Product Description
OXO's very versatile V-Blade Mandoline slices fruits and vegetables with ease. Four blades and a simple height adjuster make straight slices, crinkle cuts, French fries and julienne strips in a variety of thicknesses. The blades store on board and are easily removable for cleaning. A textured surface keeps food from sticking to the Mandoline and the food holder securely holds food and protects fingers. The handle and turning knob are soft for comfort and non-slip feet keep the Mandoline secure on the work surface. Fold the feet and lock the Mandoline for compact and safe storage. Hand wash the blades; the Mandoline body and food holder are dishwasher safe.

Customers like the sharpness of the kitchen product. They mention that the blades are wicked sharp and slice almost without effort. It works okay and is better than cutting everything with just a knife, it has different slicing settings and alternate blades that pop in. The “V” shape cuts clean on the trailing edge of the vegetables and the slitting blade seperates perfect little cubes. The main straight blade is getting dull.
"...scores the food in the opposite direction and the slicing blade seperates perfect little cubes from the food. Repeat until the end...." Read more
"...Wow! …went so fast. The “V” shape cuts clean on the trailing edge of the vegetables—there is no debris left behind...." Read more
"...the kitchen with the best of them, but this little gem easily makes uniform slices perfect for a variety of fruits and veggies...." Read more
"...Also, the blades are extremely sharp, so you don't have to force your food across it to get thin or thick cuts...." Read more
Customers like the performance of the kitchen slicer. They say it works well, the blades store away inside the slicer itself, and the hand guard works well. The design is horrible, but they say it's a very helpful appliance and worth the chance to buy.
"...The cubing feature alone is well worth the price...." Read more

"...BUT! BE CAREFUL because the slicer really works beautifully!" Read more
"...one (you go quick with lots of downward pressure on the guard) it worked quite well on my test run of Apple rings for dehydrating...." Read more
Customers have mixed opinions about the ease of assembly of the kitchen product. Some mention that the instructions are extensive but garbled, making it difficult to assemble. Some customers also mention that there are a lot of parts to disassemble, making reassembling difficult. Some say that the product is sturdy, well designed, and relatively easy to use, making quick work of onions and tomatoes. However, some customers say that it is difficult for the elderly and the disabled to use and that cleaning the product can be difficult.
"...The instruction manual is pretty good. Good diagrams with supporting text...." Read more
"...The slicing action is smooth and effortless. The trough is wide enough for large heirloom tomatoes...." Read more

"...She says it has cut down so much time in her food prep. I have a micro plane but it is flat and also is not as safe to use as this...." Read more
Customers like the quality of the kitchen slicer. They say it's well built, sturdy, and not breaking down from pressure. The OXO feels more precisely made than the Borner, and it'll last a long time. The blade is super sharp and shows no sign of wear. Cleaning is super easy, and most of it is dishwasher-safe. It's a very nifty gadget, and very handy for meal prep.
"...Oxo has always provided good, solid kitchen gadgets, and their track record in my kitchen drove me towards this unit when I began the hunt for a..." Read more

Customers are satisfied with the storage space provided by the kitchen tool. They mention that the blades are stored all together, in one piece. The tool is easy to clean and stores folded flat. The removable blades can be stored on the unit.
"...The blade storage is a nice feature but seems pointless...." Read more

Customers are mixed about the thickness of the product. Some mention that they appreciate the multiple settings for thickness of cut, the ability to vary thickness without changing any parts, and the thickness dial is a breeze. However, others say that they are dissatisfied with the limited 4 slicing thicknesses, the frame is flimsy, and that the lock for the slice thickness was defective. They also say that the product does not grip the food very well and does not let them slice that close.

Customers are mixed about the size of the kitchen tool. Some mention that it's a reasonably small size to include with the rest of the tools, while others say that it is awkward and does not fit in the grove. During changeovers, the blades are frequently difficult to fit into their storage locations or that the yams were too tall.
"...All fit nicely within their respective slots / containers, and you can't shake any of the spares loose...." Read more
"...that comes with the mandolin as well is rather awkward as it does not fit in the grove and slides on top with a plunger-like device and 4 skewers..." Read more

Upon unpackaging, this slicer seems a bit daunting. There are (2) extra blades in a seperate case along with a spacer to go with the food holder, and an additional (3) blades are housed in the unit itself along with the (1) installed slicer blade (a total of 6 blades included). All fit nicely within their respective slots / containers, and you can't shake any of the spares loose.
The instruction manual is pretty good. Good diagrams with supporting text. It has a bit of a learning curve (pages titled "How to Cube" require you to reference "How to Change V-Blades" and "How to Change Cubing Blades"). Also, each blade is color coordinated with the thickness know along the side, which matches the manual. This assures that your cubes will always be, well, cubes!
Your first and most basic slicing is simple. Food + food holder + back and forth motion = perfect slices (my first-cut items were a bell pepper and an apple). More complex operations require some reading- unlock, open food track section, open cubing / julienning blade section, remove / install cubing / julienning blade, install slicer blade, close up, unlock. But again, the slices were perfect (my next item was an onion- cubed perfectly within about 10 seconds). The crinkle blade adds some drag (USE THE FOOD HOLDER) but results in beautiful food.
The cubing feature alone is well worth the price. The food first passes over the vertical sawtooth blades and is scored, and then each subsequent pass a 90 degree turn scores the food in the opposite direction and the slicing blade seperates perfect little cubes from the food. Repeat until the end. Chopping an onion like your favorite Food Network star is complex and often leaves a good chunk of food un-choppable. This baby makes little pieces of 90% of the onion. Nice.
Cleaning is fairly simple. A stainless model would be nicer dishwater-safety, but longevity of the product is my goal, so I hand-washed after use. The dishwasher is said to dull blades anyways, so it's better to just take it for a dunk in some warm soapy water. Rince and let air dry on a towel and bam- you're good to go.
A storage container for the whole setup would be nice, but hey - this will probably remain on my counter anyways. I can't imagine a meal that wouldn't benefit from use of the mandoline.
One or two uses of this unit and you'll be an expert. Also, you can chop everything in about 5 minutes and put it all in little bowls mis-en-place style and host your OWN cooking show.
Only negative isn’t very negative, but: the hand held protector-holder gripper-guider is only questionably useful. It’s in the category of, “you can’t slice much with it, but you can’t get hurt trying”. I didn’t use it and did just fine by being careful. BUT! BE CAREFUL because the slicer really works beautifully!
Its first job was to make crinkle cut apple and pear slices for a pie. Made the cutting so much less tedious than manual knifing.
blade changes and cleanup are a literal snap to do.
