Beautiful Sacrifice: A Novel (The Maddox Brothers Book 3) Kindle Edition
The moment Taylor Maddox is seated in Falyn’s section at the Bucksaw, she knows he’s trouble. Taylor is charming, breaks promises, and gorgeous even when covered in filth—making him everything Falyn believes a hotshot firefighter to be. Falyn isn’t interested in becoming another statistic, and for a Maddox boy, a disinterested girl is the ultimate challenge.
Once Falyn learns where Taylor calls home, everything changes. In the end, Maddox persistence is met with Falyn’s talent for leaving, and for the first time, Taylor may be the one to get burned.

Beautiful Sacrifice is about Taylor, one of the twin Maddox brothers, who is a hotshot firefighter. He's got the Maddox looks, bada**ness (yes that's a word when it comes to these boys), sweetness, and heart. You fall for Taylor just as quick as you have the rest of the boys. He's funny and gives back as good as he gets it. He has his past hurt, and seems to hold back a little. However, it took one meeting and one girl to turn him into a "heart on his sleeve" type of guy. He falls and he falls hard. He falls forever, like a Maddox man always does.
"I looked at Taylor. He was a little too sweet, somewhat courteous, and even thoughtful at times, all safely hidden away behind his smart mouth and his tough tattooed exterior."
Falyn Fairchild is a tough woman who has been through something that has left her hard, rigid, even cold to some people. She assumes the worst about men, and Taylor is no different. Her relationship with those she works with is heartwarming. She loves with all her heart, once she opens it up. She has something from her past that she needs to come to grips with in order for her to move on completely.
"It was grief, Falyn. I haven't felt it since I was a kid, but I remember the helpless feeling when you lose someone. No matter how much you love someone, you can't bring them back. No matter how much you scream or drink or beg or pray ... a hole was created when they left. It burns and rots you from the inside out until you stop crying for the pain to stop and start accepting it as the way life will be."
That line broke my heart. It is gut wrenchingly true. We all lose people we love, whether by choice, death, circumstance, etc. and it's the same horrible feeling all the way to your bones. These are the lines that Jamie uses in her books, they are words that will be used for time to come. I will remember that line and I will share many times. I know this because there are lines from all of her books that speak to my soul, and Beautiful Sacrifice was no different. When a Maddox man falls in love, it's forever. He will fight for that love and do whatever he can to make it work.
I'm not sure I'll ever love another series as much as this one. I look forward to every book, yet I almost dread them. I know there will be a time when it's going to be the last of this series and it's going to break my heart. However, we've been given such touching stories for the brothers (so far) and I feel lucky to have read them. If you've read any of Jamie McGuire's books, you know she has true talent, so what are you waiting for. Click that buy button, you won't regret it!
Fa
Falyn is bad ass woman, which has really painful past. But you have to figure out by yourself what it is ;). I admired how she dealt with it. She's really strong and was able to walk away from stuff which could be too important for someone. I admire her for this. Like I said, she's bad ass girl. And even when she's pig headed about some stuff she's not the person which would annoy you. You laugh with her, you cry with her and you fall in love with Taylor Maddox like she did.
Taylor Maddox is hot shot...he's hot (hello he's Maddox!) and he's this handsome, smart guy. He knows what he wants and he fights for it. He saves lifes and well antoher stuff and he wants Falyn. Taylor is pig headed too because where most of the guys would gave up and told themselves and their friends that Falyn is not worth it, he sees beneath her walls and he falls in love with it.
Taylor is fighter like his brothers and he falls in love and loves forever. When you decide to read this book, you won't be disappointed because you learn that sometimes you have to go thru really deep s....tuff to have your happily ever after. Those two are the proof that sometimes you have to sacrifice something and sometimes this sacrifice is the most beautiful thing, which happened in your life.
His self-satisfied smile was contagious. “Yeah, but that was before you spoke.”
Taylor’s smile immediately vanished. “You’re so f’ing mean. It’s disturbing that I like it so much.”
