The story begins 3 years after Carrie's dad, who worked at the University, was convicted of using the university to make meth and dealing it out of the bar he and a friend own. He was sent to an out of state prison and Carrie followed him there to be close to him. Mark has some responsibility for him ending up there. Carrie's father was framed for being a drug dealer and Mark is the police officer that arrests him. In all fairness to Mark, we learn later about how involved the frame up for Carrie's dad really is.
Carrie is offered a job at the very same university where her dad worked right after he dies in prison (okay, murdered). She doesn't realize until after she arrives that she will be working for the new Dean - the man she believes is really the drug dealer. She has an ulterior motive - she needs to clear her father's name and discover what really happened.
She reconnects with her best friend Amy that she has only texted and talked on the phone with since she left town. (BTW - she left town and didn't tell anyone except a handful of people she left a message for, but not Mark.) They see a news item on TV about what appears to be a serial killer abducting women who look just like Amy. And you guessed it - Amy does get abducted.
Through many twists and turns, it turns out that the person abducting the women is also the drug dealer. Carrie stumbles into the very heart of it all and nearly loses her own life while attempting to save Amy.
Of course there is a Happily Ever After and there are many closures by the end of the story.
All in all - I enjoyed the story. There were plenty of clues and I did figure most of it out with a few exceptions, but I would have enjoyed it more if we had Mark's POV in several areas.
I feel the same way about this book as I did about the first one. I'm not a fan of plot driven stories because they are too implausible. Just one example: Carrie is in a horrible predicament, where she and Allie are struggling for their lives. Allie has been texting outside help all along to plan their next move. She leaves and gives Carrie her phone. Bad guys arrive. No buzzing of phone. The second they leave...bzzzz.
With plot driven stories, there is a feeling that the author is just making things up as she writes. I don't enjoy that feeling as a reader, so I won't be reading anything more by Ms. Raine.

So the first book return is more of getting to know the characters and there back stories love and loss of a father in jail and dying for something he didn't do and lossing a love of a ma you love but been betrayed by him. But things aren't as what they seem and you get the feeling that there is more going on.
REVENGE
There wasn't a whole lot of revenge in this one but it's building up to it I didn't get what was going on with the kidnapping of women and what it had to do with everything but the more you read it dose I don't know how on earth Meli keeps from getting confused writing these books she gives enough to keep you holding on. And then the friend gets kidnapped no one knows anything but she has a dream about a place she was trapped as a child by accident and so she goes for old times sake and then we see a person who we never even imagine been one of the bad guys take center stage and that is where we enter book 3
REUNION
It starts where we left it in the basement that no one knows is there under the coffee house that used to be her father's bar. She's found the friend that had been kidnapped minus an arm and it's a little creepy cos the guy is trying to recreate his wife in these missing women. We find a friend in someone we thought wasn't and everything begins to make sense. Such great books heading to the False world right now.

1. I liked how the book began, with Carrie stuck on the side of the road and who else to rescue her but her ex, the one she hasn't seen in 3 years who arrested her father? Wow... She's come back to town after the death of her father for a job, one which she hopes will help her find clues about her her father was set up. It all takes place in the span of one week, and is quite suspenseful to the last page...

2. Amy has been kidnapped now and other girls with similar features are turning up dead. Carrie had thought that there was a possible drug operation that had set up her dad, but it turns out to be worse than that. This part also takes place in one week, and Carrie is well on her way to not investigating what happened, but rather be set up. The only detail that seemed off for me was how I had the feeling that Mark had not been completely honest about everything before she spent the night with him; this part seemed a bit unrealistic...
3. This part starts off with Carrie finally finding out where Amy has been kept hidden, and it's a lot closer to home that probably anyone ever considered... I had originally thought that M. might be involved, who who knew he would do that? This last part finishes the story & answers a lot of questions in an exciting way...
