Bob's Red Mill starches and thickeners

Tapioca Flour

Tapioca Flour is one of our most versatile gluten free flours. This starchy, slightly sweet flour is a staple in gluten free baking and a fantastic thickening agent in soups, sauces and pie fillings.

It’s a paleo diet favorite as well as one of the main ingredients for pao de queijo, or Brazilian cheese bread. Use with other alternative flours like coconut flour, cassava flour, potato starch and arrowroot starch with xanthan gum for best results.

Sunflower Cracker Recipe

Sunflower Cracker recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Premium Shelled Sunflower Seeds (140g)
  • 1/2 cup Tapioca Flour (60g)
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • Olive Oil
  • Assorted Seeds and Spices for topping (chia seeds, sesame seeds, sea salt, black pepper, oregano)

Instructions:

  • Preheat oven to 325°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a food processor, combine sunflower seeds, tapioca flour, salt and baking powder.
  • With the processor running, stream in the water until a dough forms.
  • Remove the dough, set on a piece of parchment paper and let rest for 5 minutes.

  • Between two pieces of parchment paper, roll the dough to about 2 – 3 mm thickness. Cut the dough into 4x8 cm rectangles.
  • Place the crackers on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about ½-inch space between crackers. Brush the tops of the crackers with olive oil and sprinkle with seeds and spices.
  • Bake until the edges are lightly browned, about 20 minutes, rotating the baking sheet half way through the baking time. Let cool completely before serving.

Product Description

Bob's Red Mill Tapioca Flour is also known as tapioca starch. Extracted from the root of the cassava plant, this grain-free, paleo-friendly flour is a gluten free pantry staple great for baking and cooking. Use it to thicken sauces, pie fillings, soups, and stews or combine it with other gluten free flours for gluten free baked goods with a light and airy texture. Tapioca Flour is also the main ingredient of the traditional Brazilian cheese roll called pao de queijo. Like all of our gluten free-labeled products, this product is processed in a dedicated gluten free facility and R5-ELISA tested to confirm its gluten free status.

Perfect for making vegan cheese.
5 Stars
Perfect for making vegan cheese.
My family and I all eat a healthy plant based diet, and throughout the years I have learned a lot of cool ways to make vegan cheeses. A few of the recipes I came across called for using Tapioca flour in them. After (unsuccessfully) searching high and low for it, locally, I was happy to find it on here. They say that adding the Tapioca flour (to your cheese) will make it a lot more stretchy and meltable. You'll get a fairly good sized package of the Tapioca flour. The amount called for in my recipe wasn't all that much, so I forsee this lasting me quite a long time. This, for me, helps keeps the cost inexpensive and worth purchasing. Tapioca flour is a gluten free product, so you could also use this as a regular flour alternative for baking; however, I haven't tried that yet. It was easy to work with and I'm happy to have found it. It seems to be of good quality and is from a brand I know and trust.
