Haven't had to sharpen them yet but will prob need to in a month or so. They are pretty good, added a star.

So they say that the holes helps food not stick to the knives....any knives not just these. Ehhhh they do some, but that is not why I purchased them really. I thought it would be cool if it worked. I must say these knives came from the box so very sharp. Please be careful. The box they came in is wood and has a little sharpener built in. I did not need the box as I have magnetic bars to hold my knives but it is very giftable and would make a nice presentation for any one that prepares food. They are not extremely heavy but they do feel nice in the hand, not cheap. I don't know how the sharpening experience will go as I have yet to need to do that. I like these knives and recommend them for all cooks.

I'm not big on the display box though it does make a nice presentation, what interested me were the knives inside. These things are incredibly sharp, well balanced and easy to use. I'd been using the same set of knives that I've had since the early 90's. A great set I'll warrant but after years of use and abuse, dishwasher mishaps and countless sharpenings, they finally refused to take another edge, the handles were beginning to crack and cutting a potato had suddenly become quite dangerous. I didn't want to spend the same kind of money on a new set but I hate cheap stuff too so I did a lot of researching and review reading before I made an online order for something as delicate as knives. At this price point, I really didn't feel like I would be out too much if these weren't good and if they were as good as all the reviews had said, well then, what a bargain!

Well I'll just tell you, these things are a BARGAIN! They fit well in hand, balance perfectly, come out of the box razor sharp, clean up easily and best of all, cuts through potatoes and winter squashes like butter. I love these things. They have easily replaced all other knives in my block. I tossed the display box which did include a small sharpener but I prefer to use a steel, whetstone or rods to sharpen my blades so while a nice thought, not useful to me.

For the price, these are most definitely worth the buy.

I purchsed these 5 years ago and they are still going strong. I handwash them and admit I let them air dry. Rust has NOT been a problem. They stay pretty sharp but would be even better if I sharpened them regularly. You can't go wrong for this price with the durability they have.

This set is gorgeous! The knives are sharp and the presentation looks expensive. The wooden case it comes in has a sharpener screwed into it and its very handy and clever if you plan to store your knives in the case. I am storing my knives in my knife block and am trying to figure out what I can use the wood case for because it would be a waste to throw it away.

These knives are very sharp! The main reason I purchased them is because they are forged from one piece of steel; meaning there isnt the possibility of the handle falling off from the blade which I've experienced with other knife sets in this price range.

I will probably reorder this set and gift them to my other friends who watch cooking shows and aspire to be imaginary master chefs like myself. Highly recommend

Excellent for the price! Comes with a case and a knife sharper. Things to note:

These are Japanese knives so they are quite different from the German knives which is the unofficial standard a lot of people compare with here in the United States.

Japanese knives tend to be a lot more lighter and a bit more sharper due the the blades being thinner. Personally being a shorter person (5'6"), I prefer something that is lighter and sharper for intricate and easy cutting. I also feel the weight is pretty well balanced on these ones.

These need to be cared for. By that, I mean after hand washing these with warm soapy water, you'll need to wipe dry to the point there is no more moisture left. Not really hard to do, maybe an extra 30 seconds to wipe it dry.

Lastly, it comes with a knife sharpener. Now I have owned these for several months and have yet not need to ever use the sharpener but it's always nice to have around when needed. I mean a knife sharpener costs at least $5 so deduct that from the cost and this will probably seem to cost even cheaper.