How I love the Maddox brothers!! It was so good to be back! Travis is still my #1 Maddox brother but Taylor definitely filled my Maddox fix and I really enjoyed this book. It was humorous, heart wrenching, angsty and heartwarming. It kept me guessing for most of the first half, once the big reveal happened I was able to put some of the pieces together from what I knew from the other books and guessed most of the other stuff that happened but I still liked seeing it all play out. One thing about Jamie McGuire is that she’s not afraid to go “there”, a lot of authors would shy away from some of the things that happened in this book but she went for it and even though I wasn’t totally thrilled with the turn of events I really liked how she handled it and I loved how it all ended up.
The book is told from Falyn’s point of view, she’s the estranged daughter of the town mayor and an esteemed surgeon. Falyn is a diner waitress living in a tiny loft above the diner, the owners of the diner and other staff have really become her family in the years she’s worked there. It’s hinted that she’s had a rough past and has a secret or two she’s been hiding. One day Taylor and his hot shot crew come into her diner and while she’s outwardly rude to them (after all it’s a common rule amongst the locals that you don’t get involved with a hot shot fire fighter because they are notorious for leaving you high and dry when they leave town) Taylor keeps coming back. She resists him at first, even though she’s attracted to him and his Maddox charms, until she learns something about him that will help her with putting something from her past to rest. So she decides to befriend him to help with her hidden agenda. Of course the more time she spends with him the more she likes him and things go from there. I liked seeing Falyn soften and finally open up to Taylor and I loved how he was there to support her.
‘He was a little too sweet, somewhat courteous, and even thoughtful at times, all safely hidden away behind his smart mouth and his tough tattooed exterior.’
Taylor was a Maddox through and through. Once a Maddox boy sets their sights on something they don’t give up on it, ever! If he was any other guy, I think he would have run for the hills with the way Falyn treated him at first. She was straight up mean to him and even I was like “just forget her!” but he saw something in her that spoke to him and he wasn’t going to take no for an answer. He’s very quick witted and gave as good as he got back to Falyn, their back and forth banter was hilarious. I loved his “promises” or “non-promises” as it were, so cute. I liked how they became friends first and then ultimately something more (and loved Taylor seeking advice from Travis on this topic). I was very mad at him at one point for something that happens even though I knew it was coming, but I did appreciate his groveling. I’m not sure how I would have reacted if I were Falyn, but I thought that everything that happened was true to their characters which is why I was ok with what happened. And like I said I really liked how everything ended up. Life isn’t perfect, it’s often messy, and this book really showcased that.
As with the other books in this series, we have a whole host of amazing secondary characters. Of course we get to see all of the other Maddox boys which is always a treat. We finally get to see Tyler in this book for more than just a few moments and some stuff for his book is teased at but the way Falyn first meets Tyler was epic. Probably one of my top favorite moments from this book! At first I didn’t realize what had happened but then I was like “ooooooh!” and went back to re-read that part again. So funny! I also loved the whole diner crew, Phaedra, Chuck, Kirby, Gunnar, Don and Taylor’s crew Dalton & Zeke. All of these guys really round out this story and I loved all of them.
Another thing I love about these books (other than the obvious fact that they all contain Maddox brothers!) is how they all take place over the same or similar timelines so we get to see how they all intersect and connect. Everything comes together seamlessly and some things that were seemingly random in earlier books suddenly have a purpose, which was the case here as something from Trenton’s book suddenly becomes relevant for this book. If you read Thomas’ book you got to see Taylor and something that he did which we get to see fully play out in this one. And this book crosses the timeline of Abby and Travis’ vow renewal so we get to see that from another view as well as a key scene from Thomas’ book play out. And from what we see of Tyler in this book, it looks like his book will take a similar path. It’s a really great way of revisiting all of our past favorite characters, it allows us to see new scenes during this time as well as feel nostalgic about some of our past favorite scenes from the other books.
I know some people were unhappy with Taylor’s actions at a certain point, but while I wasn’t happy with it, I didn’t hate it. I thought it was realistic and showed him as a flawed character. I think he worked towards redemption and definitely learned from his mistakes. And the fact that Fayln didn’t give him an easy out made it ok for me in the end. Like I said earlier, Travis is still my #1, but I really enjoyed reading about Taylor and I thought this was a great addition to the Maddox brother series! Looking forward to Tyler!
“Quit trying to push me away, Falyn. I’m not leaving, I’m going to stay here until I’m on fire.”
“Stop,” I said simply. “You need to stop.”
His expression softened. “I can’t. I’ve never needed anyone until I met you.”
