Are second chances worth it?

D. Kelly has done it again this book gives you Holly & Declan's POV's filling in the two year gap, the present and the future and the book is brilliant as always. It has great friendships, witty sense of humours, secrets, jealousy, sadness, heartbreak, lust, passion, faith, love.

They thought their love would last forever, until it didn't... Now 2 years later he wants her back. But is it too late...

Holly has kept a secret for two years its the main reason of why they split up, but their life could have been so much easier if she had just been honest.

Declan has regretted the day he let Holly go he made the biggest mistake of his life, covering his pain with being a player. But he's prepared to do anything to win his girl back.

When the truth comes out will they get their HEA?
Will Declan's extracurricular bedroom activities be too much for Holly to forget?
Will Holly's secret be too much for Declan to handle?

I usually love 2nd chance love stories, but I didn't really like Declan but Holly seemed nice, but the reason for their break up was weak and I felt that Declan jumped way to quick into his manwhore ways, even though it wasn't the main part of their story but you get that idea. I LOVED Sage and Baxter we all need friends like them, I would love to read more about them in individual books. Definately a lighter read than JUST AN ILLUSION A SIDE & B SIDE those books are powerful reading, deeply emotionally and very different from this story, I still need the courage to read book 3, I have also read BREAKING KATE a different story again but I really liked that as well, again not the male character as much. For me to find an author who can keep me engaged in their books and keep me wanting to read more no matter what the story line is hard to find but D Kelly does that for me.

A heart warming fun read

This is an unusual 'romance' book in that we didn't actually get any of the romance or falling in love part, other than in 'flashbacks' from the past. I quite liked this way of catching up on the past, as they weren't too long and moved on fairly rapidly. I did, however, totally buy into and believe in their love it shone in their words and actions throughout most of the book, and what an enjoyable book it is.

I'm going to start with what didn't work so well for me. I just found the whole reason for their split, and what happened in the following week, to be very disappointing. Dec blew the whole 'overheard' conversation out of proportion. OK he was drunk but when he'd sobered up did he at no point felt like speaking to the love at his life? And after a week he had moved on?

Another reviewer did point out that not only were they young and foolish but humans do make silly decisions, and this is why I didn't drop any stars for the book.

I would have like to have felt/seen/heard Holly softening towards Dec over at least a few weeks/months as her decision to date Dec again felt rushed. Her sudden forgiveness of him made her seem weak, although she did carry a lot of guilt. I would also have liked more scenes of them in the present, forgiving each other and moving on.

It now sounds like the book wasn't good, which couldn't be further from the truth. The banter between the four friends was amazing, with Bax and Sage being almost as important in the story as Dec and Holly were. We see 'DecnHolls' support each other, and their friends, through tough life events. The whole story is told with such warmth, humour and love that it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. There is some angst and negative emotion thrown into the mix to balance the humour, but thankfully not enough to make you ugly cry. Why thankfully? Well because to me this felt very much a second chance rom-com so it didn't need it.

As I've come to expect from D. Kelly the book is well written, with an easy to read, flowing style and a good pace to the story. The characters are all believable and rounded, as is the plot. The book kept me engaged from start to finish and I really enjoyed it.

Friends, secrets and second chances. Declan and Holly have been best friends since they were young so they knew each other and grew to love each other vowing there would not be anyone or anything that could ever come between them. The only thing was that secrets can destroy some of the strongest relationships, even theirs. Who has the secret that they will not divulge to the other and will separation ever resolve what their real issue really was?

I didn't really enjoy this read. The H and h were immature twits. She fell pregnant and lost the baby without telling him and he makes silly assumptions after overhearing a conversation between the h and her best friend, dumps her and sleeps with a ton of women.

A light, endearing HEA of best friends/high school sweethearts, who break up over a miscommunication, compounded by extenuating circumstances. As usual, D Kelly has written with a sense of humour and plenty of passion. Dec and Holly work through their issues, finding their love has evolved, becoming even stronger as they mature and recognise the value of their relationship. The Illusion Series remains a firm favourite but all D Kelly books are worth a read.

