I think that alot of people who have seen this have a problem with the characters and their development. As we know, there are and have been a variety of stories for the batman comics and they don't all truly follow the same storyline. I steady there are multiple stories told by multiple DIFFERENT people with equally great love for comic writing.
Honestly I thought this movie was gonna be a bust but they really merged the Batman animated series nostalgia and forward modern day thinking, on women especially. It also has alot of inside jokes that followers of the trade say and comment about events that occur and concept of characters as well as what people like and don't like about Batman and DC. This film is a beautiful token to the DC world. 😍🤑
It kind of gives me Batman from Justice League vibes, saving the world instead of saving the city this time.
I think that this film is sort of reflection on the audience from modern day times. We laugh at things that batman does and his known personality for being a depressed father of all the Robins' and batgirl and nightwing. We love the way Harley Quinn is in her own world, says what she wants with no filter. We lowkey admired her love for the Joker and devotion to Ivy, as we've seen in comics and a bit in the series. We have seen her morals waver in the series also.
This stuff happens in comics where BATMAN is based off of so don't blame the makers for your lack of knowledge.
I truly enjoyed this because it isn't cookie cutter, when Harley gets hit she gets hit and doesn't cry about it. I think it strengthens her character that we all know about, she was a villain who used to harm people and wouldn't take no for an answer or else you get cut or maimed or kicked, etc..
SPOILER ALERT: When she shed tears at the end in front of Ivy, okay... if you get mad at that then seriously what is wrong with you? Were you not slightly moved by when she cried in front of batman to let her go with them? That was so adorable and cute! Now take off the mask... but that's just me, I really like girls and I wouldn't be able to resist.
But seriously, Ivy is her friend and we can't forget about the very famous moment in the comic between Harley and Ivy, hello LGBTQ. They have a friendly bond regardless of which story, they deeply care for each other. All the times they would go out , sing, have fun, eat junk food, make love *cough cough*, steal, dodge batman and friends, or plan something diabolical. Those are special times.*joke* Times have changed and villains/criminals are no longer black and white, this film followed that modern thinking. After all what is art and storytelling for anyway?
Also if anyone could resist Harley crying in front of Batman then how could you when she took her mask off?!
She was like a pound sweetness at that moment, I just can't 😭😍
Harley is such a badass character, no one can really hate her unless they are hipsters and stick with non mainstream characters and comics (?) The "original " way? I don't know.....
And dammit I think it was about time Nightwing got laid in animated storyline.😭😅
This movie isn't meant to be taken so seriously to change the whole course of Batman in the DC Universe. It's meant for fun from popular demand because Quinn has always been a lovable character.
Reading a lot of reviews one could get the idea this was the worst movie ever. Lets be blunt, this isn't an Oscar winner. It's not a deep thinker, edge of the seat masterpiece that'll have you holding your breath in suspense. In short, it ain't perfect.
What it is is a fun, sometimes campy, sometimes naughty, doesn't take it self too seriously romp that blends much of the Animated series with some nods to the 60's series, and a few other nods to other shows. There's a Star Trek reference that was good for a chuckle, and many other nods.
Some complain "Harley's over sexualized.". Ok, this isn't Injustice 2 Harley. This isn't Arkham Harley. That's actually 1 of the jokes which anyone whose seen the teaser will get, the nod to all the Harley variants there are.
My take. This is a Harley who has moved on, who wants out, gets dragged back in, and wants it to be on her terms. There are nods to the deeper aspects of the character. The broken gal seeking redemption and approval.
The plot is a bit loose. It's very 'comic booky' in some jumps, and 'fill in the gap' moments. That coulda been tighter, and some of the humor is crude sure.
Take it for what it is, laugh at the fart jokes and don't take it too seriously. It sure doesn't.
P.S. the digital code is expired.
1. I am a marvel fan. DC is always too serious and over dramatic (except for Wonder Woman movie! Loved it!) for me. But that’s the crux of this #1 comment. I prefer marvel to DC... I LIKED this movie! It’s got adult humor, slapstick, twists, plot character building for Harley, and I hope Harley comes back for another movie soon cause they wrote her perfectly in this! :) she is quirky, sarcastic, fleshed out with some typical woman-ism’s of getting pissed at guys re-iterating things over and over. Oh! And her final end-of-the world weapon she uses at the end? Oh my god! I laughed so hard because it’s her character! She’s kinda crazy, always has been so it works.
2. It’s a Harley Quinn movie. Period. Batman is in it as is Nightwing but if you keep in mind what the writers seemed to be going for, the comical moments will catch you off guard and you will enjoy this film for what it is and not the typical, “doom, gloom, whoa is me!, because I’m Batman!!” movies that are sometimes good and sometimes awful.
