Incredible, edible vegan egg!

Incredible, edible vegan egg!
Wow! I tried this shortly after it first came out while I was at Thanksgiving with two decidedly hostile omnivores. My grandparents, the afore mentioned hostiles, let me cook when I am there because my grandmother has trouble standing for long periods of time, but they are highly suspicious of vegan substitute products. I almost always hear something along the lines of “Well, I can tell it isn’t cheese. It wouldn’t fool me.” Most of you will know what I am talking about. So, fool that I am, I decided that I would test these out at their place. My mom, a vegan as well, was arriving for breakfast and I wanted to make her an omelet. My grandmother had just fixed a plate of “real omelets” in her words, and sat there watching me reconstitute the powder and reading the instructions with a look of great suspicion. I didn’t much care for the sulphorous smell when I was whisking the mixture together, but all hesitation vanished when I poured the mixture in the pan. I have only been vegan for about a year and a half, so I still have a strong memory of making scrambled eggs. It was almost exactly the same. I was shocked. After cooking for a few moments, I added some mushrooms, green onions, nutritional yeast (of course), and salt and pepper. I had made enough to try some myself, and oh my goodness. This stuff is incredible!! The taste isn’t 100% identical in my opinion, but it is as close as it can possibly. The texture is also slightly different, but that isn’t any big deal to me. It was so yummy that my doubting, substitute-bashing grandmother ended up eating an entire serving. When my mum got there with my omni, but not hostile, brother and sister I ended up making another pan for them they liked the way mum’s tasted so well.Pros:• The taste is awesome!• It is very portable and easy enough to reconstitute if you have a whisk. I don’t think I would want to attempt it just using a fork.• Well priced• It is easy to remove from the pan, yay!• Did I mention it was yummy?• It is an excellent egg substitute for baking, the best I have used so far.Cons/Precautions• As it clearly states on the package, it takes longer to cook than scramble eggs. This isn’t so much a con as something that should be anticipated. I was a little bit concerned when my brain was telling me that the mixture shouldn’t be so runny, but I just had to be patient.• The mixture, in scrambled egg form, needs to be served almost immediately. The texture gets increasingly more rubbery as the “eggs” cools. It isn’t bad, but not nearly as delicious as it when it is hot.• What I have experienced is that it is best to add additional ingredients once the mixture has cooked a bit in the skillet. I tried adding Daiya cheese and nutritional yeast to the reconstituted mixture before I put it in the skillet and it didn’t turn out as well as I would have thought.• The quiche recipe provided is not that impressive. Skip it. I have only made a quiche with this product once, but I surprisingly still prefer my tofu-based quiche. This could be due to the less than marvelous recipe, but I don’t think so. I will experiment further and update this bit if I need to in the future.• I don’t like the strong smell when I am reconstituting the mixture, but I am particularly sensitive to smells, so it might just be me.• Finally, the packaging. This gripe comes from the fact that I was trained as a graphic designer with a slight obsession with package design. I love, and understand, why they decided to go with egg carton look, but it is essentially useless, as far as practicality goes, and needlessly wasteful. Also, I wish that there were a way to reseal the bag that the mixture comes in. It is very hard to measure the product accurately and keep the little package from spilling. I recommend placing the mixture in a jar and taping the instructions to the front of the jar. It makes life much easier.All-in-all this is a great product and I am actually going to order some more right now so I can make some vegan Okonoimiyaki! Yum!

Pros:
• The taste is awesome!
• It is very portable and easy enough to reconstitute if you have a whisk. I don’t think I would want to attempt it just using a fork.
• Well priced
• It is easy to remove from the pan, yay!
• Did I mention it was yummy?
• It is an excellent egg substitute for baking, the best I have used so far.

Cons/Precautions
• As it clearly states on the package, it takes longer to cook than scramble eggs. This isn’t so much a con as something that should be anticipated. I was a little bit concerned when my brain was telling me that the mixture shouldn’t be so runny, but I just had to be patient.

• Finally, the packaging. This gripe comes from the fact that I was trained as a graphic designer with a slight obsession with package design. 4.0 out of 5 stars Decent scrambled eggs!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 9, 2018
Felt very weird to fry something from a powder and water, but despite wanting to take it off the heat way way way before it was done (it goes through several different forms that look like you should take them off before approaching the consistency in photo), I persevered and was pleasantly surprised with the results!
I’m not sure if I’ll order it again as I don’t do that much baking and it’s still only “a bit” like scrambled eggs, but I liked it and suspect I’ll finish the packet!

The consistency is good, the colour is a little too yellow, and the taste is a nearly there but not quite.
