Prince Roman (1001 Dark Nights) Kindle Edition
Rules for my new job:
1) Do not have sex with a man in the office (again).
2) Do not break Rule #1
I’m playing it cool, clean, and professional…until I meet Roman Bianchi. He’s not an insecure nerd or an ego-hole like the other kings of Silicon Valley. He’s charming and handsome. He’s fun, funny, and smart.
He’s also in the office across the hall.
Two broken rules waiting to happen.
I can’t lose this job over some guy.
But Roman’s not just some guy. Under that suit and cocky smile, he’s a prince.
**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

About the author

CD Reiss is a Brooklyn native and has the accent to prove it. She earned a master’s degree in cinematic writing from USC, and though she ultimately failed to have one line of dialog put on film, she stayed in Los Angeles out of spite.
Since screenwriting was going nowhere, she switched to novels and has released over two dozen titles since, including two New York Times Bestsellers and a handful of USA Today bestsellers. Her audiobooks have won APA Audie Awards and Earphones Awards.
She resides in Hollywood in a house that’s just big enough for her two children, two cats, her long-suffering husband and her massive ego.

I totally enjoyed listening to King of Code on audio so the promise of a side story from that book made me a little giddy. I do so enjoy these bite sized stories offered in the 1,001 Nights collections. If you haven’t read either King of Code or the 1,001 Nights novella’s, you need to go take a look. There is a plethora of top notch authors that write these and are of the highest standard.
Whilst Taylor Harden makes an appearance in Prince Roman, he is not the focus of the story. No, CD Reiss brings us the assistant and her search for love in all the wrong places. Raven can’t help herself when it comes to messing around with men at work, an occupational hazard as she works in a predominantly man’s world. I love that the author centred this story around women’s employment rights, it seemed to suit the background of Raven Crosby perfectly. When she meets Roman Bianchi, it sends her into a tail spin and how she keeps her cool is perfect.
But, as we all know - you can’t keep a good man down and that’s exactly what Roman Bianchi is. A good man (and a little bit dirty), hungry for Partner position within his company yet not so hungry that he leaves Raven out to dry. Their story unfolds at a quick pace (as it’s a short) and it’s difficult to make these things work. CD Reiss makes every scene count, every sentence matter, every word earns its place in this cleverly crafted novella. I think my favourite scene is their first lunch (I won’t spoil) but it set up the rest of the story for me, a little glint of what was to come and right enough, their relationship snowballed from that point.
I thoroughly enjoyed this offering from an author I hold in high esteem. King of Code was a challenge that she executed with perfection - Prince Roman is a little icing on the cake. Because this book is so short, and I craved more I’d normally down star my rating, but I simply can’t. Prince Roman is sublime and fast paced and yes, not enough for me, but I can’t fault the writing nor the storyline, so I must give it the full star treatment.
Pick up this book, find some more 1,001 Nights novellas, they are a treat in themselves from your favourite authors. Recommended reading, especially if you like this author.
Raven has just started with a new employer, in their HR department, her new position includes the implementation of a new HR management system. It is in the role that she meets Roman, a consultant lawyer, also working on the same system. The company has a strict no fratinisation policy that Raven is responsible for upholding. How do they manage the chemistry that exists between them when they need to ignore it?
Reviewed for Amo's Book Corner.
I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
This story has many facets of trickery. I mean how do you put a man and a woman working side by side with each other, both working on a common goal that involves equal opportunities in the workplace, without lines being blurred.
The lines are definitely crossed in this pairing and this creates one helluva of a ride full of sexual tension, for both characters. Their chemistry is amazingly hot and this read is smart and sexy. I loved every page and the turn of events never once diminished my curiosity.
If you love games, especially games of the cat and mouse kind, then this read is for you.
A Book Lover’s Emporium
I did like the two main characters even though I didn’t connect with them, and the writing style was good, so I will read more of her books.
The whole office romance being taboo thing was interesting and I think Roman was a fun character behind the scenes. I particularly liked the chess scene.
Not a huge amount to say about this one apart from its fast, sexy and an easy read.
Would recommend if you’re already a fan of C.D. Reiss. If you haven’t read any of her other books, I’d suggest reading one of her full length novels and then coming to this one later.

