Amazon.com
With its straight spine and seamless design, the Gerber 22-41493 EVO Jr. Knife with Serrated Edge offers extreme usability in an eye-pleasing design. Besides its aesthetic qualities, the EVO Jr. boasts a high-quality carbon stainless steel blade as well as a thumb stud and finger clip for easy one-handed opening.
Innovation In A Compact DesignThe EVO Jr.'s profile reveals a seamless design that begins at the back of the blade and continues along the upper edge of the handle. This gives the knife the look, feel, and power of a dagger and makes it ideal for range of around-the-house and outdoor uses.
Anodized Aluminum Handle for Lighter Weight
To help give the knife a more powerful and aggressive feel--key if you're using it for rugged activities like cutting through brush or weeds--the anodized aluminum handle features seven slanting oval openings. Beyond their organic look, these openings also serve to further reduce the knife's overall weight, making it easier to handle and hold.
Durable High Carbon Stainless Steel Construction
Constructed of high carbon stainless steel coated with titanium nitride for increased corrosion resistance, the EVO Jr.'s blades can handle anything that comes their way, no matter what the conditions. A thumb stud and finger clip ensure easy one-handed operation--great for when you're holding a box ready for cutting in one hand, and the knife in the other. For an extra measure of safety, there's an internal finger guard.
Compact for Portability
The EVO Jr. has an overall length of 6.35 inches with a blade length of 2.75 inches and weighs just 1.8 ounces, so it's easy to toss it in a bag, backpack, or pocket.
About Gerber: A History of Innovation
Savvy. Moxie. Craftsmanship. Attention to detail. These are just a few of the company traits that have contributed to Gerber's emergence as a world leader in outdoor gear. Joseph Gerber started Portland, Oregon's Gerber Advertising back in 1910, and one Christmas, he hired a local knife-maker to craft 25 sets of kitchen cutlery as client gifts. The knives were so popular Mr. Gerber ultimately left his agency to launch Gerber Legendary Blades in 1939.
It makes sense, really. An idea man gets the idea of a lifetime and turns it into a major outdoor brand--one that commands respect among knife lovers and knife makers alike. And now that same high regard is spreading in new directions, in the form of many outstanding products such as tools, personal L.E.D. lighting, and more.
What's in the Box
Gerber 22-41493 EVO Jr. Knife with Serrated Edge in clamshell packaging.
From the Manufacturer
Introducing a clip folder for knife people who prefer the look of a straight spine; the profile reveals a "seamless" design that begins at the back of the blade and continues along the length of the upper edge of the handle. Another aesthetic design touch is the series of seven slanting oval openings in the anodized aluminum handle. The blades are constructed of high carbon stainless steel that is coated with titanium nitride for added corrosion resistance. There's a thumb stud and finger clip for easy one-handed opening. And, there's an integral finger guard for an extra measure of safety. Bottom line? You'd do well to own such a highly evolved knife.

Edit 1/09/24
9 Months later and it's still my EDC. Great knife. it loosened up while opening but in a good way. I can kind of flick it open now. The blade is still tight however and does not wiggle side to side at all which is what I love about Gerber knives. Aluminum handle is kind of a let down. I opened a few botte caps with this and it shreds the alum kinda bad. Blade has only dulled slightly but I use it for everything.
Still my favorite. I have 3 now.
- Fast flip out design
- Pocket clip
- Solid feel and design
- Black anodized
- Slim and serrated design
- Light
- Flip stub acts as a hilt
Cons:
- Paint chips easily
- Thumb stub is small and useless
- Clip is too tight
- Not enough grip
Thoughts:
It definitely need to get loosed up and lubed before use. The pivot requires a 6-point star head to loosen it. Came pretty sharp from the factory. Black anodized for reduced reflection, but the finish is not as rugged as some flashlights (Surefire, fenix). An inexpensive fast operating knife for a fraction of the price of other knives. The way the clip is positioned and the oval grooves on the handle that the clip recesses into gives it a death grip on your pants, which also kills the pant seem and fabric when you pull it out. Pulling the clip away from the body while unholstering it will fix that.
The material is not the best, but for this price, it usually isn't a big deal. Repeated use will have you constantly sharpening. I love the flip finger opening. Once lubed and loosened, it should only require the use of one hand (an index finger) to open. The grip could be worked on. The flip stud does act as a hilt or guard, but the body itself does not have knurling (apart from the lock) or enough friction material.
A similar design to the EVO is the Boker Plus Trance. It has a more secure grip and feels right and factory sharp right out of the box. Other than that, the EVO serves its purpose and I would buy again.
Bottom line:
Recommended. Good buy for cheap!
I am not a knife connoisseur, so I will not be discussing metallurgy or anything technical. However, I can say that this knife has a nice weight to it without being heavy, and the metal handle only reaffirms the sense of quality. The coating on the handle seems to help reduce a loss of grip, and the flipper becomes a nice, prominent guard when the blade is deployed.
The blade itself is reasonably sharp - something one expects from a new knife, though I haven't the experience to compare to more expensive knives (save for my kitchen knives, which are definitely sharper). When opening or closing the knife, the blade seems to give a positive 'snap' into the fully opened or closed position, which is something I appreciate.
The liner lock is fine for me, but a bit too stiff for my son to operate - but then, they all are. Something for him to aspire to.
I will likely be purchasing the larger version for myself to add to my rotation of carry knives.
I carry it all the time when working but inside my pocket not using the clip and it is great for that. It gets light duty opening packages/boxes, envelopes, cutting strapping, cutting twine, etc. I don't use it as a pry bar nor any of my knives as a pry par.
It came arm hair shaving sharp and is easy to keep thay way touching up on my Arkanasa medium stone or with my Lansky Sharp Stick. Yeah I know the steel is not the greatest but it is plenty good enough for what it is and easy to sharpen.
I love the size, weight, and the flipper that makes it easy to open. If it becomes stiff a drop of oil makes it work fine again. Mine looks kind of beat up but still works great.
When not working I am probably carrying my Benchmade Mini Griptilain or Osborne 940 using the pocket clip.
I like the Gerber EVO Jr enough that if I lost it I would buy another. I give it five stars with the price considered.
