This TV is awesome when you have a PS4 pro or Xbox One (X) like me, and are going from no 4K and no HDR to this TV with those features. No lag, HDR is awesome, colors and brightness make games more immersive. The smart capabilities of this TV are great for streaming 4k content (Amazon and YouTube). If you have an Xbox One X, I recommend this TV over most in the range. This is definitely a great buy for what you get.
LIKES:
1: The specs - obviously it's a great TV. I won't go into much detail about the specs because you can find that info anywhere
2: The stand - I have a small-ish TV wooden desk/stand that I'm using, and most TV's have the stand on the far end of the TV. This was one of the very few with a center stand. It works great with virtually any size of desk or stand you're using. I didn't have to worry about measuring. That, and I would be afraid of someone/something knocking one of the stand legs off of my current stand if I got one with 4 legs.
3: Ease of use - it's a fairly simple system to use once you get used to it. This depends on what TV you're coming from
4: Plenty of inputs/outputs
5: Side-mounted inputs/outputs. If you're mounting this TV, this will be helpful. If you want your TV close to the wall....this will be helpful.
4: Compatibility with Xbox One X's amazing specs and HDR
5: Powers on quickly
6: Isn't laggy and is very responsive
7: Shipping - This puppy was packaged beautifully. One thing I hate about TV's these days is how cumbersome it is to physically set them up. The stand is put together in a GENIUS manner, making setup time about 5 minutes. Everything securely locks into place and gives the owner confidence. It came extremely well-packaged and protected, with multiple layers of packaging materials. Nothing could damage this thing in transit.
8: The cords can be routed through the stand legs, hiding them if you desire. Very neat.
DISLIKES:
1: I don't care for the remote; it's basic though and does the job - just lacks features
2: The sound quality is par/sub-par. I want to get a soundbar now.
3: The audio variants (i.e. voice vs theater presets) are interesting and helpful if you don't have a soundbar, but you can't change them when streaming content so you can hear the differences real time. It takes a second to change then you have to play whatever it was you're streaming to hear the changes. I don't understand why Sony didn't have them update it real-time to hear the changes. A small annoyance when first setting it up.
Now comes the important description of my experience. Having done my research, I saw that rtings.com rates this TV as the best mid range TV. Visually comparing it to the top of the line LG OLEDs, the best high end TVs of rtings.com, I only saw some mild disadvantages in watching very dark backgrounds and certainly not justifying the significant price difference. To my eyes, viewing this TV from a wide angel actually offered a better experience than that of the OLEDs. Other than the LG OLEDs and higher end Sony XBR65X930/940 series, no other TV came visually close. So at that point, I concluded this TV offers the best bank for my buck. However, the main concern that I had about purchasing this TV was some of the horrifying reviews related to the smart features of the Android TV and the amount of time people had spent without success troubleshooting their issues. I then looked for an alternative in order to use this smart TV as a "dumb TV" and let it merely offer amazing picture quality. I ordered a Roku Streaming Stick Plus UHD at a Black Friday price and connected it to the TV after pairing the TV with a Black Friday priced SONY AVR Model STR-DH770 feeding my existing 7 speaker surround system. In addition to Roku, I also connected my Dish Hopper 2 thru HDMI and my OTA thru coax jack to the TV. Once I got everything working hassle free, I decided to run some streaming test comparisons between the Roku and the Android TV itself. To make a long story short, I found the streaming quality and the lag of my Roku Stick Plus way better than those of the TV. After conducting the tests, I disconnected the TV from the Internet and removed all Internet settings to turn the TV into a dumb box again. Since then I have not connected the TV to the Internet, have solely relied on Roku for streaming to this TV, and have avoided all the troubles of Android TV.
Here I am about 45 days later and have nothing to say except my total satisfaction with the video quality and the audio quality (well the audio quality credit goes to the SONY AVR and surround speakers but I have to say the TV speakers do an okay job if need be). I have NOT once experienced a problem with the TV since containing it in the sandbox of "simply being an amazing TV". Another very high mark that I give this TV is the improved HDMI integration compared to my old set. I am happy to report that the use of high speed HDMI Ethernet cables along with the paired TV/AVR have allowed me to eliminate all remotes except the Roku and Dish remote. The TV and AVR remote are not even in use on a daily basis and the only effort that has gone to this is to program my Dish remote and Roku remote with the TV code. Now, every time the Dish remote SAT button or Roku remote Home button are pressed, the TV and AVR automatically turn on and tune to the associated HDMI input. Once I press TV off button on any remote, both the TV and AVR turn off. The volume buttons on either remote control both TV and AVR volumes at the same time but the TV speakers automatically mute as soon as AVR comes on. The operation was not even remotely as simple with my old Sony HDTV/AVR set.
To conclude, I spent some time planning how I wanted to use my home entertainment system but knowing I only make a change once every few long years, it was time well spent!

The delivery to my home was done through a special carrier called Ceva. They did a fantastic job scheduling with me and delivering the item according to the schedule. The delivery wasn't just curbside, and the agent actually lugged the set up to my apartment which was great. They even offered to take it right to where it would be stationed but I declined as it wasn't necessary. Excellent service there.
I have to say I was skeptical about ordering something this high dollar from Amazon, and having it shipped from the distribution centre hundreds of kilometers away. But Amazon made things easy and I will definitely order TVs and other high value items from them in the future if the deal is right.
Pros:
- It's reasonably light-weight. I was able to pick it up and carry it around (carefully) by myself, but 2 people are recommended of course.
- A nice thin bezel so the screen is really the star.
- Picture quality is gorgeous and you really get what you pay for. The HDR and local dimming are stunning. This screen really comes alive.
- LOTS of configurable options for video and audio, which really adds value to this unit.
- Looks great on the stand, or mounted on a wall.
Cons:
- Be aware that only 2 of the 4 HDMI ports support the extended HDMI features (HDR, 4:4:4 etc.) but this won't be an issue for most people.
- I'm not thrilled with the huge AC power brick (it's massive!), but the up-side is that the TV is slimmer and lighter than if it had an internal power supply.
- You can use it as a computer screen, but I would have loved it if they reduced the overall input latency (it's ~34ms with MotionFlow smoothing off which isn't bad but not great for gaming or use as an external display on a computer). However it's still very usable and only a minor quibble.
- Really wish they added a DisplayPort input.
Overall: 4.5/5 (but rounded up to 5 for Amazon)
Picture looks great out of the box, though I have yet to tinker with custom controls I can imagine that minor tweaks will really bring it over the top.
I surprisingly find the smart tv features useful (I especially enjoy the YouTube app since you can stream 4k content, some series on Netflix also broadcast in 4k).
Sound on the tv is a bit lacking though any cheap soundbar should solve that issue (I currently have a $100 RCA soundbar).
Remote needs a bit of getting used to, though I don't use it that much except for apps.
Installation is pretty seemless too, just need to read the instruction to assemble to stand supports, though it's not that difficult.
Overall, the price point was good, shipping was a bit delayed since I ordered on Black Friday though it came well packaged. Very satisfied and would DEFINITELY recommend to anyone looking at getting a price friendly 4k tv.