I immediately felt like I knew these characters. Declan and Holly felt like old friends that I’d watched break up, long for each other while they lived in pain for years, and then wanted so desperately to clear the air and finally mend their broken relationship and hearts.

I loved the way the author told Declan and Holly’s story. Not only do we get the dual perspectives, but she expertly wove the past and present together to help us fall in love with these two as a couple both in the beginning and through their new start. And who can resist a friends to lovers trope intertwined with a second chance romance? Definitely not me!

This story was sweet and heartfelt. I equally adored Declan and Holly and appreciated how their story was delivered. There's a tiny bit of angst but not enough to make me roll my eyes. The only negative was the reason behind their breakup. I know why and understood the reason, but I struggled a little with the fact that it took Holly so long to come clean with her secret. I won't say more, because I don't want to spoil it for you.

Oh how I loved Baxter and Sage!!! These two gave this book so much laughter and lightness. And the banter the four of them had with each other was epic. It was awesome to witness their friendships and support of one another. I especially loved how fiercely Declan had Baxter’s back. And I really hope we get more stories out of this crew.

I was so happy to read this story after "EP", which had me in tears almost to the end.
This was refreshing and it was nice to see the struggles love can put you thru.
The mistakes people make and how they struggle to right them again, never giving up.
This couple was sad, a riot at times and beautiful to follow. Loved every minute of reading.
Therefore 5 stars and a well deserved review.

This was an emotional love story that alternates between the past and present to weave together the story of childhood friends to lovers, Declan and Holly. This stand alone second chance romance by D. Kelly had me both laughing and crying at times. I couldn't read the pages fast enough to discover what went wrong between this seemingly perfect pair.

I'm really torn about our hero, Declan. On the one hand, he is incredibly sweet, loving, and thoughtful. On the other, however, he is quick tempered and selfish. It's no secret that the manwhore hero is one of my least favorite. I really wanted so badly to love Declan, but his behavior was difficult for me to look completely beyond. It contrasted so dramatically with the image that was painted of him in the past. Everything leading up to the break-up pointed to an understanding, patient, and caring boyfriend, that would do anything for Holly. I understand that people change (I mean, the book is called The Evolution of Us), but I still can't understand how he could claim to only love and want to win Holly back and yet act the way he did while they were apart. The misunderstanding and secrets that caused the fateful break-up also confused me at how things spiraled so completely out of control so quickly. I was very invested in these characters though at that point and couldn't help but want them to find their way back to each other.

The secondary characters were awesome and I really enjoyed the comic relief and voice of reason that both Sage and Bax provided. They are the BFF's we all hope to have - loyal, supportive, honest, and have your back through thick and thin. I especially hope that we see Bax again and find out more about "he who shall not be named". Overall, an entertaining second chance love story that will give you all the feels!

I absolutely adored "The Evolution of Us" by D. Kelly, a romance novel. The characters are wonderful and have so much depth that it became easy for me to get invested in this book. The story is about a girl named named Holly and a guy named Declan who have been best friends since they were old enough to start high school. They were next door neighbors who quickly started to develop romantic feelings for one another, and started going on double dates with their other two best friends, Sage and Baxter. When the book begins though Holly and Declan are no longer a couple, and they are now 25 years old. It's been two years since their break-up and Declan desperately wants to get back together with Holly, but Holly is just too hurt to trust Declan. She is still very attracted to him but she would never admit that to Declan. Sage and Baxter are now stuck in the middle, Sage taking Holly's side and Baxter taking Declan's. Will Holly and Declan ever find a way to get past the hurt and secrets, and get back into each other's arms?

D. Kelly has written such a unique story. It is written with jumps from present to past then back to present, and told in either Holly's or Declan's point of view. The story had me happy one minute, hot and bothered the next, crying the next, laughing the next, and then doing it all over again; it was amazing! I love sexy romances and this is one of the best that I've read in a long time! I highly recommend this book!
