To say A Hunger Like No Other is the best adult paranormal romance I have ever read is a bit weighted since I have not read much in this genre. The reason for this is because I had two bad experiences with adult paranormal romance: Dark Lover by J.R. Ward and Sunshine by Robin McKinley. Both failed me miserably, and ever since, I have ignored this genre completely. The first read like soft-core porn and the second was just so boring.

Therefore, when a friend recommended me A Hunger Like No Other, I just brushed her off with one look at the book's cover. I mean, look at it! It screams SOFT-CORE PORN INSIDE. The cheesy summary on the back was no help either. Let me first say that I am not a prude; I do like sex in my books, as long as it is written tastefully. I also love steamy scenes of foreplay. It's just that I get really turned off by books with (1) love at first sight and (2) unnecessary scenes of intercourse in every three chapters. I believe that true love develops over time, not just in a week of knowing each other. Also, if the main characters are constantly having sex, it would seem they are more in lust than in love.

I love an author who can create amazing sexual tension without actual sex happening yet. A Hunger Like No Other is exactly this! The chemistry between Emma and Lachlain was very believable (and hot). You will love reading about them. They have some pretty funny scenes that got me laughing out loud. Plus, A Hunger Like No Other has a great storyline with action / adventure! The characters are all very fleshed-out as well, especially Emma's eccentric Valkyrie family. They are all bad-ass yet hilarious at the same time. I was so sad that the story had to end but am glad there are more books to this series, featuring some of the characters from A Hunger Like No Other as the protagonists!

I also want to mention that Kresley Cole is a brilliant author. She switches between Emma and Lacklain's POV (point of view) very fluidly in third person without giving each protagonist their own chapter. I read a lot of YA (even though I'm 22), and this feat is usually accomplished through first person narrative and separate chapters. In addition, Cole's writing style was simple yet descriptive enough, making it a very fun read and not a burden on the reader. It seems like a lot of adult novels these days try too hard to be sophisticated and end up straining my eyes and brain.

All in all, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND A Hunger Like No Other if you enjoy paranormal romance! It was s hilarious, fun, and sexy ride. However, the publishers should really change the cover to something a little more sophisticated . . . I don't know how many other readers have put off this book because it's a reminisce of bad Harlequin novels.

I am a reader of just about all things paranormal. I prefer urban fantasy and paranormal fiction that just has romantic undertones. Although I read Paranormal Romances and enjoy them, they tend to not be my all-time favorites. (Two authors I have read the most paranormal romance from are Lynsay Sands and Kerrelyn Sparks) Let me say that I have thought about picking up "A Hunger Like No Other" for some time now, but I just wasn't sure about another series that was heavy on the romance. I couldn't have been more than a few chapters in when I realized how addicting the story, and Kresley Cole's writing was. The story's plot revolves around Lachlain, a Lykae (werewolf)king, breaking free of centuries worth of torture at the hands of evil vampires. He literally scents out the fact that his 'mate', whom he has never met, is near. The woman is Emmaline Troy, a half breed of part vampire, and part Valkyrie. Emma is a meek creature who finds herself taken by Lachlain against her will. While he is mean to her at first, she finds him attractive. While Cole introduces the idea of sex, and sexual tension very early on, the actual sex act is a long time coming, and all this did was ensure that reader's can certainly feel the snap and crackle between the two. I have yet to read a romance that jumped off the page like this one. Usually, I get bored with the sex stuff and mostly skim through those pages. That wasn't the case here as I wanted to read and savor each of Cole's passages. The beginning, while gripping, played it very close to being over the top because Lachlain's treatment of Emma felt almost like abuse. Some scenes near the beginning actual made me feel a little uneasy. I was overjoyed when Emma stepped things up a bit, and became more sure of herself and didn't let him walk all over her. Another thing that kept this book from feeling like every other paranormal romance I ever read, was the continual action going on. The story had a bigger picture dealing with a war on the brink between the weres, the vampires (both good and evil) and the Valkyrie. Emma's Valkyrie aunts were a hoot and I would love to read more of them in the future. Cole's fantasy world is unique and unlike any other, and I think it has the potential to be one of the best drawn of these parnormal worlds. Although I had a few gripes with the story, mostly with Lachlain, I have to say the book far exceeded any expectations I may have had and I will certainly be grabbing up the next book in the series.

My husband, a man that doesn't even read his e-mails, started reading A Hunger Like No Other this week. We've been married for 10 years and this whole time he never read a book for fun. I convinced him with one powerful line: "This book has scalding hot romance, bloody violence and fun cursing wrapped in Kresley Cole's brilliant writing. Of course you'll like it."
Now I can't stop smiling around the house.

Kresley Cole is one of my favourite authors of all time. I crave mooooore of her books, and she can’t write them soon enough for me. I really enjoyed Immortals After Dark series, and especially where some vampires were involved. I think my most favourite in the entire series are this book and Lothaire, but for different reasons. I love Lothaire, the Enemy of Old, because he is deliciously evil, snark, cunning, always conspiring, thinking 10 steps ahead of everybody else and so unpredictably crazy. My most favourite vampire villain. And I love the Hunger Like No Other because of my favourite little vampire Emma.

Emma is the opposit of everything I crave in my heroes and heroines. She is absolutely NOT evil. But how ca you not love this little contradiction. She is a half-vampire, half-Valkyrie. He mother was Helen of Troy, the most beautiful woman in the world. And Emma has some resemblance to her but she mainly resembles her unknown vampire father, at least in her colouring. She is trying so hard to fit in with her fierce and strong Valkyrie aunts who are never afraid of anything, and they love their “boneheaded little leech” so much to the point of being overbearing and overprotective. Yet, timid and shy little vampire Emma is afraid of EVERYTHING, including her own shadow, and most of all of other vampires. Her aunts wouldn’t hesitate to kill anything that may be dangerous to Emma and their coven. Emma cannot just imagine killing anything, she cries her cute pink vampire tears when she as much as inadvertently hurts a little moth. Her aunts do not eat anything; they take sustenance from lightning. Their little vampire niece needs to drink blood everyday to survive. The funny thing is (oh, the irony!) that the little vampire is doesn’t like and is scared of the sight of blood. So, she usually just drinks it from a mug, and never from another person. The cute little thing sleeps in her room UNDER her bed because she likes to be as close to the ground as possible and because the bed protects her from the sun.

And Lachlain... This big strong dark and handsome Lykae king, tortured by evil vampires for the last 150 years left to endlessly die and being reborn only to die again in the eternal flame. You would think how possible it is that timid little vampire Emma, who’s never seen another Lykae in her life, let alone a recently tortured and as close to certifiably insane one, can be his mate? Impossible, right? Lachlain would snap her neck before he realizes what she is to him. When you see vampires, kill first, ask questions later. But then how can you not like this little fragile Emma who has this great sense of humour, is a grandchild of Gods, looks accordingly, and craves his touch like nothing else, and calms him?

I loved this book. I think I’ve reread it three times at least. The side characters are wonderful. I absolutely love Nix. I want to be her when I grow up. 🤣❤️ If somebody has some unattached evil vampires or touchy-feely Lykaes lying around, please send them my way. I wouldn’t mind one of my own.

Kresley Cole perfetta.
