there is definitely more.

Although I can't exactly relate to her plight, I could feel Sabrina's desperation and vulnerability as if I were reading my own diary at times. I think all women, especially married, go through some of the same roller coaster emotions and find ourselves questioning and comparing in all sorts of situations.

Yes, Sean had done this terrible thing, but my heart went out to him. Though we don't get to hear his thoughts and feelings directly from him, the writer skillfully gave us a glimpse through his words and actions. And let's not even mention the kids. I so badly wanted these beautiful, thoughtful kids to have their family back.

The only criticism I have is the editing. There were some points in which I thought I might have been reading a first draft. It wasn't the worst editing job I've seen and the story was so well told, i found it to be only a minor inconvenience.

This is the first book I've read by this author and it certainly won't be the last. Well done.

I rarely ever do reviews of a book but here goes. I love this book because the author gave the heroine a backbone. For me this book has players that Seem more real life than most books do. I refuse to read anymore books where the heroine is made out to be a spineless twit. No more magic pencils for me. The couple did end up back together but not for a very long time after she made him leave. I very much enjoyed the heroes groveling as well.

This book wasn't BAD, its just that it wasn't that good either. I kept asking myself, 'why am I reading this?' and I'm surprised I finished it, although I confess to paging ahead somewhat, to get back to the central theme of the story. I liked the characters well enough, although, it disturbed me to not really be able to picture them in my mind. I wanted more of a description of these people and what they may have looked like. Thinking more about it, this book was a good shell but needed to be filled in. This family had no pets, no plants, no friendly dinners or friends for that matter. It was kind of like reading about the drudgery of life mixed with a bit of glam.

2.0 out of 5 stars Writing didn't live up to the book's premise...

Was very disappointed in the quality of the writing. This is obviously going to come as a huge surprise to the author, but I'm not a fan of reading about the boring minutiae of a working day. So much to skip.

What was the reason behind the husband's infidelity? There was little to zero background and characters all seemed one-dimensional and plastic. The editing was lacking. Liked neither of the main characters.

I was irritated that what sounded like a great book, really wasn't and it was the author's inability to create a story that lived up to the original premise.

1.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Storyline But...

After several attempts at reading this book I gave up without finishing it.
I couldn't get into it as I didn't understand the motivations of the characters. An unfaithful husband (why?) taken back by his wife (why?). She has a demanding job and has been promised a partnership but she is discontented with it (why?). She juggles a career and children without much help from her husband (why?). I could go on listing things and asking why. My lack of understanding of these people meant that I could not care what happened and so finally I gave up.
