I will admit, I was biased before buying the book a few weeks ago. I am a fan of Melissa Littles and The Police Life Wife facebook page. I was one of the kids raised in a police family-father, uncles, and the extended family that was the officers and their families at the time. So, when I married an LEO I figured I was a pro and knew the routine. Been there, done that (missing birthday parties, Christmas on a different day, standing strong against critics) but life is different when you are the one left at home to carry the load. When your back-up, support, partner, friend, etc is an LEO there are no guarantees or promises always kept. Trying to be a supportive, loving wife can seem hard on those days you are left to explain to teachers, families and friends and most importantly your children why he is absent....again. This short book makes you laugh and cry, but reminds us we are not alone.

Easy read and very personable. The stories will remind you think twice and always remember the stress that your LEO encounters every day. I appreciated how this book helped me to understand how much he deals with, and it was a wakeup call for me to keep things in perspective. Don't let the little things from his job interfere with your relationship. My husband is almost 30 years in, and I wish that I would have read this book earlier on in our marriage. I hope that I can meet the author someday and thank her for her work.

This book was recommended by a police officer wife and I was NOT disappointed. After I started reading it I didn't put it down till I completed it. The same day I started I finished reading it. This is now one of my favorite books. It made me realize how the police officers are taken for granted and how they and their families sacrifice so much. I now have a new perspective and respect for police officers and their families especially their spouses. My mother started to read it and so did my little brother for H.S. his H.S. teacher had to approve his choice of book but after he showed it to her she too was interested about the book. This book will hit you hard I highly recommended it to ALL. This book is one I will read over and over again I just wish it was available for kindle. Thank you to all our boys and women in blue.

Mel hits the nail on the head with this one. Details the agony and the ecstasy of being a LEO family. A quick read with valid points, I read it in a little over an hour, at times with tears streaming down my cheeks. For those who believe being a cop is all about the power - you need to read this. For those who believe it's all fun and games and you get to "go fast," you need to read this. There is so much that goes on behind the badge that affects the families of our LEOs.

The people of this nation need to stand up in brotherhood with their officers. Who else are you going to call when you need help? Why is it ok to be derisive and divisive all other times? These folks are on our front lines here at home; and it's a dangerous (and becoming moreso every day) gritty job. It takes someone special to sacrifice their time, their family, and too often these days, their lives. Mel brings this home.

Very well worth the read. I could relate to a lot of the stories. Warning, one chapter you will be thinking I can relate to this and the next you will be in tears. Would recommend this book to anyone in a relationship with a LEO.

Melissa writes with eloquence the things that need to be said to and heard by everyone, LEOs, LEOWs, and everyone they serve and protect. This lady is a warrior for officer safety and a veritable fountain of inspiration to those who love our LEOs, whether married to one or in awe of one. Her integrity is unquestionable, her energy never-ending. I'm not sure how she has time to do everything she does, when all of us have the same amount of time in a day. She lives her purpose and that comes through in this book. She is a hero in her own right!

As a former LEO and dispatcher and now a "police wife", this had me laughing, crying all the while wishing I read this a lot earlier so many thoughts, points I struggled with being a police wife. but i have now been able to let go and let god and let my husband be the amazing cop he is because as much as i need him, the community needs him more. As he patrols the streets of our beloved city hunting the evil, I support him 100% and do not question missed dinners, dates, etc. This is his calling and I will not stand in his way.....All I can do is pray to God to embrace him and all our men and women in blue and keep them safe.

I retired ten years ago after a thirty-year career in law enforcement and found this book quite interesting, stressing the psychological impact that occurs to those married to law enforcement officers. The book is recommended for those married to police officers. I would highly recommend this book to anyone on active police duty too, as it just might open up some officer's minds as to what is really going on, especially at home. Highly recommend this book.