I must state from the outset that I personally feel that C.D. Reiss is an author whose romantic writing often tips into the realm of important literature. I am a serious "fangirl" and enjoy the layers of meaning, wit and world-building on display in all of her works. This short novella in this "1001 Dark Nights" format is but a brief taste of the mastery that this author owns with language, character development, story telling and oh the many ways she can create that lovely tension upon which the reader of romance gobbles up and begs for more. Yes, even in this a short novella.
Reading this story was like eating a one of a kind uniquely crafted rich creamy dessert... deliciously decadent, silky on the tongue, lovely sugar rush and satisfying. No one ever passes up a delicacy such as this. The experience remembered for a very long time.
We first meet our heroine, Raven beginning her new job. She is determined to leave all the past mistakes she made at her previous employments behind. She wants to keep her work life free from any sexual or relationship entanglements. Yet, on her first day, she meets him, Roman Bianchi. He is startlingly beautiful, he dresses like an alpha male in tailor made clothing over a striking figure of a man. He is a smart lawyer with a commanding presence; and then there are those eyes:
"Green. Brown. Gray. Was that called hazel? Or had this man invented something completely new?"-Raven
The reader is immediately drawn into the internal struggle of Raven's fierce sexual attraction and her resolve not to reveal it in any way or act impulsively on it. The attraction is mutual. Of course this new environment of "forbidden by company policy" creates the "must not touch or go there but my body and heart are screaming to go there" conundrum. Roman, apart from his uncontrollable attraction to Raven, also fancies himself having a hidden agenda in trying to get closer to her. Beyond this, the machinations of the top level of both their managements also create yet another layer of complexity.
Of course as delicious romances go...Raven and Roman do touch...do kiss..do all those other lovely things and in ways that the author keeps fresh, hot, hawt, hot, and so exciting. All the while keeping the reader thoroughly engaged. We fall in love with their love or is it simply "lust"?...as they fall. This heady feeling and ultimately the noble intent and actions of our main characters give the reader a thoroughly satisfying treat.
I could end my review here but I noticed that this read created some questions in my mind buried in the narrative and in the discussion of the project our two main characters were endeavoring to complete. These are good questions, relevant questions, questions answered as a society that would strengthen the fabric of our society for decades forward. I detected no particular political agenda hinted at by some reviewers. The first important question is pay equity between the genders. Paying a just and fair wage to all persons means food on the table, rent paid, family security to the woman who is the family bread winner. Endeavoring to accomplish this quantitatively is a fine and good thing.
The second question has really two parts. The first is not allowing any misogynistic bias or harassment against woman in the workplace by judging their intellect or ability solely on gender. This is a difficult one even in the current culture of Silicon Valley. The second part is distinguishing between genuine affection and respect that is inherent in a true attraction between employees from behaviors that can be misconstrued as "quid pr quo" sexual favors i.e. sexual harassment. Just as pay inequity issues leave a company vulnerable to lawsuit, so do patterns of sexual harassment. One solution is to adopt a zero tolerance fraternization policy. Seems like a simple solution but is this realistic? After all, "the heart wants what it wants."
Discovering the questions and your answers along with the answer to this question found by Raven and Roman is part of all the sexy time and "feels" our author lays out in this wonderfully created tale of a 21st Century Prince among men (or really "boys" to be more accurate).
One click to meet him and his beautiful love, Raven.

Now Raven has accepted a position with a highly sought after tech company that will give her what she wants the most. A secure job that she could feasibly stay at for the rest of her career. No more fraternizing with coworkers that ends up with sex in the supply closet. A stable job with benefits and good pay and a long term outlook. That's exactly what she believes she has found until she walks into the conference room on her first day of work and meets Roman Bianchi. A gorgeous lawyer who looks just like sex on legs.
I loved the chemistry and pull between Raven and Roman. Having to work on a project together is proving to be very challenging, and that no fraternization policy she wants so strongly to stick to is quickly proving impossible. With her feelings quickly growing for Roman, will her desire for stability and long term employment outweigh her desire for him?
On the other hand, Roman has been singularly focused on becoming partner in the firm ever since his one serious relationship ended when his girlfriend admitted she didn't like children. Now he is on the cusp of getting that partnership, and finding love with the perfect woman. If it weren't for that sticky no fraternization policy that threatens to destroy everything.
I was engrossed in this story. I needed to find out if these two would give in to their feelings, or if policy would win out. My only complaint is the story ended before I was ready! There was one subplot in the storyline that didn't sit quite right with me, but the story ended before there was a resolution. I am hoping that we will be seeing Raven and Roman in Christine's next book, Prince Charming. There's still so much we need to know about them!

That plan doesn't even make it through Raven's first day on the job when her first assignment puts her in the path of Roman Bianchi, a legal consultant who's all sex and savvy wrapped in a Brioni suit. Sparks fly immediately and temperatures soar as they attempt to put a lid on their growing mutual attraction. But Palo Alto is a small town and their past continually cross until one night Raven comes up with a bright idea - a single night together so they can get each other out of their systems. One and Done.Roman jumps at the chance with the secret hope of it becoming something more. Of course, one night turns into weekend turns into a relationship on the DL.
Despite this being a novella, the main characters are beautifully, fully fleshed out. Roman is a lawyer/gamer/mountaineer who, in his heart of hearts, is a vulnerable white knight and Raven's a seemingly brittle career girl who's really soft and pliable and looking for the stability that her chaotic upbringing has taught her to equate with love. Only she's looking in all the wrong places and willing to sacrifice just about everything for it. As a reader you fall hard for this couple quickly. They can't keep their hands off of each other and the sex is salacious and sweet all at once. Even the obligatory quickie in a highly inappropriate place is new and fresh thanks to Ms. Reiss' deft characterization and bright, snappy writing.
Ms. Reiss is firing on all cylinders with Prince Roman. Her prose is sparkling and the emotional tension between her character practically leaps off the page. I find myself wishing that the book was longer because I relish every moment I spend in CD Reiss' California, but, honestly, the book was a perfect length because we fall as fast and hard for Roman and Raven as they do for each other with the extra added bonus of some shockingly brilliant advice for the lovelorn from none other than Taylor Harden. That alone is worth the price of this book. Five stars

I enjoy Ms. Reiss's writing and I loved King of Code. This was a cute novella; Roman and Raven are a great couple. I don't want to spoil it, but the ending didn't make much sense to me with how Marie used Roman. Still, it's a quick read but might have been better as a longer story.
